My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Buscot Manor In July. I don’t think of us as super-picky Americans, but I feel like this inn needs a few extra touches to push it up to five stars.
First the pluses: beautiful 17th century building. Lovely four-poster beds. I absolutely felt like I was in a romance novel! Romney is very friendly and welcoming. Great breakfasts, really outstanding. The garden is delightful, a lovely place to sit and read. Quiet village, Thames River in the back yard. Good location for exploring the Cotswalds.
Needs improvement: No toiletries were offered other than liquid hand soap. Although most inns now are offering a selection of toiletries, I don’t necessarily expect all the high-end shampoos, lotion, etc., but there should be bath soap. Also, wash clothes would be nice, and definitely there should be Kleenex. There are robes to use, but no hooks in the bathroom to hang them on. There were tea things in the room, but the room was not serviced the three nights we were there. To be fair, on the third evening Romney did ask if we needed anything. I don’t mind making my own bed, but I would appreciate at least the trash being taken out each day. These are all little things but taken together cause the lowered grade.
Overall this is a lovely inn and I would recommend it, but make sure to bring all the necessary items!
Oh, and don’t let the bathroom not being en-suite put you off. I never saw anyone while I was walking to and fro.

We had a one-night stopover at this B&B whilst on a touring holiday. The house was built in the 17th century and so was very interesting. Our hostess was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome. We slept in a large 4-poster bed. On the downside the bathroom was not en-suite, though it was for our exclusive use (by walking across a large landing). Breakfast is served at one large communal dining table (which is not ideal for some guests), but our fellow diners/guests turned out to be easy to get on with. There was a strange assumption that everyone wanted a glass of yoghurt with which to start breakfast, and it was already in place when we sat down. We didn't want it. The cooked breakfast was good, but the communal coffee pot was somewhat inadequate and not replenished. All in all, though, a thoroughly pleasant experience!

This is a beautiful building with excellent large rooms and a great garden. The manager, Romney, is extremely friendly and helped us settle in very quickly. The breakfast was delicious! Buscot Manor is in very pretty surroundings, and only a short distance from the Thames path which we used for an excellent and very pretty walk after we checked out.

A beautiful home in a wonderful location, ideal for exploring, walking and visiting nearby Buscot Park.

Romney was a wonderful host and, along with her family, she welcomed us warmly. We had bought some champagne and she suggested we sit in the garden and she bought out some of her flutes - what a way to start our weekend away! The full English breakfast was superb and the variety and quality of food was top notch. Our room was exquisitely pretty with some very thoughtful personal touches.

Although I would love to keep this a secret, I thoroughly recommend Buscot Manor, whether it be for a quiet getaway or to use as a base to explore the surrounding area. Thank you Romney!

This place lived up to and beyond expectations. First of all, Romney, who manages this place is so friendly. The breakfast was a great start to the day. This historical, National Heritage home really does feel like stepping back in time. We were made to feel very welcome by Romney and her friend, Jan. We stayed just a weekend but felt so quickly relaxed here. It is a perfect place to wind down. Buscot is so picturesque. We came from Germany and we enjoyed breakfast with guests from England, Ireland, Russia, and Australia. And still Buscot Manor offers plenty of room to retreat from people if you wish to. 5 stars are not enough for this gem of a place with its welcoming hostess, Romney.
