“Great Holiday”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Ignore the negative reviews of this hotel as we have just arrived back from 2 fabulous weeks at the Golden Bahia and there is very little to criticise.
Firstly the flight both ways from Manchester with Thomson were prompt on a very clean 737-800 with a flight time of less than 2 hours both out and inbound.
Transfer to the hotel takes around 45 minutes along a twisty hilly road but the time goes by very quickly.
Check in was quick and efficient and the rooms were ready on arrival, our only gripe was we had requested a low floor due to us having a 3 year old and the rooms allocated were on the 4th floor however as the rooms were clean we decided not to request a change.
Location could be better but its a short walk into town which itself is lovely with a great selection of shops catering for everyone and some good bars and restaurants too. My only gripe is that some of the shopkeepers were decidedly anti-british with one swearing at my wife and saying 'english go home'. So if you want to avoid this then bypass the Atlantis group of shops and take you business elsewhere like we did. Most however were friendly and helpful as were the traders on the local market which is held on a thursday. Tossa itself is probably the safest place I have ever visited and not once did we see an unsavoury incident.
The hotel itself is very clean and modern however our bed linen was only changed twice in 2 weeks and that was only after complaining to reception.
Food was excellent the first week but average the second. Too much fish and poultry for my liking especially as I have an allergy to both, but it was always hot and the breakfasts were pretty good too with plenty of choice. My biggest gripe however was that some of the staff were too quick to whip your plate from under you even when you hadn't finished eating.
The pool area is really good catering from the very young to the experienced swimmer and our kids loved them. There is however a problem in that the areas surrounding the pools are very slippery and we saw several nasty falls. It should be pretty easy to remedy this and I hope the hotel take this comment on board before someone suffers a serious injury.
Nightime entertainment consisted of a mini disco which was conducted mainly in spanish and french followed by bingo and an act. The quality of the acts was pretty poor except for the 'Soulhunters' who were definately worth a listen.
The bar staff were very friendly and efficient but prices of drinks were expensive, however there is a fridge in your room and a well stocked supermarket nearby.
A mention must go to the Thomson representative Simon, who is very efficient at his job and spends a lot of time at the hotel. Makes a refreshing change from the usually anonymous reps you usually get.
To summarise, a great family hotel that warrants its 4 star rating but if you don't want to be surrounded by children enjoying themselves then Thomson do a good selection of child free hotels as I did hear one old couple complaining to reception about the number of children in the hotel.
Already considering returning next year.

Went for a week holiday 11th August 2012 until 19th! Stayed at golden Bahia in tossa de mar. Great hotel, facilities excellent, food great. A wide selection of foods available. Hotel and rooms are very clean. Thomson reps very friendly and helpfully. Tossa itself is a lovely town. Comes to life at night! Loads of places to eat out. Beach nice but a bit gravelly. A walk up to the old castle ruins is well worth it. The only slight niggle is the hotel is not situated closer to beach. It's only a 15 min walk? But would have been perfect if sea views and closer to beach. Def would return to hotel and area. Matt, Michelle, from Devon uk

I stayed a week, travelling with wife, her daughter and 9 year old granddaughter, on a Thomson package. I will not repeat what others have said - it lives up to the best of the reviews. Excellent service, cleanliness, food, etc. The entertainment is definitely oriented towards young families, and delivered in a large room with too many pillars obstructing the view - but we did not go for the entertainment!

It is great to have both a sports pool and a large play pool which is ideal for everyone from babies to accomplished swimmers. There were always vacant sunbeds to be found, somewhere in the pool area.

The hotel is situated near the entrance to Tossa de Mar, around 20 minutes walk to the sea front. There is a supermarket about 150 metres away, for water, etc. The roads are not too busy, and there are plenty of pedestrian crossings. The town has plenty to see and do - a Roman villa (free entry), the delightful Vila Vella (the walled Old Town at one end of the beach) with the town museum (small charge), and shops that vary from tourist tat to designer labels.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, so long as you realise that it is a family hotel, with loads of children doing what they are supposed to do on holiday - having fun!

Room Tip: It's worth paying extra for a pool view.

