The Windflower Resort & Spa, Vythiri
Ranked #2 of 12 Hotels in Vythiri
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 10, 2013

My expectations from a good vacation are:-
pleasant weather
solitude
good food
physical activity
swimming pool
Kid friendly activities
nature walks
natural beauty
self pampering activities.
good hospitality

The windflower at Vythiri met or exceeded all of the above requirements except the last two. We travelled just before the onset of summer and in middle of the week. one striking observation about the food was that it tasted fresh, compared to the standard fare at Bangalore restaurants, loved it, there was sufficient variety across all courses. The resort is pretty, the rooms well furnished, have functional A/C , Satellite TV and WI-FI. decent pool, scenic backdrop from rooms and restaurant.

now the areas that need improvement.
we insisted on a room on the first floor and was promised, upon arrival they allocated one on a lower floor and only upon insistence reluctantly agreed to provide us one.
The lady at reception didn't have a welcoming demeanour, may be she was having a rough week.
WI-FI access wasn't working, it took me five iterations to get a functional passcode, the front desk wasn't equipped to fix the problems, could have been more pro-active
I was locked out of my room and had called the front desk, who promised to send some one with a key immediately, however it took 90 mins for the person to get the key.
My wife ended up with blisters when she had a facial at the spa, which was priced exorbitantly.
there was a campfire setup, no one informed us about one.
The staff weren't able to articulate directions well, when asked for facilities like Spa and Pool.
Housekeeping wasn't done when asked for.

Room Tip: pick a room on the upper floor or a suite

We visited the resort in the last week of January. We were given excellent recommendation of the resort by our travel agent, so we did set our expectation little high. We were utterly disappointing by what the resort had in store.

The management of the resort is in a state of constant chaos. The reception has no idea on how things run in the spa, are clueless about the services that come with the package and almost anything you need warrant 2-3 calls to the reception before you can get any response.

Couple of things that work for the resort is the awesome view the hills offer. The balconies of the villas offer a excellent view of Chembra peak and a sense of calm settles. Also, the buffet spread was quite expansive and kept our tummies satisfied through the stay.

Windflower in Wayanad is an excellent property but the service is equally hopeless. It is definitely not worth what they charge. There are more worthy places with better packages being offered.

We visited Windflower between 27th - 29th Jan 2013. The strain of travel to Vythiri from Bangalore via Kutta just got faded away after you enter the serene & lovely facility.

It was indeed a fabulous stay with each & everyone present at the resort very very curteous & always eager to help.

To mention a few: Muthu at the Reception, Ganesh & Paul at the Dining, Umesh at Spa

Small suggestions if the Group is willing to take:

1. Recreation for children to be in abundance which would keep them happy & occupied & elders could enjoy the stay.
2. Pool should have floaters & tubes for kids to enjoy.
3. Micro waves could be made available at each facility/room/cottage for parents carrying some ready eatables for infants.

All in all, in short It was a total super service package from all of you at The Windflower - Good Luck

Room Tip: Any room is equally good. If you have elders pls choose a room near to the reception area.

Very sceneic location. Large, spacious rooms. Very good facilities. Excellent food. Warm hospitality. Ideal place for both, couple trips and family outings. Kids will love the spacious rooms. Even the bathroom is huge!

Room Tip: The suites are very spacious. Did not stay in the villas; but they would be even better I guess.

This is a resort amongst coffee plantation and provides serene setting. Large, clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms. Food is good with variety. There are evening group activities hosted by the resort.

Being a resort, they should have activities for kids and also a health club.

It was a hilarious experience I had with this resort and the destination. I went there with my family for a pleasure trip conducted by Laptroika Tours. It is the first time, we both felt a bliss feeling of forest which surrounded the resort. We got the room on 2nd floor and got a good view around the resort. Its a feeling where a poet will arise from our mind. I appreciate the staffs of Windflower for perfect service and interaction. The dishes were also good on resort but most we had from the occasion of Laptroika nature event. I recommend this resort for who really loves nature. And a better choice for whom need relaxation from stresses. We also thankful to our tour operator for combining this resort with our tour package.

My experience with Windflowers Coorg and Mysore properties were good and me and my wife decided to check-out their Wayanad property for a 3N4D stay. I was not disappointed. The resort location is good, the staff and their sevice is excellent, the food is simply superb.
I stayed at the villa as well as the suite and the Villa is definitely better (ofcourse!) for the seclusion, veiw and the facilities it offers.

The reservation was handled pretty well, there were some glitches initially but Nikath (Bangalore office) was very co-operative and ensured everything went well

The drive from Bangalore is pretty good until you hit the Sulthan Bathery - Kalpetta stretch. This stretch is full of gaping pot-holes and you have to be really careful not hitting or getting trapped in one of them. From Kalpetta till Chundel it's a smooth ride followed by a rough ride for the last 2.5kms from Chundel till the resort

1. Both the suite and the villa have the basic facilities for the resorts in this category, like the TV with D2H (DVD's provided on request), Coffee maker, Mini bar, Wardrobe, Private sit-out/balcony overlooking the valley. The Villa has a Jacuzzi apart from one extra TV. They provide complimentary cookies in the room, toileteries, towels etc were replineshed/replaced without reminder.
2. The food is simply great. They have a impressive salad spread and cut fruits for breakfast/lunch and dinner. All the three meals wer usually multi-cuisine and with a live counter for Parathas/Dosa/Pasta/Ommlettes etc. I think Vythiri resort has the best food among the WF Mysore and WF Coorg
3. The staff is friendly specially Anirban (Kitchen) and Vipul (front desk)
4. They have a small indoor games room that has Ludo, Snakes&Ladder, Carrom, FoosBall, TT (the bats are broken and need a replacement!), BasketBall Post (not a court, mind you), Badminton. They arrange 1 hour art workshops for kids, ,my 6 year old daughter liked the paper art workshop
5. The swimming pool is good and clean with about 15 meter length and sloped with 5 ft. max. depth. They can do a better job of maintaining the changing room and providing the towels

Suggestions for the management:
A. Please put a kids play area with some swings, slides and other activities. It has to be better than what you have at Coorg
B. Consider providing fresh fruits instead of cookies as complimentary snack
C. Consider having a library with magazines and some books on nature
D. On arrival provide the guest a brouchure with pictures of the facility and activities

Overall a good experience and I would recommend this resort!
