“Everything is big in and around the little house”

'The Little House' is one of the two gîtes owned by the very friendly couple Laurence et Xavier Maglott. It is located in one of the most rural areas of the south of Burgundy: La Vallée des Vaux. The house offers all the comfort and tranquility to enjoy a perfect holiday.

From the gîte the beautiful ‘Vallee des Vaux’ can be explored, with the wine villages on the slope of the Orbise river. You are in the middle of an beautiful environment to make a small or longer walk. Or to cycle over the nearby ‘Voie Verte’. Don’t forget to taste and buy some local, famous Burgundian appellations like Rully, Mercurey or Givry, which here sometimes will be offered for a friendly price.

We are in the south of Burgundy. It means you visit a well-maintained cultural and religious heritage. In the castles and in the Romanesque churches and chapels you will get familiar with the history of one of France's most famous regions.

I have a soft spot for the peaceful and quiet city center of Chalon-sur-Saone about 12 km from ‘The Little House’. Just wander around! The city has some unique museums, a beautiful cathedral and plenty of opportunity to eat or drink. Twice a week there is a nice market with lots of local products.

A stay in ‘The Little House’ will undoubtedly exceed your holiday feeling. It is a perfect place for making you feel utterly at home. With Laurence et Xavier Maglott as perfect hosts, you’ll be motivated only more to explore the south of Burgundy further or to be tempted to have a look in ‘La Vallée des Vaux’ once again.

“Super-agréable séjour en Bourgogne”

The house was large and cool and has a lovely terrace. The owner gave us lots of information before and during our stay about the region. He let us use his bikes and spoiled us with extra's like a bottle of wine, marshmellows and fromboises :-). The village is as quiet as a village can be and is in the midst of the vineyards. There's a public pool nearby, lots of castles in the neighbourhood and if everything feels just a little too quiet, you can always go to the market in Chalon a few kilometers further.

“A great gite with an owner who really cares that you enjoy your stay”
Reviewed June 16, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The gite was large (for 2 people) spotlessly clean with everything you could need for comfort and a huge variety of information leaflets guides and maps provided by Xavier who took time to visit and offer advice on places you should visit in the area.
A well equipped kitchen, large main room with 2 sofas a downstairs w.c, a large bedroom with a bathroom/shower and a lovely terrace that was perfect for eating breakfast in the morning sunshine.
We had a lovely time and certainly will book again

“Enchanting”
Reviewed December 10, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

In October, for the last week of our European holiday, we stayed at Gite La Petite Maison, in the peaceful and pretty wine village of Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu.
The gite, an intriguing 19th century architectural experience, is extremely comfortable and well appointed for self catering.
The location was perfect, being quiet and picturesque - away from traffic - but within five minutes of a neighbouring town with supermarket, restaurants and bakery. It was ideal as a home base for the week.
Xavier, our host was warm and welcoming, and not only maintains an excellent library of maps and brochures of the area, but was always available for information and suggestions for excursions to the many attractions in the heart of Burgundy.

“Charming gite”
Reviewed April 21, 2015 for a stay in October 2013

We have stayed in this gite on two occasions, first with family in 2008 and then again 2013.
Gite is very clean and was a wonderful place to use as a base. We did many days trips and would come back at night and cook our evening meal. We also did walks from there to other villages. A beautiful quiet area amongst the vineyards.
One tip would be to stock up in nearby towns for groceries as there are no food shops, only a bakery and butcher within walking distance. Host was very friendly and helpful and very obliging

“Charming and in a great wine growing location”
Reviewed April 18, 2015 for a stay in October 2014

This has been another return visit to this convenient and comfortable holiday Gite. The countryside is quintessential Burgundy and its proximity to the wine growing towns of the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte d'Or make it a perfect place to tour the area. Our host was always available with lots of useful information and advice about the area and, while it is in a rural area, it is not far to a bakery (10 minute walk), tasting rooms and wine cellars in the town and all around, a supermarket (3 km), restaurants (3 km). The location is very picturesque. There are a number of scenic and interesting walks that set out from the town or close by and drives that will take you through vineyards, wine towns, along canals and across expansive views of the wine growing hills. The gite itself is comfortable and well equipped, there is lots of space, it is warm and it has free WiFi. What else can you ask for? It is an ideal place for a couple, a family or four friends who don't mind sharing a very large upstairs bedroom space.
