We stayed here for one night, arriving in time for a very welcome lunch. We visited the falls in the afternoon, and returned for a swim in the very well placed infinity pool at the end of the day. The room was excellent, with a stunning view of the falls, and had good shower facilities.
We ordered an evening meal, which was very pleasant - but the lighting in the restaurant was a bit dim, and as far as we were aware - no alcohol.

Room Tip: with a view of the falls

Stayed here for one night on the 20th Jan. If you are going to Athirapally Falls, then this is the place to stay otherwise don't bother. The Manager (Eldo John) was really helpful. If anyone wants more info, please feel free to PM me.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the Falls, but I think all the rooms have this.

This hotel is undeniably beautiful. The location cannot be beat, and the rooms are impeccably modern, cushy and gorgeous. I can't say enough about what a charming oasis the grounds are, from the infinity pool to the dining area on the grass. The fruit basket brought to our room was another beautiful touch, and it was heavenly to sit on the balcony in a cushy robe with with fresh pineapple and pomegranates.

Our issues came from 2 things: a bad experience with the food, and a bad experience with the hotel manager.

The food: they seemed to have some strange quirks with running their restaurant - they were strict about the hours they would serve food/drinks, and were not able to serve the foods that were listed on the menu. For lunch we were given one option despite the huge list on their printed menu - the "typical Kerala lunch", a spread of small portions served on a banana leaf with a glass of buttermilk. I was pretty suspicious since I noticed them spooning ghee over everything, but my friend dove right in with unabashed enthusiasm and sampled it all. She was rewarded for this with HORRIBLE food poisoning (vomiting for 24 straight hours, diarrhea for the next 4 days) which truly ruined a large portion of our trip to India. We regretted that lunch SO much, I can't even tell you.

Hotel manager: upon check-in, we informed him that we were leaving the next morning at 6am for a trip to an elephant sanctuary. He acknowledged this fact and even reminded us that we wouldn't get the included breakfast, which we said was fine. Our travel agent also later told us that she had personally informed him that we had an early checkout and would need our bill ready to go. He acknowledged this to her as well. Well of course, at 5:45am there was no one to be found except a nice guy who was sleeping under the reception desk (there were no lights on anywhere either). He was confused and didn't know how to help us, and had to call the manager at his home to come to the hotel to check us out. We waited a half an hour for this, panicking because we were on a strict time schedule for that day's excursion. When the manager arrived, he had the nerve to lecture us and say that we should have told him we were leaving early and that this was unacceptable. Excuse me? We told you this very thing 12 hours ago! Our travel agent did too! His rudeness was totally bizarre and left us feeling very annoyed that we'd spent so much money to stay in this resort.

Stayed for one night in the Treehouse.

The Treehouse is nicely designed, comfortable and clean, with a stunning view of the waterfalls. The bathroom was compact but worked fine.

Watch out for the insects in the evening. Also, the path from the main hotel premises to the Treehouse isn't very well lit. When we were walking to the restaurant for dinner, a sambar deer crossed our path. We could only see a large shadow cross us because of the darkness. On the way back, we asked a staff member to accompany us with a torch. He then told us that a leopard had been spotted very close to the hotel, so we spent a few hours panicking about that!

The hotel can organize activities such as bird watching, a guided tour of the Athirapally Waterfalls and a jeep safari. We took the tour of the Athirapally Waterfalls, which was quite good.

The staff were generally very helpful and service was good. The food was average. Breakfast was buffet style with Keralan and western options. The lunch and dinner menus were very limited, but the chef is happy to cook upon request (for example, the only non-vegetarian dish on the dinner menu was prawns, and we requested chicken because of allergy issues). Surprisingly, they didn't have coconut water! We did, however, find it just down the road outside the hotel.

The hotel should put a bigger sign outside the gate, which is easier to spot while driving.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and the Treehouse made our holiday quite unique.

Room Tip: Go for the Treehouse for a bit of adventure.

We visited the hotel just to get lunch, and it turned out to be by far the best meal we had in three weeks travelling in South India. The view over to the falls from the lunch area was just stunning and staff were very friendly. They even showed us the rooms (they looked very nice but make sure you get one facing the falls) and took us up into the tree house. That was special. It has a double bed and two layers of mosquito netting. I hope the chef stays on... we had a fish curry and a prawn biriani made with dried prawns. Simply fresh and delicious and beautifully spiced. The WC was spotless too and there was a little shop selling soaps and essential oils and T shirts. Be warned, you must book ahead if you are dropping by for a meal or you wont get past the gate.

Room Tip: Insist on a waterfall view

Wow! Best side trip you can do from Cochin. You cannot compare the view from Rainforest Lodge. Breathtaking vista of the waterfall right out the window of every room. On top of that the rooms are modern, clean and well appointed. Food was also affordable and good. Service was great.
Make time to hike up to the falls. Above the falls there is a swimming area where you can frolic in some small cascades. Crowded with Indian people but definately a cool experience and one of the highlights of our trip.
