Cleanliness at this hotel was first class. The staff could not have been nicer or tried harder. Brilliant roof terrace with sunbathing and jacuzzis - and a fenced off nude sunbathing area if required, but I didn't try it. The outdoor area around the pool is great too. The hotel has a 'no hogging sunbeds' policy too, which sort of typifies the niceness of the ethos of the place. Wifi in the lounge area. Not ideal connection speed but typical of Spain, it's ok. The food is very plentiful. Some of it is absolutely lovely (particularly the starters). I wasn't so mad in the main courses but there is a central buffet area or the chef cooks individual dishes, as per the menu, not ad hoc. There was plenty of selection for all courses, though the 'vegetarian' section left something to be desired - it consisted of about 3 vegetables. The room was very comfortable. Not huge but big enough with lots of wardrobe space. Nice bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. I enjoyed my stay. I read beforehand that rooms overlooking the street could be noisy but we had a room overlooking the pool and had no issue with noise, though the rooms are not well soundproofed - you could hear vague sounds from other rooms but not intrusively so. The hotel is not particularly well-sited, being almost on the edge of town but it's only about a 15 minute walk to the beach, and there's also an interesting 'train' which runs past the door. I loved Tossa De Mar itself. It was lovely, historic with a lovely beach and clean sea. Very enjoyable stay.

Although the resort was very quiet as it was late October, the weather was wonderful and our stay at the Golden Bahia was well worth it. The staff were efficient, pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and well resourced with fridge, tea coffee making facilities. We found the overall facilities at the hotel were excellent with kids club, nightly entertainment and indoor pool with spa. Daily activities were also advertised although we never tried them as too busy sight-seeing, shopping and sun bathing! The food was plentiful, varied and delicious and suited our various tastes. We are a family of three and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will hopefully return again soon.

Room Tip: Rooms in 70's are near bar which can be noisy.

This was our 4 th visit to this hotel , having had 3 wonderful relaxing stays over the last few years we decided to return with my wife's mum in tow for an autumn break .
Wow , what a difference a few years can make .
Positives :
Room was spacious , clean , tea and coffee facilities overlooking pool .
Hotel ground are lovely although tired looking in places .
Great location , beautiful town .
Reception staff helpful .

Negatives :
Food , really sorry to say , and may be a personal thing ( although many other guests said the same ) standard of food choice and quality was really poor , cheap meat , generally undercooked , salad tired looking , bread stale or at least very hard , cooked options weird ( pigs trotters , blood red fish soup and other strange combinations )
Prawns were excellent , but really struggled to throw a meal together , breakfast however was great every day . Also no regard given for no shorts rule , more than 15 men one night without long trousers on , disappointing !!
No air con in room and ridiculously hot , especially in bathroom with a heated mirror which makes you bake ,reception said was just my problem , no fans available to hire .bathrooms not very clean at all especially around tap areas , needs attention .
Entertainment , either put on relevant productions or do nothing at all , magic show was ok , however gaucho , Polynesian , and oriental night , didn't make sense .
Again a personal thing but way too many out of control children , parents what are you like !!
Overall of hotel was average , before this trip I would have left it 5 stars no problem and was really excited about returning , but I'm afraid we won't return again as very let down by golden hotels .
Food letting this place down badly .ideal if staying self catering and eating in town .
One pointer to pr

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in October.
Check in was speedy (you have to pay government but wasn't a lot).

Our room, 114, was big and spacious with 4 single beds. We hadn't requested this, we requested a double room, but I guess this must be a family room. There were room with double beds as we saw them. The bathroom was large with all amenities. The room had tea & coffee, fridge, TV and a large balcony over looking the lovely pool area.

The hotels are really nicely set out with one large free form pool with built in jacuzzis and a pool that is raised in its own area for length swimming. Only problem was the water was freezing. Lots of sunbirds available to use. The Indoor pool is gorgeous - lovely and warm water, dark lighting and various water features in the pool. There is also a spa which is €6 per hour. This gets you a jacuzzi and various cold showers and steam rooms. It is OK for something to do a rainy day but I wouldn't visit this again. Towel hire is available for a deposit of €10.
There is a rooftop area with two heated jacuzzis and plenty of sunbeds - this area is adults only. There is also a sectioned off nudist area.

The restaurant is large with a very good selection of food. Lots of freshly cooked show cooking available with meats and fish. Cheese board every night and nice selection of deserts. You definitely cannot go hungry. There are fresh omelettes, pancakes etc cooked at breakfast.

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the supermarket and a further 5 minutes to the beautiful beach, castle and old town.

