“Not very long!”
Review of Belgium Pier

Belgium Pier
Reviewed November 3, 2013

We walked to the end of this funny little pier to see what it had to offer. There were fishermen on the end and a bar/restaurant. The other side had some kind of weather museum attraction. It didn't look very extensive though. The view from the end was nice though.....even though it was filthy weather :0)

This is a great little pier which allows one to think of times gone by when perhaps the coastline didn't contain as many high rise buildings.

A walk along its length pausing for photos or simply just admiring the view is well worth it.

The Blankenberge pier has been around for ages. Fifty years ago, it used to be spectacular. No longer so. The walk up and down the pier had nothing to offer but the run-down shabbiness, and the pavilion at the end has little else to offer (and the coffee is no good). The place does not withstand comparison either with, say, the Brighton pier (which teems with activity) or even the Oostende Estacade, actually a jetty, which offers a nice view on one side and allows one to watch the nautical traffic on the other.

Worth a stroll along it, to watch the ships leaving Zeebrugge. It has the feel of an old UK seaside town pier, although the apartment blocks on the front at Blankenberge are more reminiscent of somewhere like Fuengirola in Spain!

I liked the place anyway, out of season it wasn't too busy, and the pier here and the jetties at the other end of the front give Blankenberge a bit of character which would otherwise be pretty much missing with all the tower blocks.

... why not stroll up Belgium's only pier?
It's a bit disappointing: no 'attractions' such as candy floss or 'gypsy' fortune tellers. It is also concreted, so no seeing the sea beneath your feet.
There are two places for a drink or food at the end - one was closed and the other did not have enough sunshades to sit under.
It is a bit sad and dilapidated.
Pluses - doesn't take much time out of your day and for us, we were in Blankenberge anyway.
