Flåm is completely dominated by tourists, and there is a lot of them! So it would be wise to reserve a table in the restaurant of your choice. We had not done so, but we still got a nice table for two in Flåmstova. It is an attractive restaurant, tastefully decorated and with big windows to the green outside. And right from the start they get a big thick star from me for not terrorizing the guests with annoying music – they had chosen some slightly jazzy pianomusic, and it was not too loud. Bravi!
The menu is not big, but I believe most people will find something to their taste. We chose the vegetarian dish, a risotto with vegetables and mushrooms, and it was really delicious and satisfying in every way. Tap water is served immediately, and you may stay with that if you want. Service was correct and efficient, not directly friendly as our waiter spoke very little, very low and very rapidly – almost murmuring - and not offering a smile before we left (!). On the other hand, we had our peace and were happy with that. And: No horrible music to endure!
As mentioned above, Flåm is drowned in tourists. As a Norwegian, don't expect to speak the country's language! All service is in English. And, btw, I have never seen ice cream cones prized so high as in the bakery shop on Flåmsbrygga!
