Description: The Black Swan is located in the small residential community of Idridgehay on the main Duffield to Wirksworth Road. A former coaching inn, built around 1840, it offers two dining areas; a conservatory room with stunning views of the rolling Derbyshire hills and the main bar and dining room, with two stoves for those cosy winter nights. The Black Swan serves the best of british food using seasonal ingredients, sourced within the British Isles and where ever possible locally, offering traditional, great British dishes skilfully prepared, with a changing daily specials menu board and set Sunday Lunch menu

“Disappointing Sunday lunch and indifferent service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2011

Booked for Sunday lunch and were advised to take a later reservation - we realised why on arrival as there was a huge lunch party of about 20 people booked in. Had to wait 30 minutes for anyone to come and take our order and then had a very lengthy wait for the starter to arrive. Food was average and unexciting - £18 for 2 courses for Sunday lunch which we deemed as not good service . Service was surly and offhand - certainly not the most welcoming. and the whole restaurant was lacking in atmosphere.
Needless to say, we won't be back!

“perfect surroundings and wonderful food - a holiday jewel for us”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2011

five minutes away from our relaxing place to stay, we didnt expect to find such a wonderfully appointed restaurant serving great food. However, this is something that we found in the tiny village of Idridgehay. It looked just like any other pub in these great villages that you find as you drive along these wee lanes - we are not lucky enough to have this in Scotland but I love the fact you can come across a pub and that is really what they are, but that they have these amazing chalkboards with specials and truly lovely food worthy of any restaurant in a bigger town.

We came across the Black Swan as it was one of the closest places and after a busy day, this is as far as we wished to drive - beautifully laid out dining room in conservatory looking out to the garden and hills beyond and wonderful food - my daughter loved the fish and husband found the duck leg very tasty - I too had duck cakes for a starter on a minted pea pure - totally yummy.

I have to give a special mention to the Lemon Posset Pudding which I came back for the next evening - my goodness, Gareth does a mean dessert! Thank you Rose and Gareth for making our two evenings so enjoyable, relaxing and well worth the drive for! We wish you all the luck in your lovely lovely Black Swan x

“superb food--top quality cooking in newly refurbished restaurant, great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2011

Just made our second visit to this restaurant since it reopened in late 2010. The quality of the food and presentation were superb, the menu and specials included unusual dishes such as razor clams and the prices were very reasonable --top quality dishes at normal pub food prices. Pleasant decor, modern and light inside. Highly recommended
