Just wanted to thank Craig and his team for being so helpful and accommodating on Sunday when we held a reception following our grandsons christening. The buffet was lovely and well received by everyone who attended. Michelle was very efficient behind the bar and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you once again. Caroline

We have visited Red Lion many times over the years always enjoy the warm cosy traditional pub,restaurant and hotel and friendly staff that's why we go back. We have stayed for the past few years on New Years Eve with friends but I have to say that although we had a fab time we noticed a drop in standards and a couple of the staff were not as professional as we had previously experienced bit short with us on a couple of occasions when it was not necessary one was the older gentleman behind the bar and one was the dark haired waitress she may have been new because I had not seen her before. The food on New Years Eve pre ordered from set menu was served rushed and was cold I had Beef Bourguignon served with Mash and Red Wine Gravy the mash was cold and lumpy and the beef was a big lump plonked on the top very dry and chewy not at all what I expected. They also managed to mix our bill up as well we ended up with a bottle of wine added to our room when we never even purchased any and the next morning at breakfast we went to the restaurant at 9.15 and never got our breakfast served until 10.45am we were told they were very busy and only had one lady cooking when it did come it was nothing like what we had previously experienced the bacon was streaky and very greasy and the sausages were dry and tasteless we had chipped cup and saucer and the knifes and forks were smudged I feel that they have cut back on quality and it really showed. We also tried to settle our bill a couple of times and couldn't because they were waiting for info to come back from the restaurant when we did eventually get to checkout the system went down so we ended up having to phone back in the week I fealt sorry for the lovely lady at reception she tried her best. We will go back as this is the first time I have given a negative review but it may be a while will be keeping eye on the reviews may try one of other Green Kings we still had great New Years Eve with friends thanks to the regular staff that made an effort really appreciate your hard work.

Room tip: Lower floor always nice

Called in here for food but hadn’t made a reservation. There were no tables in the restaurant so we sat in the bar area to order. Food was really, really nice and super speedy coming out. Great selection on the menu - including festive menu! The staff were friendly and polite.
Only complaints are that we had a 4 year old with us and there was an activity sheet on the back of her menu but unfortunately they didn’t have any crayons for her. I am pregnant and unfortunately the non-alcoholic wine isn’t sold by the glass, only the bottle - it’s not often you want a full bottle, just a nice glass to feel the part while having dinner. Having said that, I will definitely go back.

Visit to the restaurant not the hotel. Slow service especially as the whole table had pre-ordered. Two starters had not even been cooked by the time all the others had been eaten. My plate felt rough under the lip as if it was not properly clean. Following quite a wait all the mains came at the same time. Base of my Yorkshire pudding was soaked in fat, horrid, and cold mashed potato. Pudding was delicious though. Don't think I will be going back there for a while.

We stayed for 2 nights on a Greene King offer and it was just fantastic everything you could ask for was available, good food, parking, very good accomadation we had room 2 but most of all tremendous staff. Must say a big thanyou to Jude on reception a true credit to this Hotel/Pub always so charming & helpful. Brenda at breakfast was just fantastic her service was second to none just so perfect. Now last but not least Laura who i believe was the deputy manager & she certainly ran a most efficient team, thankyou Laura for a great couple of nights and no doubt we will see you all again. Merry Christmas & A Most Prosperous New Year. Ken & Marie Mercer Room 2.
