“Won't tolerate small children”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2011

What a pity the staff were so rude about our having small children. Shame as it looks like a lovely local. Food is average pub grub and the soft drinks on tap are weak and flat, but otherwise has a lovely atmosphere and handy large car park. Cannot recommend though as despite being billed as a family establishment, they couldn't have been more child unfriendly.

Great welcome, east to find pub and first impression was good. Room had everything required but fan in the bathroom was very noisy as well as the ticking clock which had to live in the bathroom with the noisy fan! Wardrobe doors sqeaked badly (needed silicone). Bed was comfortable, food very tasty, good tv reception but we were 'locked out' on Christmas evening in the cold for 20 minutes until we roused other guests to find the landlord. No apology for this either at night or morning. My guess is someone forgot to make our card valid for our 2 nights as requested. Lucky we returned before 10pm or we could have frozen to death.

I stayed here for a night as we were having a family party and had all arranged to stay here. I had a double room - which had all you needed. The bed was very comfortable and I fell asleep without delay. The room was equipped with dressing table, tea/coffee, TV, hairdryer etc but had a modern cosy feel to it. I really liked the added touch of the old fashioned style alarm clock by the bed. The bathroom was excellent - the are products provided which were of a good quality. A continental breakfast is included which provided a good selection but everyone in our party decided to upgrade to the cooked breakfast (rememeber to pre order the night before). This was fresly cooked and consisted of just about everything you could want, the food was cooked very well and presented in a modern style. I ate at 9.30am and didnt need to eat again until the evening. The staff were all friendly and welcoming too. Would stay again if in the area.

This was our second weekend at the Camden and we will definitely return. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and a varied menu. The food was well presented, generous and good value. There is a carvery on Sunday with a varied selection of vegetables. It is within easy reach of Tunbridge Wells.

We stayed here for one night when attending a party locally to the hotel. The room we had was a family room. The room was very spacious and very clean. The bathroom was clean and the shower was big.
The continental breakfast was great and included boiled eggs which was a nice surprise. The staff were very friendly.
We would recommend this hotel to our friends.

We spent a single night in the family room and were very pleased with the clean, modern and spacious room. I enjoyed a good sleep; even if the duvet was a tog too high. Bathroom was great too. We had a table for ten in the restaurant and were given choice of two tables which was great as weather was cold in the evening. The food in the restaurant was ok, my lamb shank was perfection but a little marred by lack-lustre mash and stewed-veg. I cook myself and perhaps Chef could consider something more adventurous; 'flash-mash' or Rosti with steamed and crisp seasonal organic veg. Mint sauce was also missing! This dish could be easily elevated into a real crowd-puller as the joint was indeed excellent. The wine list could also be upgraded to include a wine of accompanying class. Suggest proprietor contact St John Bread and Wine in London! We were told that a blues band would be performing in the garden but were a little let down by the double-act who did not live up to the billing. I was not expecting Paul Jones and The Blues Band but was gutted not to hear a live Blues-harp. Still, it was more for the kids; although we noticed that one waitress was getting very irate at having to work with hoards of kids at her feet. More kids stuff in the garden please! A clown, face-painting, magician.......food for thought. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and innovation - boil your own eggs is a novelty! Big thumbs up and I will come again tomorrow if the food and drink bar is raised to the next level - and that probably includes losing MasterBrew (not a 'real' ale) Thanks and very good luck to the proprietors.
