“Awesome taste of Nature”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We recently visited the resort, a small group of 5 families; 4 families from Bangalore and 1 from Kerala. The ride from Bangalore to Thirunelli was spectacular as we chose the path via Hunsur – Nagarhole – Kuta. The resort is very close to Thirunellu temple – one needs to travel around 1.5KM from the temple. The roads are bad (Kaccha Road), but the SX4 in our group could make it without any scraping of underbody. We reached around 12 in the noon. The vehicles had to be parked on the road and we had to take a short walk to reach the resort. This were we got the first taste of what we were going to experience – the walk was along a pebble filled walkway with stream on one side. The path extended into the thick jungle foliage and suddenly we were in the resort. It has 3 tree houses and one main concrete block where there were rooms. We had blocked the 3 huts and 3 rooms. The staff was extremely courteous and took pains to make us feel at home. The staff had come near our car and helped us in carrying the bags so that we could focus on scenery.
All of us were hungry, the staff promptly served us a sumptuous lunch – a combination of veg and non-veg. The food was prepared in the traditional Kerala style.
The resort had plenty to offer in terms of eco-tourism
- A nice stream – crystal clear, ice cold
- Trek in paddy field
- Jungle Trek – how deep you want to go is based on how brave you are
- Camp fire @ night
- Stay in a tree house
- Traditional Kerala style menu
- Fresh juice after each trek
- Visit to Tirunelli temple
Being an avid traveler myself due to my nature of job, I could really appreciate the courtesies of the staff who were making honest efforts to make our stay more and more comfortable.

All we needed was as a break away from the run of the mill and have an experience au-delà extraordinaire … to enjoy the feeling of being so close to Nature…

We found Kalindi River Resort, Thirunelli, Wayanad an excellent place…

The approach may be a little hard for elders, but adventurous. The resort in located in a light jungle, say, a disused coffee plantation, by the side of R Kalindi. The appearance matches with the surroundings. Inside, you may not find it sophisticated, but comfortable.

Tired by travelling from Bangalore slept well…

In the morning we woke up to the melodious singing and chirping of birds, with the incessant jingle of Kalindi as background score. Sunshine reached the place late, lazily.

Practically having nothing to do, just sauntered about, clicked around, whistled and sang moodily.

The food was good…Idiyapan, Puttu, fish curry, white rice, …

The men, Vineesh, Murali, Satish, et al, preparing and serving the food were good, friendly with considerable humility. We were around 40 in all… everyone wanted to have his/her food as and when liked… But they were excellent hosts!

As we walked uphill to the motorable road, Brahmagiri range of hills greeted us. Crossing the rice fields and climbing up a small hill we reached the Thirunelli temple: modest and simple.

Sanjay, the owner, visited us and spent some time enquiring about our comforts, etc and taking our suggestions for improvements in good humour.

We stayed, played in the river, had a lot of fun, enjoyed camp fire, games and wonderful time!

The beauty and the serenity of the resort will help you to rejuvenate from all the tensions in your day today life. The stay in the bamboo cottages is the another unique experience. Have been to this place twice and those days will be cherished for ever... Yet another plan cropping up for a third trip to this awsome resort. Excellent Bamboo cottages, Serene location , Fresh Homely food , Customer friendly staff , No gimmicks like in Star resorts...

One of the reviews shows a poor rating for the resort....he is definitely an IT professional, who does not know about blending with nature...The resort is totally green and Eco friendly... The fragile ones never suit a resort of this asture.....

A dip in the kalindi river can relieve you from the stress over the past year.... I am glad that the reviewer did not ask for a handrailed River, like the ones available in resorts !!

A must go location if you are a nature lover....

Room Tip: While you are here, be prepared for Mosquitoes / flies ....You are not in the city...You are in the...

This is a exceptional specialty lodging property, as its name says "Its just on the river side". The movement we got to the property we are just excited seeing the mountains covering all the 3 sides. The walk to the rooms just by the river was the great start to the 2 days fun. The completely ECO bamboo houses concept was awesome. The 24/7 sweet noise of the speeding river and the feel of getting into it to feel the cold chill in the spine is the best. This was cozy and affordable.
Now the cons:
1. The bamboo houses need urgent renovation.
2. The food needs to be upgraded in taste point and also quantity.
3. The road to the property really needs the maintenance (only last 3-4 Kms)
4. The service was good but can been more responsive.
5. This is not very suitable for babies.
