The resort is in the early stage of development...Away from civilization amidst dense forest......The attraction is the mountain stream adjacent............. crystal clear water where you can play with your kids in privacy..... The staff will show you the safe places...... Ismail showed us the the track and helped us with life jackets as well.... serene environment with only sounds from the forest and the stream..... Food is home made in the kerala way, tasty and served with passion... everyone Mr.Prasannan 'the owner'- Ismail ' the manager'- and Suseelan all take part in serving the food... Moreover they ask for your requirement then and now..... you can say - that kind of hospitality you would never find anywhere......Fruits and vegetables are from their own form...Rooms are spacious and clean.......... You must keep the wire-net doors closed after dark otherwise all kinds of insects from the forest find their way in to the room....

I just stayed one night in the resort, and I admit I was sad to not have stayed longer.
A three night minimum stay is necessary to connect with the place, merged into a wild natural scenery with a river running below.
The owner, Arjun, was a great host, very attentive, caring and thoughtful for the time I stayed there. My three meals were rich and varied, and I could not finish.
The room I was given is very spacious with a nice balcony.
After showing me around the property and surroundings, he invited me to join him to the river and we bathed in crystal clear pure water.
I hope to come there during winter time, since the temperature will be more clement.
Of course, as other costumers said, this is a tranquil nature place, and those looking for this energy will be satisfied.

Room Tip: There are no shops nearby..so ensure you carry whatever you want from the shops near Nilambur town..

Great Hornbill Resorts is truly one of its kind. The best thing is that they know what we look for in their resort. It is a great way to spend your time away from work. The thing I loved the most here is the sound of running stream, it’s very soothing and takes you to a different world altogether. The property location overlooking the natural stream is its best charm. In my opinion this resort is a must visit for any "nature lover". Rooms are nice and spacious but not fancy. Room services were good and timely. I also loved the way food was served, all homely and healthy meal. The restaurant is open, I could feel the freshness in the atmosphere while I had my food. My niece too had a lovely time playing around. There was never a dull moment. Stay was quiet, relaxing and memorable-Just what we needed as a family. I would love to go back again and recommend it to those who look forward to relax and unwind.

It was our much awaited family vacation and it turned out to be one of the best we have ever had.

If you are looking for a peaceful break, away from the rush, and right in the green, vibrant nature, this is where you should be headed. Located a bit over 10kms from the Nilambur town, you will find yourself in this lovely resort surrounded by Western Ghats. The resort itself is set amidst is surrounded by rubber plantation like a warm green blanket.

Though, is still under construction, we got well appointed rooms overlooking a stream from the back verandha. Just sitting and watching the rain in the verandha with a hot tea in hand was a lovely experience. For shutter bugs like me, there are plenty of opportunities to photograph. Right from the wild plants and insects, to the ever changing clouds, it was nature's own photo shoot.

Though there were plenty of insects outside in the night, the full length, floor to ceiling glass windows and the protective net door outside kind of formed a barrier between us and them. Going to bed in the night and waking up to the sounds of nature in itself was rejuvenation.

There was plenty of space for the kids to play and explore nature safely. There is a smaller stream which runs within the property which gave the kids a safer alternative to have a fun session than going to the stream which was unfortunately under spate because of the sudden down pours the previous couple of days.

Food was homely and tasty. Prepared by the staff in the resort. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly and always at hand to help you out have a great time. I guess the one thing which you will find quite different at this place is that there is no professional / mechanical, veiled smile. Only a ready, spontaneous and friendly smile.

There are a couple of places of interest if you are staying here. We did get an opportunity to visit the Connolly Plot, one of the oldest teak plantations. Just looking at the huge trees in this plantation is a humbling experience. This plantation has the biggest teak tree in the world. The plantations is about 30 minutes drive from the resort.

Another major attraction is the Teak Museum, believed to be the only one of its kind. The museum is about 30 minutes again from the resort. It gives you a glimpse of the teak as a tree and its uses. Some of the exhibits there are amazing! There is also a botanical park in here which has some wonderful flora. You could see some of the forgotten / lesser known plants with amazing medicinal effects here. There is a small collection of orchids as well.

The one place we had to skip because of paucity of time was the Adyanpara waterfall. I hope to keep my date with this waterfall sometime soon. :)

Overall, if you are looking for a lazy / slow paced vacation or to spend time with your family, or just want to cool off in the lap of the nature to rejuvenate, this is the place you need be at!

Words of caution:
1. Be sure to keep the insect screens of the rooms closed in the evenings to keep the insects out.
2. Never enter the stream without speaking to the hotel staff. They know the safe spots and the best times to enjoy the swim. Better be safe than sorry.
3. Be sure to make your reservations in advance.

Thanks
Sanjay

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have the best views. Be sure to make reservations in advance.

It's a home away from home, but with a difference - we are in the lap of nature. There is nature everywhere. This resort is almost like a valley which is surrounded by mountains (the Western ghats). We can savor nature and the unpolluted virgin nature around the resort rejuvenates our senses. We can see (the natural beauty), smell (the fragrance of the plants and trees), hear (the chirping of birds and the roaring noise of the gushing stream flowing beside the resort), taste (the fresh fruits, the delicious water of the stream), and feel (the relaxed sensation during and after a bath in the stream and the chill gentle breeze) nature of this resort. We can inhale unpolluted fresh air. If we have good binoculars we can see variety of birds. We can simply lie down at the balcony or open the curtains of the room and hear the sound of the stream (the natural pool) all the 24 hours which is something unique to this resort. The stream is crystal clear. My hubby, being a dentist always crave for a vacation trip with myself and our son because of his busy schedule atleast once a year. This year we have selected the right location. The hospitality is excellent. Homely food is served here. So no problem of indigestion and other related illness. We can get personl care in this resort. The owner's father Mr. Prassanan sees that the guest is satisfied in each and every aspect. He considers the guests as his own family members and always ready to lend a helping hand if need arise. The care taker Mr. Soman took the pain of coming all the way from Nilambur to Shoranur to send us off. He is always at our call and disposes his duty sincerely. The nature lovers can really really refresh themselves when they stay here for 2 or 3 days. The more days we stay here, the more refreshed we can be.
It's an emerging resort and those 'so called' persons who expect uniformed chefs, varities of modern food items, etc., may not be satisfied with this resort. But those uniformed chefs salute us or wishes us as they are bound to do. Here one can experience the 'real hospitality'.The resort is a few kilometres away from the town.
The Great Hornbill Resort is an ideal resort for a family vacation where our mind and body are rejuvenated to the fullest.
