“Return visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

We stayed here overnight on our way back to the UK via Eurotunnel from South West France. It is a very convenient place with easy access to the tunnel and it is pleasant to be able to go for a walk around the varied shops then along the beach after a long car journey. We have stayed here the previous year for the same reason and since then have tried other places close by, but have found that this one suits us the best. We like being able to walk out of the hotel and choose from various restaurants for dinner. We dinned this time at O'delice which is very close. Our room was once again very good but we had one on the front of the hotel and found it difficult to sleep with the amount of light from the street outside, the birds were singing at 2am in January it was so bright. It was probably worse due to Christmas lights and perhaps they had a back out blind that we did not find, I don't know. The rear of the Hotel is much better and I think the front could be very noisy in high season. We had lovely cocktails in the hotel bar before dinner and found the breakfast to be reasonably good for a French hotel.

We found a much lower price online but when we telephoned the hotel and told them, they matched the price.

Room Tip: Choose one at the rear if you want it dark and quiet

- well situated hotel right in the centre of the Hardelot and within a very short walk to the long sandy beach.
- excellent (young) hotel staff. Very friendly, and helpful.
- great family bedroom
- comfortable and welcoming lounge / bar with an additional 'family' sitting area where you can have a drink and play board games with your small children,
- while there is no restaurant for dinner, there are many restaurants within a short walking distance from the hotel.
- secure parking (at a charge) is available.

Room Tip: Family bedroom for 4 is easily large enough for two parents and two children, with plenty of sitting...

This is a relatively new hotel in this seaside village. Clean, bright, warm and well appointed as well as well located, its modernity helps it to stand out from so many more well-worn competitors. This same modernity may go a little far in the impersonality of the breakfast experience though. A buffet is one thing but when everything including coffee is help-yourself, something is missing at E12 a head. Otherwise the hotel is attractively priced, stylish and recommended. The question of a dead season visit is relevant: what is the best test - to find a place attractive when there are hardly any visitors; or how well it copes with being busy?

Very clean and modern hotel, room was lovely with crisp clean bedding. Staff were excellent and spoke very good english. Restaurants and beach were a very short walk. Breakfast was varied and tasty, Laid out in the large, pleasant conservatory. Will definitely book again.

We stayed on a blustery November night, and thankfully the sat nav took us to the door, since despite its address this hotel is actually in Hardelot-Plage which, like most seaside resorts at this time of year, was like a ghost town, with 2 or 3 eating places open (the hotel does not have a restaurant).

This a modern building in the main route through the town, and some attempt at giving it external character has been made. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by a charming, knowledgeable, multi-lingual and efficient young lady who checked us in with the minimum of delay, which we appreciated after our long day travelling. She proffered information on where to eat, and even had menus for us to look at, which is exceptionally good service. It seems however that being in the off-season does little to persuade the restaurants that more customers might come if they reduced their prices a little from the summer peak.

A smooth and efficient lift took us to our air-conditoned rooms on the third floor - one at the front, and one at the rear with a small balcony - and both were pristine with spacious modern well-lit bathrooms, comfortable king-size beds with immaculate white linen, flat screen TVs with (wait for it!) BBC1 and BBC2, and free wi-fi (ask Reception for a code when you check in if they don't offer it first, which they did with us).

The rooms were very well presented and nicely furnished, with all the usual touches you expect these days, but with the notable exception of tea/coffee making facilities. I know that these are not usual in French hotels, but those that make the effort to provide them will surely reap the rewards, given that so many chambres d'hôtes and small hotels are offering them these days.

We had decided to book breakfast at the hotel, having seen the dearth of open eateries the night before when we ventured out into the stormy night in search of our supper. We had discussed after reading other reviews whether the 12 euro price tag was going to be worth it, but given the lack of alternatives decided to give it a go. Oh dear, what a mistake. Admittedly there was a pod coffee-maker, an egg-boiler for DIY eggs, a toaster for DIY toast, two kettles so you could make tea and hot chocolate (although all the teas were of the rather oddly-flavoured variety much beloved in France - vanilla, peppermint, etc), plus cereals, yoghourts & fruit pureés, fresh fruit salad, fresh fruit, salted and unsalted butter, Nutella, chesse and ham, and so forth. So far, so good you may say - what is the problem?

Well what we found off-putting was the appearance of the three large jars of "home-made" preserves (the tops of which were sticky and smeared with jam), the scrambled eggs which along with the "bacon" looked as if they had been kept hot since September when the last holiday-maker left, and worst of all in my humble opinion was the offering of claggy bake-at-home baguettes and the frozen breakfast pastries - in France? Please no - this is the top of a very slippery slope.

We learnt that the Reception staff on the night-shift are charged with heating things up and putting things out for breakfast, which is probably the root of the problem - surely the local boulangerie could deliver, and a junior chef could be employed for a few hours in the morning to cook eggs and bacon to order? The other observation is that had the restaurant been full, there would have been enormous traffic-jams round the various serving points, so summer visitors should beware.

One final observation: another reviewer mentioned the surprising absence of people using the bar given the value for money prices. I have an explanation: very low designer chairs and settees, which are almost impossible to get out of - heaven help you if you've had a hip replacement!

Without these niggles, this hotel would have a four-star rating from me because of the quality of the staff, the rooms, the fixtures and fittings and the excellent customer service, but because the breakfast let it down so badly, it has lost a star - shame.

Room Tip: Very little traffic when we stayed, so no discernible difference between front and rear rooms in ter...

Fairly new hotel, approx. 50 yards from the beach. Reception staff were very helpful and the rooms were spacious and clean with a modern bathroom. Secure car park at the rear. Continental breakfast was more than ample and very tasty. They have a selection of menus from most of the local restaurants so you can choose beforehand.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the rear so it was very quiet.

We stayed here in for just one night on the way home to the UK. We were happy to pay for secure parking at the back of the hotel for 8 euros, but there seemed to be ample free parking outside. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach, bars and restaurants.

We experienced a very friendly welcome - we were provided with our room key which also operated the gate to the car park. Our room, with a small balcony overlooking the car park, was clean, quiet and comfortable with a good shower over the bath. The room lacked a couple of things which we would have liked - tea/coffee making facilities and a safe, but these are minor niggles. The mini-bar only holds soft drinks and water, but these are complimentary. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but does have a comfortable bar to enjoy a drink before sallying out for dinner or on your return.

The buffet breakfast was excellent, and compared with other hotels which we experienced in France, pretty good value for money. I'd certainly recommend it and would stay there again (and eat at O'Delice again too!)

Room Tip: Rooms quiet at the back, but out of season I wouldn't have thought any of them would be noisy.
