“Fantastic coastal hideaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

We always enjoy staying with the YHA as the facilities are excellent for being outdoors.
We had a great stay, boggle hole is literally on the coast with direct access to the beach,Cleveland way and a short walk to the rail trail between Scarborough & Whitby.
Staff are excellent,Nick's hot chocolates are legendary! Breakfast well worth £5 too,or you can always self cater.
Many thanks!

Chose this as our base for a 3 day adventure during that weird period between christmas and new year. last year we stayed in scarborough so we were pretty much visiting same places, just from a different base. first off, it was a crazy trek to get there. train from shef to york, then to scarborough, then the overpriced bus to fylingthorpe then it really got amusing! walking into the middle of nowhere in total darkness, into a forest, almost through a river, finding a bridge then a big uphill then downhill walk to our destination. good job we brought a torch!

first night we decided to walk to robin hoods bay. tide was in so we had to walk along cleveland way. this is an experience! incredible winds, total darkness, the stars looked amazing. you can get taxis but we like an adventure so it was great fun for us.

the place is amazing and the staff are friendly too. we had a pizza one night and it was homemade and acceptable. only thing stopping it getting it full marks is that the showers were not hot, warm at best. also, i think they should provide free wifi to everyone, not just yha members. having said that, having no wifi or tv or radio adds to the secluded vibe of the place. overall, a great place to stay.

A fantastic way for our family and our friends to spend the weekend together. Great location, lovely building, fabulous games and treasure hunts for the kids and very helpful and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back.

First timers to YHA. Felt like kids on an adventure. Staff were fab, food was good and plentiful, relaxed atmosphere. Our annexe room was clean, warm and comfortable. We are converted and joined YHA on site! Thank you Peta and Nick x

Room Tip: Annexe needs some tlc - but it made no difference to our comfort or enjoyment.

why not join the YHA and sample many surprising places, boggle hole being one such place.staff are really friendly and helpful, rooms are basic but clean and cheap, there is cooked food to be had (breakfast is good for a fiver).location is fantastic just a hundred metres to the beach once on the beach robin hood bay is just a pleasant walk away,(there is information on tide times at the hostel reception) with Whitby to the north, scarborough to the south and north yorks moors behind you boggle hole makes an ideal base for exploring the area.

Stumbled across this little gem in an awesome setting. Not for the faint hearted, 500m walk from carpark and set up in an old smugglers house, so not 5 star. Cool little bar with ok prices. Menu pretty basic. Keep a close eye on the tides or be prepared to walk back round the top path. Nice friendly staff.

Me and 3 friends stayed here for the Whitby Goth weekend and could not be happier. The walk down to the hostel has a little slope, but ends with a fantastic view of the sea and a small beach. Check in was quick and easy and the staff member we spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful, we were informed that there were free hotdogs, I assume because it was Halloween evening, but due to other plans we did not have any. The interior of the hostel has a pirate theme, which was really well done and we had great fun with the horse heads on sticks!
Our room was perfectly sized and very clean, the beds were comfy and none of us had any trouble sleeping, and even through we had the window open for most of our stay, the room stayed very warm, even with the heating on low. There were plenty of toilets (aptly named the poop decks) and again were very clean, same as the showers.

There seems to be a great community spirit at this hostel, our room looked right out into the courtyard and there was a lovely fire going in the centre and people dressed up having fun. Everyone we came across were very friendly and I would thoroughly recommend this hostel to families and groups of friends alike, in fact it is head and shoulders above many hotels I have stayed in.
