“Set in two beautiful looking villas”
Reviewed June 14, 2011

My husband and I stayed here for three nights with a tour group. The villas, set in gardens wirh huge trees and tables, looked lovely but our room on the ground floor of the annex, the second villa, was small and gloomy. We had to keep the light on all the time. The bathroom was very old fashioned and badly needed updating! The breakfast buffet (nothing cooked) was what you'd expect in Italy and was fine, better than our previous hotel.. The staff were friendly and polite. Our room and the public rooms I saw were very clean.
We had dinner in the hotel one night and it was very good, I really enjoyed it.
Staying in the annex meant being away from passing traffic noise but I heard very strange other noises. One night, about 3.30am, I was woken three times by the sound of something heavy and metal being hauled across the floor upstairs, in the stairwell. I thought it must be somebody cleaning (well, I had been asleep!) or a lift. Next day I discovered there wasn't a lift, nobody was cleaning at that time, two other members of the party had heard it and it had been heard at the same time the previous night.
Well, I don't know.

We stayed for four days in this hotel and enjoyed all of them. The breakfast was good, we were on the fourth floor with a wonderful terrace to relax on, the room was clean and well serviced daily. Most importantly all the staff were friendly and helpfull.
After a days touring in rome we always felt like we were "returning home" when we boarded the train for the 25 minute trip to Frascati. This town has all the restuarants you need and how nice it was to join the locals on there evening promanade.
Loved it and would stay nowhere else if we return to Rome.

We used this hotel as a stop over for 2 days before flying home after a week in Italy. The hotel looks good from outside and apparently the owners used to live here beofre converting it into the hotel. Reception were helpful provioding us with guidebooks for Rome and information about train times but there was no -one to help us with our luggage from the car - not something I would have expected from an hotel charging us 200 Euros per night for the privilege of staying there.

The superior rooms were very satisfactory for our needs.

The restaurant, used because we were too tired to go anywhere else was very poor although the waitress was delightful and despite our complaints about uncooked and cold food remained calm and courteous throughout. If you're thinking of eating in Frascati walk the 100yds or so up the street to Al 19 a great little family run restaurant where the food is many times better for half the price.

Breakfast was standard Italian fare - adequate but nothing to write home about.

In summary - this hotel is fitted out to a very high standard but economies in maintenance and service cannot continue like this or standards will fall below an acceotable level. On balance we did not feel this was good value for money,

We were on our honeymoon and stayed the last two days of our trip after Rome at the Hotel Flora in Frascati. The building itself is beautiful including the roof terrace which was the only saving grace for the hotel.
The reception staff are incredibly inefficient, on arrival we were ushered to our room without even the most basic info, ie where do we get breakfast.
When we used the jacuzzi bath it created a smell like raw sewage , not sure if the pipes were old or not but we opted for the regular shower after that.
On our second day we returned at 1500 to find our room had not been cleaned , apparently the cleaner had forgotten to do not just our room but the whole first floor.
We were offered a coffee in the bar while it was done, only to find out when we checked out that we were to be charged for the coffee !!
The breakfast was also very poor, no hot food only a few croissants, cereal, yogurts, juice and coffee.
The restaurant was also closed the whole time as was the bar. All in all with new staff and possibly management it would be a great hotel !

Hotel Flora is beautiful hotel with great location and a accommodating staff. The hotel rooms are spread between two buildings of a former residence (the staff are happy to share the building's history). The grounds are pristinely maintained and set with chairs and tables, lit by candles at night, for enjoying a glass of wine or conversation. The interior of the hotel appears newly renovated.

My husband and I spent a week at the hotel with our 2 year old son and my parents. We stayed in a junior suite in the main building. The suite had two rooms separated by a door -crucial for us since it's no fun having your bedtime dictated by a 2 year old. With the suite, our son could nap or go to bed without being disturbed. The rooms were spacious with vaulted ceilings. The bathroom deserves a review of its own it was so fantastic! Double marble sinks, jacuzzi tub, floor to ceiling marble and tile.

My parents stayed in a standard double room in the second building. It was small, no question. There was little room for anything but the bed, desk and TV. Their bathroom had only a multi-head shower.

Both rooms had large flat screen TV's and cable with 100's of channels. The house keeping staff was wonderful -kept everything spotless, was very accommodating of our schedules with a child (on one occasion they came back three times so that we would be out when they cleaned the room), and were delightful to talk to.

Breakfast was very good and impressive compared to the standard "continental" fair. Fresh cheeses, meats, hard boiled eggs and then the typical breads, yogurt, cereals, etc.

One disappointment was that the restaurant was closed to during our stay. After seeing other guests eating at the hotel nightly, it was explained that the cook was only there for the tour groups. The bar was staffed so that you could get coffee and other simple drinks after 5 pm. The roof terrace was closed, but the front desk staff will give you the key if asked. The views are spectacular and it makes a great setting for a picnic.

The hotel is only about a three minute walk to the center of town and while the walk is uphill, it takes you past a terrace with a great view of Rome and the surrounding area. Also, the distance means its quiet; no street noise, no noisy neighbors. The train station is also only about a three minute walk away and the train to Rome (about 30 minutes) leaves almost every hour.

If you are travelling with small children, there is a tiny playground across the street from the hotel in the park at the Villa Torlonia. This is also a popular spot for jogging with the Villa's water theatre as a backdrop. The supermarket (Carrefour) is right up the street and easy walking distance for daily trips (we used our hotel mini-fridge for storing things like milk, but be fore-warned, the mini-fridge is very mini and not very frigid).

All in all, we would definitely recommend Hotel Flora to any traveler looking for a comfortable retreat, and especially those traveling with families or couples. This is a luxury hotel by European standards and is well worth the price.

We've just returned from a week's stay. Hotel Flora sounded great on TripAdvisor, and its website's photos were really attractive ... but the tiny "Superior Room with Terrace" was a disappointment. It was just large enough to hold the bed and a tiny desk. The small desk chair (which had a stained cushion) provided the only seating in the room. If we hadn't had the pleasant terrace, we'd have been quite unhappy. Within a couple of hours of our arrival, the 4th floor electricity failed (though that might have been the fault of my new dual-voltage Brookstone hair dryer) and our request for extra hangers and towels seemed to present difficulties. We have no other complaints - the hotel's ample breakfast, friendly staff, prime location, and lovely garden almost (but not quite!) made up for the tiny room. We also had an excellent dinner in the small restaurant.

We were looking for a hotel outside Rome, from which to visit Rome itself for just a day and from which we could most easily get to Fumicino airport for our flight home - we had spent most of our trip in Southern Italy. Hotel Flora in Frascati worked perfectly for the practical purposes we had in mind, but we were honestly and pleasantly surprised in two ways - the quality of the hotel itself and the beauty of Frascati, nestled in the hills a few miles south of Rome. The hotel was very nicely appointed, not just in the lobby but in the rooms themselves - and the staff could not have been more accomodating, in every way. We also found that from the hotel, it was just a short walk uphill into the town itself - we discovered a arts & crafts market going on in the piazza there and enjoyed browsing, followed by a very nice dinner - all in all, a great time.