Just returned from a week in this hotel with my partner and our teenage daughters.
Firstly this hotel is a good 3* mostly for families with children. It gives the impression that it is something a little different, (4* spa hotel) but it isn't.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
We had 2 double rooms which were small but as we don't spend a lot of time in the room it didn't really matter, there is a fridge, and TV with ITV and BBC1 and world news.
The aircon in the rooms was brilliant and very much needed when we were there as the temp reached 38 degrees!
We stayed at the golden Bahia on a half board basis, the breakfasts were very nice, all the usual, eggs fried, omelettes made fresh while you wait. All very nice.
Dinner was buffet style. Not too bad, we managed ok. If we had been staying any longer we would have eaten out a few times as it becomes samey and boring.

The pool area is lovely, always managed to get sun loungers, the towel police are a brilliant idea, no reserving sunbeds.

Snack bar and drinks are expensive but the food was much better than the restaurant.

The entertainment staff work really hard, always something to do if you want to join in.
The evening entertainment was poor! The usual! Bingo, giving out certificates for shooting etc then the professional entertainment. We preferred to walk into the town and go to one of the many bars.

Tossa itself is beautiful. A good mix of old and new, no high rise buildings. The shopping area is really pretty, winding streets.

Tossa isn't for beach lovers, the beach is shingle, and tough on the feet!

All in all the hotel is a nice family hotel. But if it's peace and quiet you are after then try somewhere else.

Just back from a lovely one week holiday at this hotel.Great amenities, friendly staff, wide selection of good food with plenty of activities going on throughout the day.Every member of staff we encountered was helpful, courteous and professional and genuinely seemed proud to work there.Tossa is a lovely resort with a nice mix of old town and new developments which complement each other well. We found a cracking little bar called Don Juan in a side street just back from the front in the old town. Here we had many a good night with the staff who were friendly and welcoming. All in all we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Look for one overlooking the pool if possible.

Just returned from our first family holiday in Tossa de Mar although my wife and I have stayed in the resort (different hotel) before. The Golden Bahia de Tossa was recommended to us and now we know why! We cannot understand why anyone would find serious fault with this hotel, but then some people like to find fault with anything... If this hotel was on the beach it would be perfect. Location wise it is a ten minute walk to the beach but as you are walking through a delightful town centre to reach the beach it's not a hardship unless you have difficulty in walking.

Everything about our holiday exceeded our expectations. The hotel is spotless and very well run by professional and courteous staff. Some complain that the staff aren't friendly, well if you want them to be falling at your feet in gratitude that you are staying in their hotel then you will be disappointed. We treat people with respect and that is what we got back from all staff. They dealt with our (few) needs politely and efficiently.

As stated in other reviews the hotel rigidly enforced an excellent "no reserving sunbeds" policy. Despite the hotel being full, we never had any problem getting sunbeds after a leisurely breakfast. Clientele was mixed UK, French, Spanish, Dutch and a few Eastern Europeans. Although it is the height of the school holidays, we never saw any bad behaviour or friction between guests, something which sadly we have experienced in the past.

Food was the best we have eaten in a 4/5 star hotel in years. Yes, it's buffet style but apart from a tray of mushrooms, everything we ate was tasty and hot enough. Over a 10 day stay the variety was pretty good too. We had intended to eat out once or twice (and there are many good restaurants in Tossa) but in the end we had dinner at the hotel every evening and never got bored with it. Although large, the restaurant was generally quite calm and relaxed, not noisy and cramped "canteen style" like some hotels.

The entertainment team were great. We don't usually go in for hotel entertainment but during the day got involved in table tennis, mini golf, shooting and archery. There was also a host of other activities for youngsters through to adults, all well organised without being intrusive for those who didn't want to get involved.

My only gripe was that the advertised free wifi didn't work for the three devices which we had between us. Others were experiencing the same problem but some seemed to connect OK.

Overall, a great hotel in a lovely unspoiled Spanish town which deserves to be explored. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! Looking forward to the next time....

Room Tip: Pool view best but even road facing rooms won't cause much disturbance as the road isn't par...

We stayed here in July 2012. The rooms are old-fashioned decorated and particularly small. The swimming pool is okay but it was there every day very very crowdy.
The food was poor and the restaurant was too busy as well.
The staff were attentive and kind.
This is more a 2 or at the highest a 3 star holiday hotel. Not worth the 4 stars and the money!!

Room Tip: there are no good rooms!!!!
