“The friendliest parador!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014

We stayed here last week and loved it. Yes the drive up was hairy, and car parking can be a challenge, but for us it was worth it. We found all of the staff friendly and very helpful. They offered to carry our bags to and from the car and helped us carry our bags to our room. We could have sat for hours looking at the magnificent view. The room itself and the bathroom would benefit from a make over, but they were spotlessly clean and full of charm. The lady in the dining room and bar was the best! She watched over everything and made sure that food was replenished with out delay. We were struck by her sense of good humour and she even taught us some Spanish.

We look forward to a return visit and would like to thank our trip advisor friends for encouraging us to make this trip.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a terrace and view.

We spent a night at the Parador and found it very unique. The room is furnished with authentic old furniture and the bath is modern. A great combination. But what is amazing is the balcony. We had a room with balcony facing the valley. Our balcony was literally built on the cliff and the views were spectacular. I think you need such a hotel to enjoy Arcos which is a gem in itself.

We were amazed to see how anyone could like this place.
Horrible to get to by car-2" clearance-one way-hills. Impossible to access from East-GPS failed. Have to drive completely around town and access from other side. Small parking lot. Lucked into space but could not move car because never get another.5 Euros a day and you have to get a daily pass from the desk and put it on the dash.
Needed cab and bus to get to Jerrez to see the horses and sherry places. So better if you want to visit Arcos to stay in Jerrez and day trip the other way but not worth it. Visit Ronda instead which has a WONDERFUL Parador.
No room service. To get ice you have to go down to the small bar-wait until the bar tender-waitress can get around to noticing you and then she has to leave and disappear for 5 minuets into the the kitchen to get it. I would have bought a bag outside except there are no stores around the hotel.
No bag ramp into reception-no bell man so I had to make multiple trips and carry the bags up the steps myself.
Not much to see in Arcos once you get there-the worst of the Hill towns.
NO AIR CON-they do not turn it on in April. Sweltered-impossible to sleep.8 rooms have a view and balcony and can catch some air. The rest including our "Superior Twin" face the square/Church/parking lot and the noise makes it impossible to open the window-even with ear plugs and the windows closed it is still too loud. Old-dark room. Denied my offer to pay for an upgrade. Terrible noise problem from cars trying to navigate the narrow, blind turn streets that are paved with polished stones so the tires shriek every time the wheel is turned. That sound will live in my memory of Arcos.
Narrow-two tables-long bar area with picture window that bakes you from the afternoon sun.
Same for the no shade terrace so have to go elsewhere for a drink.
WORST BREAKFAST ever. One over worked lady could not keep up with getting coffee so the buffet was not replaced. It was totally empty when we came down at 9AM-20 minute wait for scrambled eggs and the second day they never came. Three of the 8 plates of cold cuts etc had been replaced after we complained to the manager and we were done eating.50% smaller than the next worst Parador. No chafing dishes. A few tiny-2" cups with one small sausage slice or a 2" slice of bacon. No wine-no Champaign-no smoked salmon-no sparkling water-canned not fresh juice. No rolls-limited breads.Small limited fruit cup.
Worst 145 Euros we have ever spent.
Contrast Ronda. Easy drive over historic bridge. Hotel right there with a court yard to check in. Easy on site parking garage under hotel with fast elevator back up.Ramp-bellman-bright friendly young ladies at the desk. Not a bad room in the place. Front and both sides have gorgeous views out down the mountain .Sit out side balcony. Large bright airy room. Bath robe and extra pillows. Prompt room service ice and a very enjoyable "sundowner' on our balcony with the gentle music of the guitar player from the lookout point below. Lovely shaded terrace over looking the George/bridge for a cocktail the next evening.
35 Eurro three course fixed price lunch-excellent.
Spacious breakfast room and buffet. Fresh hot churros-excellent Iberian hams and cheese's. Multiple fruit. 10 chafing dish hot table with sausages-stews-lots of other local dishes. eggs to order. Multible choices of everything you would expect at a very expensive Sunday brunch.
Our 138 Euro Superior Twin was superior in every way and for a B&B of this quality a remarkable bargain.
I feel truly sorry for anyone whose only Parador experience is Arcos because enjoying them across the Country is an important part of our trips to Spain. Arcos is grossly understaffed, poorly managed and should be an embarrassment to the company. Even properly operated and raised to the prevailing standard the limitations of the site make it one to be avoided if you have a car-even if you park in the underground and expensive garage in the new town at the bottom of the hill and take a cab it is a hassle getting in and out. And unless you can get one of the 8 rooms at the end with a view and away from the noise-for get a bout it.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony/view room at the end overlooking the valley or stay elsewhere.

We had a high expectation of a Parador located on top of the hill. We knew it was an older place. Upon arrival the hotel offered what we hoped for. It has real charm and it is a bit outdated. And it needs some renovation. Staying for 2 nights, our first impression was positive. Although when looking at it in more detail, we observed that there is a lot of work to be done to bring this place to the high standard that the Parador hotels usually stand for. This hotel could be a charm hotel that one loves. Our attitude changed when we had dinner. This place has the most beautiful terras in the area. We don't understand why the hotel doesn't use that asset for dinner or breakfast. Besides, the food was average and it reflects the image of this hotel. I don't think that we will stay here again. A really missed opportunity as this hotel has everything to become a topper!

We have stayed in a number of these in Spain. We find this place "the best of the best". All these are nice but we loved this one. Food, drink, views....this one has it all. The drive up is a little hairy but once you get there you will love it.

Parador is situated just in a medival town . Building is so classocal that corridor and each rooms are keeping the old-style .bathroom is also classical and good feeling.
We can see beautiful view from terrace of parador,it is very good to drink a coffee with beautiful church and white houses.

This place is unique, interesting, and located perfectly.

The cliff view rooms have fantastic views, as they are located above the huge cliff overseeing the lower city and country landscapes.

Worth the price.

Parking is very difficult due to cetral historic location on the top of the hill. Parking is easy at lower city, but hike up is tough for anyone with bad knees or back.

Drive up would require folding the mirors and healthy amount of fear.

Consider budgeting a cab drive up from parking at lower city.
