“Could do better”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

This was our second visit to Sel Gris and we could not remember why we waited so long to go back. We now recall why it is not a favourite. To put my review in perspective, the place was almost full on a Tuesday lunch time so lots of people obviously love it. We had the 4 course lunch menu which is good value. However the service was slow : 3 hours. Visually the food is well presented but is lacking in contrast in taste and texture. The main assets are the chef and kitchen staff who are cheerful and enthusiastic. The front of the house staff are more formal and lack a friendly touch. The web site is in Flemish only which I always think is a shame.

“absolutely top”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

again and again great surprises at each visit to this fabulous restaurant - well located with sea view - sober and super minimal interior with good design in the whole restaurant and throughout tiny details - professional attentive service - a lot of research in the presentation, colors, textures - but most of all the cooking and the mixing of taste and texture is truly outstanding - a unique experience - up to the second michelin star

“What a lovely lunch, wonderful food with joy and wit”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

A second visit confirmed our first impression. A restaurant where fine food is matched with a sense of fun. The lunch we had was complimented by perfect service but the tar was superb food. We had the set lunch menu and at 35 euros for a gourmet, Michelin starred meal was a bargain.

Wondrous delectable amuse bouches wittily served followed by the best bread we have tasted after a presentation of eight different salts from all over, an exotic voyage into the realm of salt tasting.

The star of the meal was a giant ravioli filled with King crab and spinach in a sauce of herbs, butter and lemon. Pure magic. There was also red mullet to start, quail in the middle and a brilliant concoction of blood oranges with other fruits, cakes and meringues to follow.. Then beautiful pettifours and finally a selection of chocolates,

The chef is a genius and we cannot wait to go back.

“Sel Gris or Prix Gris ?”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Excellent service. Culinair the top. Your taste buds will grow by the second, but so is the price !
Although we really enjoyed the food, somehow we were a bit disappointed by the bill.
