“Quite pricey for offseason in a little town hotel”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

This hotel is definately better choice than Hotel Lakeus (both belonging to same chain of hotels).

The rooms are okayish. Pleasant stay, but for that quiet time of year the pricing felt like a highway robbery. So you can't really say you will be receiving value for your money. Same price you can have a night in Berlin or in Helsinki.

When you don't really have choices this is probably what you are getting in this Town.

We stayed in this hotel with my wife for three nights when attending a convention in Seinäjoki. We chose a superior room, which we found to be of quite fair size. The furniture was slightly old stylish but the bed was good.

The hotel has a restaurant on the ground level. We only had some drinks there and found the service to be very good.

I stayed with my wife 2 nights in this hotel. Hotel Vaakuna was good choise. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable and hotel overall was nice and quiet. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast was standard, but this means no complaints. Parking is nicely located right below the hotel in hotel garage. I can recommend this hotel.

Sokos hotel Vaakuna belongs to S-hotels chain in Finland and is accompanied with another S-hotel Lakeus at Seinäjoki. Vaakuna is a good example of how S-hotels usually are; it's clean and quite newly renovated. Rooms are not very large but they have all the necessary amenities, not luxury but still meets the demands. Breakfast in Vaakuna is as good as normally in S-hotels, though maybe just a tiny bit smaller in selection than some other S-hotels.

The hotel is located in the very centre of Seinäjoki. It is easy to explore the town by walking and one can find quite decent selection of services nearby. If you arrive by car, there are some parking places on the street just opposite the hotel, or you can choose to drive in to a parking garage just next to the main entrance.

What I learned while staying in Vaakuna is that unlike many other S-hotels, the superior rooms do not have a sauna as I thought they would have. So, if you feel like you want to have a room with Sauna in a S-hotel in Seinäjoki, then you might want to choose S-hotel Lakeus just 400m away from Vaakuna. They have superior rooms with sauna as well.

Lovely hotel, very clean and presented. A large sauna on each floor which are spotlessly clean and very relaxing.
Good restaurant within hotel.

This business-like hotel is well located in Seinjoki and I stayed here at the start of February for two nights on a work trip. Finland can have snow on the ground from December to May, so it pays to stay somewhere nice. The hotel was basically in the centre of town and room was of a decent standard: quiet, clean and well appointed. However, there was no obvious WIFI and I think they charged for use of the net (?). Also, this being a Scandinavian chain, there were no in-room tea or coffee making facilities. Breakfast was pretty decent with a wide range of food. They have a nice kind of Tex-Mex pub-type bar downstairs, but though the pints are larger than the UK, so are the prices - though that is a nation-wide situation and I can't blame the hotel. The Sokos Vaakuna in Seinjoki also has two restaurants: the Tex-Mex bar, which sells pricey burger-and-chips type meals, and the breakfast room, which doubles up as a classy diner in the evening. Again the menu is quite expensive, but the food is well prepared and tasty, consisting of local delicacies (I had fried char, which is an excellent tasty game fish, but they also had "fisherman's zander"). All in all I found this a nice hotel. One final word: Finnish hotels don't seem to carry plugs for the sink, so if that bothers you, pack one in your bags. And bring a beeny hat for the sake of your ears - it's damn cold outside in Seinjoki in February!

Room Tip: Ask for upper storeys - though I don't think there are any problems with noise here. It's a...

Sokos hotels are good, basic business hotels through Finland. Usually nothing fancy, but you find all things necessary in most of them. The reception was helpful, my room was clean, everyhtibg worked, free wireless web and plenty of tv channels to do a decent "hotel death" for one night.

The hotel also has saunas and gym available as well as indoor garage right next to hotel. The location is as central as it can be in Seinäjoki.

Also, the hotel has plenty of conference facilities, two restaurants and rather good breakfast room included in the room price. No thrills, but everything worked.

Room Tip: Join the S-program to get the discounts from the hotel (joining the program does not cost you anyhti...
