“The rooms have a good view”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

The rooms have a good view can see the whole fjord, a kitchen with complete equipment can be used, but it seems that only one staff person, he was very busy. Fortunately, we cook ourselves feel employees in the restaurant one busy.It is also very close from the station.

I can’t speak for the apartments because I didn’t stay here, but I can review the restaurant. I took a three week vacation in Amsterdam, Berlin, Norway and Iceland. I can say, without any doubt, that my experience with the restaurant at the Flam Marina and Apartments was by far the worst. Probably one of the top three worst restaurant experiences ever.

First of all, at the time I went there was only one person working in the restaurant. A young, surly woman. But I’ll grant you that she was overworked given that she was the bus boy, waitress *and* cook. Who can do all that? Well, no one and it showed. The restaurant is basically like a high school cafeteria. No more than that. A number of tables still had dirty plates on them (no one to clean them). We waited and waited for ages to give our order (no wait staff) and when we finally did the woman was beyond rude. We got our meal (eventually) and it was mediocre at best. Bad fish and chips and some kind of reindeer patty that was probably one hundredth of one percent reindeer. Both not good. Add that to slow service (with a snarl) in a dirty eating area and you’ve got a terrible meal. Avoid the Flam Marina and Apartments restaurant at *all* costs. Either splurge for the really expensive places in town or just go to the well stocked market in town and pick up the fixings for a picnic.

I won’t forget my meal at the Flam Marina. I only wish I could.

We stayed for 3 nights as we were doing our own version of "Norway in a nutshell".
The hotel is a short walk from the train and is very private. The hotel is right on the water and views from our lounge room room and balcony were indeed breathtaking. We were in a 2 BR on the top floor which was an advantage. The other main advantage is that it is away from the cruise ship terminal and the rail station when hordes of tourists descend in noisy mass.
If you are staying in an apartment like we were, there is a handy store not far away where you can buy all your provisions.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating and we found the food in the restaurant to be excellent.
Highly recommended.

We were backpacking last October and stumbled onto this unique place...we had intended to stay only one night but ended up staying on for two! The view from our room was breathtaking...right at the Fjord. We had our coffee on the balcony every morning and watched the sunrise...so peaceful, I don't think I have ever been someone so peaceful. We dined below and found the food simply delicious and again the view amazing. Lots of places to explore and hike ....we even hiked over to the next town and back. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. We wish we could have stayed on another day or two. Service was top notch and they were so friendly and helpful. We feel so lucky to have found this little gem!

As with other reviewers on this site, i cant comment enough on the views you get from this hotel, stunning.! Although we had popped in for dinner and were slightly disappointed with the food.
We had orderd the salmon (which was quite good) and a small Non Veg Pizza (which was quite large). The Pizza was close to in-edible, but had to eat it as i was famished. So of the 2 dishes, one good, one bad, so a mediocre rating.
However, do visit it at least to sip a beer in the midst of an amazing view.
Service was good, although the single waitress was struggling but not her fault though, she was doing her best.
Lots of scope for improvement in resource management and the quality of food and can easily be the top restaurant in Flam, with minimum effort.

Had a wonderful lunch of fresh seafood here. Service was good, food was better, the view was the best. The only thing I regret was not staying the night.

*TIP: If you have enough time, try biking to the nearby hilltop village of Ottenes. The view of the fjord is spectacular from the top!

I was given a room with a balcony directly on the Fjord and WOW. What a view. The view would outweigh everything else. In the evening the sunset made the Fjord and the mountains reddish/pinkish in colour and sitting in the balcony infront of such view was like a dream. The staff were extremely helpful as we did not reserve and just showed up after leaving another hotel.
