“It was ok but probably won't return”
Reviewed June 26, 2011

We stayed for 2 weeks returning yesterday. Hotel was very clean (in all area's) and our room was basic but comfy although bed was very hard and no mini fridge which would have been useful for water, milk etc. However, the food was excellent with a varied and good choice each day. 'Fizz' at breakfast was a nice touch. Restaurant staff work very hard but it is very much a conveyor belt. No time for lingering over your meal. Wine prices were not bad but the wine was not good. We were unaware that there was a festival across Spain on Thursday so were surprised and annoyed at the loud, live music eminating from the hotel opposite our balcony. Also the fire crackers that had been in use for at least a week, all day and most of the night. Some of them sounded like bombs going off. Not pleasant. Children everywhere were letting them off continuously in the streets. I agree with another writer regarding the hotel reception staff. Surly, rude and unhelpful. Never saw them smile once in 2 weeks. Wendy (Tompson rep) was the opposite! Cheerful, enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable so thank you to her. The hotel is recommended for couples. I would dispute this as our holiday was ruined by screaming, badly behaved children. Parents should be made to be responsible for their children and to check them if they are disturbing others. I would suggest that Tompson re-think what is considered suitable for couples as this hotel certainly isn't.
Barcelona is a good day out but be prepared to be swept along in a noisy bustling city. Gerona is lovely and much quieter. if you want to rent a scooter there is only one place to do this in Tossa and is quite expensive. However, you can rent from 6hrs up to a week which is useful if you are unsure. The roads are deadly, very steep with terrifing bends so be careful and be warned! Weather was glorious so we were lucky. A week is probably long enough though as there are only so many times to wander round Tossa itself. Gets boring after a while. DO NOT go to Llorett De Mar unless you are under 18! It is more terrible than i can describe here. All in all it was good value for money but perhaps somewhere else next time! Last points, there is a main road running down the side of this hotel which is rather noisy and the outside pools are freezing!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room over the pool not facing thed

This is a great hotel, very clean, good, varied food, excellent pool area. The only flaw is that evening bar staff are so busy it took 35 minutes to bring our drinks order during the evening entertainment. We placed a further order and never received that one at all.

Having just returned from this holiday have to say what a wonderfull hotel this is .Every where is very clean hotel staff very friendly. The rooms are very good and clean with a good size bathroom with a bath and shower with a proper glass screen not a silly curtain with the shower being nice and powerfull.Corridors all being carpeted so you do not here people walking up and down all night .As for the restaurant it is wonderfull, how anyone can moan about the food must be mad huge selection of food at all times even at breakfast spoilt for choice .Then lunch and dinner is worse as you have so much choice from a variety of dishes. Then if you have a sweet tooth save plenty of room for desserts- superb !!!!!.Just remember men have to wear long trousers for dinner which is a pain .The swimming pool area is well laid out with plenty of comfy sun beds always available. Then theres the sun terrace up on the sixth floor with good views. With the nudist bit secluded behind fencing .The centre of Tossa being just a ten min walk makes it a great location. With Tossa being a beautifull little town

My wife and i returned 7th June 2011 from Tossa de Mar staying at the Golden Bahia de Tossa. I read the reviews before and on our return and to be honest i didnt think wehad been to the same place.Yes the hotelis big.yes the rooms are small and it was hard for2 people to move around but i would have impossible for 4(we had a pool view on the 5 th floor) ifound the beds were hard. There were no fridges in the rooms and any medication which had to be kept cool had tobe left in the fridge at the reception we were unable to hire one.YES there was plenty of variety of food but i like my cooked food hot not cold and i dont like childern helping them selves at the buffet at any meals. There was no water or wine free at dinner you had to pay for it.Iunderstand it is a Family Hotel but we were on holiday the same as the childeren and it would have been nice to watch the shows in an adult environment in stead of having children running around til lare at night they had a club room to go to with a childerns animation team to look after them. The TV reception was bad on English Channels(not that we watched it much).I agree all staff were great and everywhere was very clean including the bebrooms. Its about 20 minutes walk to the old castle old town. There is quite a climb to the top but you can get there by transport for 4 euros or 3.50 for senior citizens its worth going for the view .The bus station is about 5minutes walk from the hotel. We went to Blanes. Lorret and Gerona on the local buses and last but not least WENDY you said you do not read these reviews but ihope you read this .Thank you for all your help as our Thomsons rep you are the best from room754

Stayed at this hotel with a mixed bag of ages, from parents in their 70's to my nieces in their teens and my kids who are 4 & 8, oh and us in our 40's!

The hotel is in the new town but only a 10 minutes walk (easy walk) into the old town of Tossa de Mar. To be honest I did not book the hotel as it was a treat from my parents and I thought Tossa de Mar would be full of fish and chip shops and loud mouthed Brits, but I was pleasantly surprised. The town itself is lovely with charming streets full of seaside shops, restaurants and little boutiques. The restaurants alonge the sea are lovely and it has a lovely walk up to some ruins and beautiful views of the shoreline.
The sand is more like grit - no sand castle making here! Sun beds were easy to get hold of and only 8euros a day.

