My husband and I (aged 27 and 30) have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Crown using a living social voucher, which was exceptional value for money. The room was spacious, clean and modern and included a large flat screen TV. We visited other B&B's in the lakes and surrounding areas this week and this was the largest room by far. With the living social voucher our meals were included for the first night so we had the choice of bar meals, I had the gorgeous fish and chips which my husband sampled and liked so much he had it the following night. The second night I choose a meal from the a la carte menu (salmon with mussels) and was extremely impressed with both the presentation and taste. Desserts were absolutely delicious! On Thursdsay night it was open mic night, which was a treat, not our usual kind of music, more folk/country with their ukuleles and harmonicas but they were excellent and suited the location of the pub. We stayed up sampling the local beers until after it finished. The Crown is an excellent location for exploring the lakes (we visited Hawkshead and Coniston after recommendation from the host) and local villages such as Cartmel. I would highly recommend the Crown for both its rooms, food, bar, entertainment and location.

Lovely hotel in a nice setting, great welcome from Amy (?) and nice room (daytime). Excellent choice of starters for evening meal but mains are 'pub grub' entries (sausage & mash, Scampi, etc). Breakfast was not good (pre-cooked bacon, sausage, burnt baked beans, a chipolata and a rubbery fried egg (for both of us). If you cook a 100 meals there may be an excuse but cooking for 2's, 4's or whatever at different times deserves a fresh fried egg. Sorry but food-wise it is not good especially in the morning.

Room Tip: Avoid room 2 (appears to be over beer coolers that run on/off all night)

Stayed here as attending a wedding nearby. Lovely, calm setting with a relaxed atmosphere. Staff are exceptionally friendly, easy going and welcoming, making for a relaxed and stress-free stay. Staff went to extra effort to accommodate our late return and were always eager to help.

Lovely, clean rooms and good food service.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and will be returning myself.

My husband & I absolutely loved our stay at The Crown. The staff were all so genuinely friendly & helpful. They recommended us some brilliant walks! The food was amazing, the evening entertainment was great - pub quiz and open mic night! There was such a great atmosphere, everyone was so friendly :) Location is ideal, as it's a really short drive to Lake Windermere, and even though it was slightly further to get elsewhere, we loved the drives because the scenery is so spectacular. We would definitely recommend and will stay there again when we next go to the lakes.

Myself and my fiancee have just returned home after 2 wonderfull nights stay at the crown in high newton, from the minute we arrived the owners crawford and leslie made us feel very welcome. Our room was spotless and comfortable, the food on offer is of a very high standard, our plates were always cleared, if anyone loves a nice steak then there is no better place to eat 1, as for the gammon steak well again we have never tasted better along with home made sausages mmmm mmm, we will be going back there this year no doubt about that.
