“Enjoyed this hotel very much”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2009

We stayed at El Convento Hotel for one night while driving around southern Spain. We booked a terrace room and are so happy we did. The views across the valley were absolutely beautiful! We were able to enjoy breakfast on the terrace while taking in these views. They spoke excellent english and there was free internet. The room was very comfortable, good air conditioning, nice bathroom , terrace had pretty spanish tile. My only complaint would be the hard beds which we find all over Europe. The old town is very quiet, but very peaceful and pretty. We parked our car at their sister hotel los Olivios, then took a cab for 5E. I highly recommend this hotel in the charming village of Arcos de la Frontera.

This hotel was very lovely and we had a great 3 night stay. We did not have a car for our 2 week trip around Spain, we relied on trains. The closest town with a train station is Jerez. The bus station in Jerez is right next to the train station. There are several bus companies that go to Arcos frequently throughout the day. The trip takes about 30 minutes. The bus station is in New Town which is an rough 20-30 minute uphill climb to Hotel Convento... take a taxi for about 5 Euros. I would never drive in Old Town because the streets are incredibly narrow and parking seems to be a problem. The hotel staff is very friendly and speaks English well. Our room was huge and had a huge bathroom. There are rooms available with a balcony or terrace. The terrace rooms are 15 Euros more a night. We were there in late July when it was over 100 degrees. We had a room with a balcony, and didn't sit outside very much anyway because of the heat. If the weather is nice, I'd invest in a terrace room. There is also a great outside covered terrace area with tables and chairs where you can eat breakfast or have a drink . The views are incredible from the terrace and rooms. There is not much to do in Arcos. You can tour the town in about a day. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel and the quaint little whitewashed town.

El Convento is in the middle of the old town of Arcos. As other people have said in their reviews it's best to not drive into the old town because the roads are narrow and the only parking lot near by is usually full.

My wife and I booked the room with a terrace to enjoy the amazing views. However, afterwards we realized that the cheaper balcony room would have sufficed since more often that not we were not in the hotel room. Also, the hotel itself has a public terrace with tables and the same view. Interestingly, the night we decided to enjoy the balcony some bats landed beside us....so we decided to just enjoy it in the morning. Annoyingly, when we were having breakfast on the terrace the next morning, people on the public terrace above us kept asking us if our terrace came with our room......kinda spoils the mood.

The room itself was clean, comfortable, and cozy. The bathroom was very clean but, as in other parts of Europe, we could not flush toilet paper. At least this bathroom had a baday.

The staff was very helpful and very friendly. They had great suggestions of things to do and were very quick if I ever asked for anything. Also, the hotel has free internet which is nice.

overall, the hotel is great and I would definitely stay here again. My only suggestion is that a balcony is all you need to enjoy the spectacular view.

Hotel El Convento is extremely well located in the middle of old town. Hotel staffs are very helpful. Our room has a large terraza with views of the valley below us, just incredible!. Hotel room is good size with sufficient room for 2 pieces of medium size luggage and somewhere to sit. All amenties is very clean and not cramp. Must have breakfast in your private terraza (if your room has one) or in the hotel terraza and enjoy the views. Good value for money.
Road up to the old town is very narrow and steep in certain parts and parking can be found at top of the hill in a public car park opposite the parador.

I agree with other reviewers that this hotel is a little difficult to get to by car. The streets in the old part of Arcos are extremely narrow and there is not very much parking in the central square by the parador. I did actually drive up and park but it was a squeeze. Probably better to park in the new town and take the shuttle bus. Once there, however, what a lovely place. We had a small room with a little balcony but what a view. Wished I had splurged and got one of the rooms with a patio. We could have sat and looked at the view while drinking a bottle of wine. Our room was very comfortable with a nice bathroom. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They serve a very nice breakfast. We asked to have breakfast on the common patio. They looked surprised that anyone would eat outside in October but it was not too cold for us. There is not a lot to do or see in Arcos but it sure is a lovely place for an overnight stop. Just wander up and down the narrow streets and find a nice place outside to eat or have a glass of wine.

We stayed one short night in this hotel at the beginning of our trip through Andalusia. The room was simply decorated with a decent sized bathroom and a little balcony overlooking the cliffs. Unfortunately it was completely foggy during our stay there, otherwise, I'm sure the view would have been amazing. Considering it was way off-season (Dec), I thought it was a little overpriced for what it was but the location was good and the staff was pleasant. Overall we had a nice stay.

We stayed in the Rick Steves' room which had a great terrace with a fabulous view. The receptionist told us the resturant was closed (possibly for the winter) but suggested two other restaurants that were close by. Their breakfst room was open in the morning for guests. The room was very nicely decorated. At night, however, we could have used better lighting and we thought the beds were overly firm for our taste. I had been concerned about getting to the hotel, but we had no problems driving a VWGulf up the hill and through some very narrow streets into the Old Town. We parked in the cathedral lot and it was a short luggage pull to the hotel. We purchased a parking pass from the hotel and spent the rest of our stay walking around town. We did visit the Parador, but were glad we had chosen El Convento for our stay - same view but at a much less expensive price.
