Reni Pani Jungle Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 9, 2014

Reni Pani is an idyllic lodge from which you can visit Satupura, once of the least visited and hence least crowded national parks in India.
Rather than a room, you get your own cottage with a large bedroom and separate dressing room/bathroom. A personal butler escorts you to and from the main building. This is important at night when it is dark and you need the light form the butler's torch to guide you. And one evening, the guests in the next door cottage saw a leopard from their balcony!

The service is superb. The lodge provides its own very knowledgeable naturalists, who go out with you each day on the game drives, in a addition to the tracker and driver provided by the national park. Satpura does not try to promote itself as a destination to see tigers, but it is a very attractive place to drive round with a wide variety of wild life. On our first trip we saw nothing special ,but this trip we saw a leopard and a sloth bear both days.

In the lodge, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It was cold at night when we were there, and we were delighted to find hot water bottles had been placed unbidden in the bed during dinner, to ensure we were warm in bed. Every evening, you gather for drinks and very substantial canapes before dinner (all included in the price). The food is excellent and varied, and we enjoyed the chance to sit with and talk to the naturalists, owner and other guests over dinner. My husband was ill on what should have been our last night. We stayed an extra night at a heavily discounted price, The staff were in credibly solicitous, and nothing was too much trouble for them. They came to check how he was doing every couple of hours, and were horrified we had not pressed our emergency call to summon help in the night.

We would come back here again without hesitation.

We stayed at Reni Pani for two nights last month, and were really impressed. Unfortunately torrential rain closed the park for part of our stay, but the staff did their best to provide alternative activities so that we saw as much as possible under the circumstances. The room was great and I can't praise the food highly enough. Honestly, it's worth visiting just for the meals! All the staff were great, especially Khim, who looked after us so well. The grounds are full of wildlife, we saw deer, monkeys and loads of birds without even leaving our room. The park itself is amazing. A variety of terrains, with a great variety of birds and mammals but very few visitors. I think it's the first reserve I've visited in India where there hasn't been a hoard of guys trying to sell tiger merchandise at the gates. We were really unlucky with the weather but still enjoyed our stay and are planning to go back, next time for longer. A truly great place

We were here for 7 days from 7th Feb to 15th 2014 as part of a 2 week national parks holiday.
It is a 3 1/2hr car drive from Bophal and once you get here it is another world. Very eco friendly but not less luxurious for it.

( If you are looking for international large hotel this is not the place for you)
We arrived and welcomed and rightly assessed that we need our room, refreshments and time to gather ourselves. so our Khim our lovely Nepalese man took us to our cottage . The cottages are all discreetly separate from each other. Our one was very roomy, with dressing room, indoor shower , Loo and an outdoor shower. The water was all solar heated and enough for one good shower and another good shower after a 10 minute wait.
The staff looked after our every need and were delightful and helpful but not intrusive, the laundry was efficient and good.

The food was excellent. A huge choice, it took awhile to choose smaller portions as we were so greedy to taste everything. I needed gluten free and the chefs were charming in finding good alternatives which were interesting and fitted in. No chance of stomach upset here.
I REALLY enjoyed the magic of a different dinning venue each evening outdoors, lit up by lights in the trees or candles artfully placed. One evening it was by the pool and then alternated between various terraces they have around the reception/ dining building.

Amith Mallikarjun and Dhanya Venkatesh were the best Guides/ Naturalists we have had, which is saying something as this is 3rd trip to India for us. Amith was allocated as our ' Guide '. His Knowledge was very wide ranging and his skill in spotting and identifying the wildlife was phenominal. We were there not just to see the 'big five' but birds as well. Personally I fell in love with the Sloth bears, saw one mother with two cubs on her back and watch one slide off and climb up the tree, Although Satpura Tiger reserve does not have the largest number of species, it still had an enormous range and we must have seen the majority of them We did a lot of safaris ranging from boat trips on the reserve, jeep safaris and a walking one. Early starts but beautiful sunrises, breakfasts snacks in incredible locations with in the reserve.
We also, as we had time, did trips around the local farms and saw a silk farm which was interesting so getting a feel for the whole area. Both Amith and Dhanya were wonderful to talk too and endlessly patient with all our questions, delightful company.
There is so much to see be wary about 'ticking off the list' and rushing to somewhere else as there is so much to see and observe if one can just take the time and slow down.

The Pool is great too we were there a little early in the year but I still swam.
This Hotel has an exclusive but friendly feel and I highly recommend it.

I whole heartedly recommend Reni Pani Jungle Lodge. I am a wildlife photographer and I run small group tours all over the world. Reni Pani stands out as one of my favorite eco-lodges in the world. Their accommodation luxurious and the decor is classy - reminiscent of an African lodge but of course with an Indian flare. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the service impeccable and the food was delicious. Aly and Faiz and his team are just incredible. All of my group LOVED being at this lodge. And we had amazing wildlife encounters in the park.

We stayed here for about a week over Christmas 2013. *It was absolutely fantastic.* The lodges are beautiful and spacious, the grounds are lovely, the food is brilliant.... all the staff are simply fantastic. They had a very busy time over Christmas, and the staff worked absolutely flat out, yet still the service was faultless. We had some magical dinners outside. Very thoughtful and caring, and amazing attention to detail. * A very special place.*
Oh, and we saw amazing things in Satpura National Park and the buffer zone........fabulous Baloo sightings. Great to be able to walk, cycle, and canoe in this environment, as well as go on some great journeys in the jeep. Brilliant. A really great team of people. Big thanks to our brilliant Naturalist Dhanya, to Santosh for our special bicycle adventures, and to Kim for the fabulous morning coffee!

This is a very special place, put together obviously with a lot of thought about how guests would be made welcome and comfortable. The cottage we had was a good size, with a comfortable bed. It gets cold at night but the hot water bottles, which get into the bed by magic as you are eating your supper, help. The lodge is in an intermediate zone near the park, and a leopard and civet roam around at night, so once it is dark guests are escorted to and from their rooms. Our naturalist, Dhania, took a lot of trouble with us, and the staff generally were very helpful. Nothing, it seemed, was too much trouble. There is a good sized swimming pool for relaxing at lunchtime. The early mornings are cold - seriously so if you are going in a jeep. The food was excellent, with " brunch" served after the morning drive so that you have a decent break during the middle of the day. I particularly appreciated the chef making sugar-free puddings: I am very used to having to watch other people eating desserts, so this was a rare and unexpected surprise.

I really can not add a lot to those previous comments which extol the virtues of this wonderful lodge. We stayed there for three nights (21st to 24th January 2014). Everything about the lodge is perfect. It is quietly but efficiently managed. The naturalists are terrific. Ours was Amith from whom we learnt so much. We spent so much time with him that I would like to think he has become a friend. That doesn't happen very often. We didn't expect to see tigers at Satpura but he did find sloth bears with cub(s) on two occasions. Amith arranged everything else for us including boat trip and elephant ride. As others have said, we were also very sad to leave.

Room Tip: Ours was no.7 which is one of the closer ones to the bar, lounge and dining areas, library and pool...
