I booked this hotel on the basis that it sat on the outskirts of Tossa De Mar, near a pine forest, was all inclusive, the facilities looked impressive and on the whole, the reviews were pretty positive. I thought it was worth giving a try.
Bearing in mind that this is a 2 star hotel, my review is as follows:
Rooms - I booked a 1 bedroom apartment.. The room was absolutely fine, the bedroom small with only a dressing table to store anything. The wardrobes were in the living room but again, that was fine. Bathroom perfectly adequate and clean, nice balcony with table and chairs overlooking the whole complex. Two single beds pushed together (not ideal for friends but one of us slept in the living room on the sofa bed which worked pretty well). No air conditioning but we managed without.
Food - Not great but not bad either, you'll find something to eat. I got by on fish and salads but there were meat dishes, chips and food that kiddies enjoy, lots of fruit, lots of desserts, breads etc. Not much change at breakfast, the same foods every day but again, ok. Trays were topped up regularly to ensure the food was always hot but sometimes you had to wait. Drinks were supplied at a tiny bar so you could get a glass of wine or a soft drink with your meal - sometimes had to queue. The restaurant was a good size and did get really busy. Personally I hate buffets, children were messing around with the food, you had to queue at busy times, some people took the last of everything. Eating is an important part of your holiday and I would much rather order my food than go through this pantomime 3 times a day. I'm sure it works for some but not for me and I would love hotels to take note and give guests an option. It would also be great to have somewhere for adults only - It got really noisy with children screaming and running around the place.
Entertainment and Staff - This is where the hotel came into it's own. The entertainment staff were fantastic, working all day to ensure both chidren and adults were included in games and there was usually a show on each night - usually preceeded by a childrens disco which was great for all the kids who really joined in (have to say it started grating after the first few days but great for families). However, the staff were fantastic, always had a smile on their face, worked really hard to make the shows as professional as possible and tried to get everyone involved - good for you and thank you !!
Facilities - Come on owners, this place needs tidying up a bit. The pools need a good clean and tiles replacing, the rooms could do with some new furniture and a lick of paint not to mention a kettle for hot drinks (I took my own after reading reviews but this is a basic facility for an apartment), the outdoor tables could do with replacing, the whole place needs an uplift otherwise I expect that people will stop booking. I'm not the first to mention this so please take note !!!! Families expect a clean and safe environment regardless of star ratings.
Overall this is a great place for families, some go back year after year which is always a good sign. I didn't go with my family and found the hotel to be noisy, meal times chaotic, the pool areas full of children (even though we were back in term time), I couldn't find a quiet place to sit and read. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you aren't taking children along.
There is a shuttle bus to take you into Tossa every hour - it's a nice walk though so we didn't always bother. Again, the bus fills really quickly and some guests had to stand. However, Tossa is worth it, a lovely resort. The beach is lovely, has life guards in place, the sea gets deep very quickly though - only a few feet from the shore and you're up to your neck so be careful with children. Lots of shops and restaurants which specialise in sea food - so we did manage to get a couple of tasty and peaceful meals even though we'd paid for fully inclusive, it was worth every penny. The hotel will provide a picnic box if you're going out for the day and are fully inclusive but the content was quite dissapointing - again, to be given a choice of food would have been nice.
I really wish hotels would give guests more choice but more and more hotels seem to be going for everyone getting the same options whether or not you like buffet food, want a quiet area to eat and talk or want a lively meal with your friends and family - everyone to their own. I'm sure that this works well in terms of economies but I'm also sure that if some hotels gave guests just a little bit more choice when bookings were made, they would fill up just as quickly and guests woulod have a really good holiday - goodness knows we work hard enough to pay for them..
Would I stay here again - No.
