My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Buscot Manor In July. I don’t think of us as super-picky Americans, but I feel like this inn needs a few extra touches to push it up to five stars.
First the pluses: beautiful 17th century building. Lovely four-poster beds. I absolutely felt like I was in a romance novel! Romney is very friendly and welcoming. Great breakfasts, really outstanding. The garden is delightful, a lovely place to sit and read. Quiet village, Thames River in the back yard. Good location for exploring the Cotswalds.
Needs improvement: No toiletries were offered other than liquid hand soap. Although most inns now are offering a selection of toiletries, I don’t necessarily expect all the high-end shampoos, lotion, etc., but there should be bath soap. Also, wash clothes would be nice, and definitely there should be Kleenex. There are robes to use, but no hooks in the bathroom to hang them on. There were tea things in the room, but the room was not serviced the three nights we were there. To be fair, on the third evening Romney did ask if we needed anything. I don’t mind making my own bed, but I would appreciate at least the trash being taken out each day. These are all little things but taken together cause the lowered grade.
Overall this is a lovely inn and I would recommend it, but make sure to bring all the necessary items!
Oh, and don’t let the bathroom not being en-suite put you off. I never saw anyone while I was walking to and fro.