The evening entertainment is OK for a laugh but it is just the usual holiday hotel entertainment.

There is not a lot to fault for this hotel, only that the outdoor pools could be heated!

Short flight to Gerona, and a reasonable 30/40 minute transfer to the hotel. Weather was 50/50 with a few cloudy days. We met some nice people and there was a friendly atmosphere. I found the all inclusive ‘AI’ thing a bit confusing at the start, because people were saying it’s not ‘AI’, but it pretty much is, you just have to pay a supplement for drinks such as Heineken, Red Bull and cocktails and I am glad to say the beer was not watered down and the measures were big! There are menus all over the place to check what you are getting. Slush puppies were included (bonus) and you could stock up on bottles of water. We never ‘snacked’ here and stuck to the three meals a day, bit different to any AI hotel I’d been to before where there might be the option of ‘midnight snacks’ or later breakfasts or not such a big gap between lunch and dinner. Anyway, it wasn’t a problem here and I never felt hungry – the food was very good at the hotel. I think it helped though not being majorly busy, so the quality was up. I don’t think there was a lot of food though, two stands, bread, soup and desserts, it could get crowded if it stays like this in the summer! Waiters were quick to grab you a drink. Not sure that everyone adhered to the trouser policy, I saw several Spanish guests at dinner time at least three times with shorts on.

The pool was never busy, sun beds aplenty. We had a junior suite which was lovely, spacious and the whirlpool bath on the balcony was great to kick back in when coming in at night, or during a rainy afternoon. Not to be too picky but there was often still leftover dirty cups in our room and mess accumulating on the floor, and the fridge was only stocked up once (not sure of this was supposed to be a daily thing, but better than nothing I suppose!) Also bit of wear and tear on sofas in reception, lobby and room and a lot of the sunbeds need replacing. TV was great for the people missing shows back home, personally it is my worst nightmare being on holiday and then X Factor comes on…..!

I’d say 90% of the guests were older, we were the youngest couple there, I liked it this way though, it was a lot more peaceful! Never heard anything from surrounding rooms, the maids were quiet and everyone was polite.

I thought the hotel made a good effort to bring entertainers to the hotel, it’s better than what I have seen before where reps or the animation team sing the same songs for you every evening or try to be funny. However, the entertainment was not brilliant, but this was not helped by the general atmosphere resembling a graveyard some nights. As much as they tried to get it going it wasn’t happening! There were a couple of TVs outside though for sports fans and the piano bar was done up nice with comfortable seating outside. We sat out there a few times with a shisha pipe and drink! Luciano the singer was very popular with guests, more so I’d say than the general entertainment. In the day there seemed to be activities going on but no one ever asked us to join in, didn’t rate these guys! I never spoke to the animation team once, or knew any of them – there is normally one that stands out anywhere on a holiday that would say hello, so surprised with this.

One night we had a trip to all the bars and clubs in Lloret de Mar before they closed down for the season, it was a good night. Lloret seemed very different though, more commercialised and I am glad we stayed in Tossa. Tossa is so lovely and unspoilt, I would like to go back again but maybe self-catering to be able to try all the nice restaurants! The narrow streets, tapas bars and shops are all close by, including the bus station. We went to Barcelona on the bus, it was about 22 euros return, a bargain, the only drawback being you had to pick the time in advance you wanted to come back and we could have done with a couple more hours to have not such a rushed visit.

I never rate holiday reps but I must say Sam and Maddie were a different class. Even at the airport they were helping every guest to check in, lifting their bags onto the scales. They are a credit to Thomson. It was definitely nice to have reps with some experience rather than some late teens just trying to get a few summers in the sun. However I would say in the welcome meeting they didn’t really focus much on the hotel and explaining how things worked, it was more about their trips. Only downfall as we ended up having to ask staff and other guests.

All in all this was a perfect holiday, just what we needed and well priced! Only things I would have changed would be to have a couple more sunnier days but we took a risk in October.

We stayed at the Golden Bahia for a week beginning 21 September. Check-in was quick and efficient and to help speed it along it was suggested guests return to collect passports and to pay the city tax the following day. We found the reception staff pleasant and helpful, especially Simon Lowe who was a great character and full of fun.

Our room was spacious with a large balcony which included a concertina washing airer which pulled out from the wall – very useful. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and comfortable bed. Kettle provided, plus teas/coffees/creamers and topped up daily. There was also a free fridge which could manage 2 x 5 litres of water. Our TV was flat screen and we received BBC1, ITV1 and BBC News. Big bathroom – soap, shampoo, body lotion and conditioner, plus liquid soap dispenser. Good powerful shower over bath and water temperature was constant.

