“Place to relax”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

My stay there was only for 2 days. Had a wonderful relaxing stay. The room are good. We had 2 see view rooms and a Villa. The villa had an excellent view. Sea view rooms are equally good. It is very accessible for physically challenged people as well. Well maintained place. You have to try all their restaurants, they are all unique in their own way. The food in all the restaurants was great. I loved the upper deck restaurant for their wonderful service and awesome Mediterranean food. Morning walk in the beach and the sun rise was pleasure to see.

Room Tip: rooms in the second floor on south side has excellent sea view or villa from 31 to 38 are really goo...

Last week we stayed in their sea facing cottage and our friend in a room in the main block of the hotel. The cottage was nice but the main building of the hotel was unimpressive and poorly maintained.Reception area no way does justice to the Taj hotel brand. food was average and of the dozen various Taj hotels we have visited this was the worst food .Service rendered by older staff was just average while younger staff were very good.House keeping in the cottage was very good.On the whole it is a good hotel but not really of Taj grade .

The Taj group has an impeccable record of service and quality. The Fisherman's cove in Chennai is a solid testimonial to their commitment of providing the best. I had booked for the "Spa sojourn" package. This is not my first visit to the hotel, but it is the first time I'm reviewing it on TA. What amazes me is that every year, the service just gets better and better. The hotel has an assortment of rooms, cottages and villas. I usually prefer the sea view cottages which provide a dramatic view of the Bay of Bengal. The cottages are well appointed. Clean and very neat. The outdoor shower is a quirky touch. With frangipani flowers peeking through the bamboo enclosures and the sky as a roof, every shower taken here is a delight. The hotel has 3 restaurants and a bar. The sea gull restaurant is where breakfast is served. The spread is amazing with incredible variety. The lunch and dinner options will keep you asking for more. The pool in this hotel is just beyond words. You can lounge for hours on at the pool side. For families with kids, there are umpteen activities to keep them busy. The "Jiva" spa is heaven!!! But what sets this place apart is the wonderful staff. Courteous, friendly and wonderful people just make this already awesome place even more AWESOME!! I visit every year and it gives me such a sense of belonging. I would recommend it to every frayed nerve who has access to India and Chennai. It is just what you need to feel pampered and rejuvenated.

Room Tip: Whatever room you choose, make sure you get the sea view. There are few rooms and cottages which off...

Stayed three nights on business earlier this year. Location is fantastic - right on the water and you can watch the sunrise if you head down to the beach early in the morning. They also have a nice pool with a swim up bar which was fun. However, the rooms themselves appear to have been untouched since the 80's or 90's are are very dated. Worst bed I have slept on in a hotel in years and the elevator is tiny. I've also stayed at the Radison about 20 minutes further up the coast and feel it's much, much nicer.

We (three friends) wanted to catch up after almost 10 years and spend some quality time.
After the meal in the sea side restaurant, we sat and started chatting on the bench provided by the beach (it must be more than 200 meters from the sea shore itself) our whole experience was spoiled by security and hotel staff.
1. 5 mins into our conversation - First security guy enquired if we were guest and took our room number.
2. Same guy turned up 10 mins later and said that beach is closed after 11 pm and we should leave.
3. 10 mins later - another security guy turned up and said that the benches were only for guests who stayed in the cottages and we should leave.
All along we spoke to them politely and explained that we just chatting and not being nuisance etc...
4. 10 mins later - 4 security guys + 1 staff came and gave us all sorts of excuse - beach closes at 8 pm, space is only for people who stay in cottages and the duty manager was watching through (non-existent) CCTV and has instructed them to vacate us.

This time it looked like they weren’t going to go no mater what we had to say. Quick visit to the duty manager to get an explanation revealed he wasn't even aware of our presence by the beach and haven't instructed anyone to vacate us.

All along we weren't the only persons by the beach, there were others walking the beach, on their phones - loud, excited, happy as you would expect people to be in their holiday. And none of the security guys asked them to leave.

So on 66th Indian Independence day it made me wonder if we were truly independent. Did the security guys wanted money (bribe), were they genuinely worried about the safety / security of the guest, were the security guys instructed by management or (being a bit cynical) were we targeted for being south Indians?
Wonder what Mr. J N Tata might make of it now!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 350. The air conditioning was set to 17 degree C when we checked in (and when an a...

I decided to take my wife out for our first getaway after we had a baby to the Fisherman's cove. My wife is from Chennai and we had heard a lot of good things about the resort.

We were very disappointed with our experience there. Here is a brief summary of our experience:
1. Checkin - I had reserved over my mobile. They were unable to trace it for over an hour. A word of advice, avoid booking for Taj over your mobile
2. Food - Quality of food was very disappointing. We ordered A La Carte - spagetti for dinner and it looked like noodles dripping in soup. Most of the guests stuck to the buffet and I would recommend the same.
3. Service - Most waiters appeared indifferent. The hotel was packed and it did not appear that they were really worried about losing customers
4. Ambience - The hotel is located in a nice area, very close to the sea. The premises are also maintained very well
5. Facilities - It has a lot to offer to children and families. My wife used the spa and she was happy with the services offered. They also have a good pool. Rooms in the new block were new, however, the sofas in the balcony were dirty and ours had cigarette burns in them
6. Rates - I booked on a long weekend and I found that it was very expensive

Overall, I would say that the hotel has the facilities of a Vivanta, but the service and food leave a lot to be desired. In fact, they were poorer than the services at Taj Gateway hotels.

I am staying at the resort right now and I like it. It isn't the cheapest property in Chennai but it's worth it. I like that it's secluded and cut off from the hustle-bustle of the city. The bayview restaurant is fabulous and the breakfast at the Seagull restaurant is pretty good too. The service at the hotel could be better but I guess they are on island time and in no rush to get anywhere. The Spa on the other hand was fabulous and one of the highlights of my stay here.