OK now on to the hotel. We had booked family suites thought our tour company and we were told that they could not be entered onto their system as that room type was not catered for blah blah blah and were promised that although our confirmation said family room it would a room for 2 adults with a door separating us from the kids (family suite). When we checked in this was not the case and we got a family room = 2 double beds in a room. Fine if that's what you have booked but we had not. The reception desk staff were bland, no facial expression, unhelpful and seemed not to understand us at all, that was until their lovely lady manageress took charge and sorted it out for us. We didn't get what we booked but got two inter-connecting twin rooms. Albeit we had to pay supplement!

To re-cap for those who are travelling with children.

Family room = two double beds in one room. One bathroom. Seating area which has sofa-bed (the one in the room we were first given was very grubby). Tea / coffee making facilities. Hair dryer. Safe.

Twin room = one double bed and one single bed (I suppose this is also called a triple but not sure). Tea / Coffee making. Hair dryer. Safe.

There are no mini-bars in the rooms, but at the end of the corridor there are vending machines with water, coke etc. Again not what I had expected from a 4* hotel.

Finally we had inter-connecting twins on the 2nd floor with balcony which overlooked the pool area. The rooms were not great, the curtain was falling a bit on one side and just a little bit grubby.

The beds are small for 2 adults, especially when my husband is 6ft. Oh and uncomfortable crunchy hard, Sheet and top cover, I was cold so had to use the knobbly blanket. No dressing gowns (maybe its the norm for 4*) and the towels were very thin, the foot towel was more like a flannel. You get a little shampoo/conditioner/lotion on the first day but my neices were told once used no more are allowed to be given?!? There is some device on the wall by the bath which had soap but I thought that was for washing clothes!!!

The safe - you have to pay for a little piece of plastic in order to activate the safe. You do get this deposit returned, but you still pay a small fee per day.

Towels for pool area are 10 euros each - again you have to keep the little slip of paper in order to get refund on last day. No paper no refund!

The food was great at this hotel, the buffet was different every day and always lots of fresh plain salad, plus lots of mixtures and varieties. The griddle changed what it was serving, plus pasta, roasts, chips every day for the kids, cheeses, pastries, ice creams and fresh fruit.

Be warned if they see you putting an apple in your bag they will come up to you and make a point of telling you it is not allowed! Very embarrasing and I think that to take an apple to the pool for the kids is not such a hardship considering the amount of waste that goes from the tables!

Oh and this is the most stupid rule ever... If you buy a drink in the bar before going into dinner you CANNOT take it into the restaurant! They made us stand outside the restaurant and drink our drinks before taking our table. Ridiculous rule and orders carried out by a real jobsworth!!!!

The pool-side restaurant was not great, ok for a one-off but we didn't go back!

We had appauling weather when we were there and on one morning the sun peeked out so we sat down by the pool. The clouds then came so we decided to take a walk to the town. Whilst there the weather took a turn for the worst and it poured down. Unfortunately we had left our magazines, towels, kids soft toy by the pool and no staff member had thought to put an umbrella up over our stuff or move it to the side. It wasn't as if they were rushed off their feel and I know we shouldn't have left it there but small things count!

Kids club was great and the staff really really good. This was the best bit about the hotel especially due to the weather . The outdoor pools are not heated and the water was really really cold, the indoor pool was a great place to take them but then again every other child was there too and it was heaving and hot and noisy!

Would I go back? NO.

I travelled here with my wife and two children and had an excellent time. Short plane ride and a coach journey that was rather scary with the driver hurtling around the high mountain tops. You'll see what I mean! Hotel looked plain on outside but stepping into the foyer was like stepping into a roman villa! Marble everywhere which was lovely and the air was nice and cool compared to the blistering heat outside. Reception staff were very helpful with the luggage and safes though word of advice, keep the deposit receipt! Room was large and clean no locks on the bathroom though! Nice walk in wardrobe and decent view of pool from balcony. Breakfast is great and varied with cava being served, same old food as you would expect at Spanish hotel, through was nice and hot for a change. Dinner was gorgeous with different themed nights, and lovely little pots of ice creams and sorbets. The actual area is great with excellent walks and views. Take a camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities. The weather was unpredictable at times with there being 2 freak thunderstorms once while we were in the pool and another at night. You can see why they have storm drains through town to the sea! One night due to the freak weather the electricity in the hotel went and all the fire doors closed. Pretty amazing lightning though and the weather was generally excellent, one day at 10 in the morning it reached 50 degrees. Overall I would definitely recommend it to everyone though do take suncream and an umbrella.

I really can't say enough good things about this resort hotel. The food selection is varied and good. I can't imagine anyone going hungry. Half board is a good deal. The vast majority of the staff are friendly and helpful. We especially wanted to acknowledge Ia who works at the front desk. She helped us in so many ways and speaks 4 languages fluently. She also arranged a car to the airport for us that was cheaper than a taxi. The entertainment staff is great as well. The rooms are not fancy, but quite nice and clean. Tossa is a great town and I would prefer this hotel to the ones on the beach. We did have new iPhones and iPad that were unable to use the wife, though it seemed fine for older devices. There is a public library (Bibliotech) about 3 short blocks straight down the hill that offers very fast free wifi if you encounter that difficulty. There are great paths for hiking just up the hill beside the sports center and of course along the craggy coastline out of the old town. We can't wait to make our third visit!!