Very big pool area (two pools) with loads of sunbeds and a Jacuzzi. There is also an indoor pool. Staff monitor pool area up to 10.00am to stop sunbeds being reserved. There is also a sun terrace on the roof with three Jacuzzis and split into 2 parts, with one part being screened off for those who wished to sunbathe nude. (Access to the sun terraces is via a special 'room key' which you obtain from reception. But you must return it every day, after use, as the code is changed, and then you get a new key from reception the next time you need one.)

Re complaints from other people about having to queue for food – the brochure makes it clear that it's buffet service and not waiter service (though waiters do serve drinks). There were never any big queues and the chefs are 'show cooking' continuously.

Re queueing for tables – this is a big hotel and while we were there, there were about a 1000 guests. Unless guests are given a set time for meals of course there's going to be queues for tables especially if people come down late. This is why a system of waiters showing guests to tables is implemeted so people aren't wandering around aimlessly. We were usually down for breakfast by 8.30 and had a good choice of tables. In the evening we prefer to eat early and we could sit virtually anywhere. We don't know what people mean 'same old' re food variety. There was a fantastic choice of evening food, including 8plus main dishes, 2plus show cooking dishes, a big variety of salads, 2 choices of soup, 8plus different desserts and various cheeses and biscuits. Also, there was fresh fruit. Wednesday is chocolate fountain night, with strawberries and marshmallows. We both have food issues (nothing to do with the hotel) and we had something different every night.

There is a big supermarket a 5-minute walk away, and 5 litres of water costs 50 cents.

The added bonus to our holiday was the weather. We knew things could be 'iffy' in late September and had come equipped with umbrellas and an assortment of warm clothes. But we awoke to blue skies every day apart from the day we went home. The temperature reached 31 degrees on some days. We just had enought sun cream to last us to the last day; and yes, we'd taken plenty.

Lastly, we were very fortunate in having 2 brilliant reps – Sam and Maddie. We felt safe in the knowledge that if there was a problem we could turn to them for help. Apparently Maddie will be there again next year but Sam is moving on.

We only have one regret – we didn't stay longer. We hope to return.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the hotel.

The airport to hotel travel time is approximately 40 minutes.
We went via Thomson and found the induction talk, the day following our arrival, to be very informative and very well presented. On day two, Sam, one of the two Thomson reps, led a walk around the resort which was very informative. The reps were available daily.

The week prior to our arrival we emailed the hotel to request a pool facing view.
The room we were allocated, number 407, was on the fourth floor and facing the pool area at no extra cost. Our 40 year old son was allocated room 410 which enabled us to maintain easy access to each other. Our room consisted of a double bed (very comfortable) and a large single bed. We found the room to be large enough for our needs and the clothes hanging space to be sufficient. Tea making facilites were provided and included tea bags, coffee and milk, replenished daily. There was a refrigerator provided in which we stored items purchased at the local supermarket, situated 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The safe in our room, for which we paid a very reasonable sum in our opinion, was easy to operate and secure.

The food was plentiful, of very good standard and well presented. Some new items appeared daily. We quickly found a table, no waiting around.

The reception team we found to be very customer focused. Indeed they were the most efficient we have found following 10 years of visits to various resorts abroad. Friendly and approachable.

Lunch time snacks could be obtained in the poolside area and were very good and reasonably priced. A pint of beer was 2.90 euros but a similar measue of coke cost 4 euros. Something we could not make sense of.

Our television in the room provided access to BBC 1 and ITV.

At the pool we were always able to obtain a lilo and parasel. Because of the abundant availabilty of seating it was possible to change seats to move into or out of the sun as we liked.

We did not go to the evening entertainment as it started at 10.30 pm and therefore cannot comment on it. There seemed to be a lot of ourside professionals apprearing most evenings.

We embarked on three tours. The trip to Barcelona was led by Frank, a Spanard who went to Australia when 3 years of age and returned in his late teens. It provided us with an excellent opportunity to see Barcelona. The second was a trip to Monserrat, again led by Frank. This trip via coach / train provided the opportunity to go up the top of the mountain and enjoy the splendid view below. On the return journey down from the mountain via coach also provided the most stupendous views. What Frank did not know about the Costa Brava was not worth knowing about, he was really excellent. His accent was so good so that it sounded as if you were listening to an english person. The third was a trip to a "medieval castle" where a whole chicken and potatoe was provided to each person. Unfortunately the chicken was so over cooked that it was totally died out and hardly edible. The flamenco dancing which followed was of a very high standard.

We would strongly recommend this hotel.
