We stayed here to attend a wedding about 8 miles away and it was on the recommended list. The photos of the old building are a complete con as you do stay in what look like old people's bungalows. To be honest, if I hadn't seen the image of the old manor house, I would probably have not been so disappointed.

To make matters worse, there was nowehere to get any food from AT ALL on site and we were in the middle of nowhere. Thus began a costly stay of taxis just to get lunch and dinner.

We booked primarily for the tennis and spa. I didn't see the spa but the tennis courst were average; there were holes all round which let the ball through.

It wasn't cheap and although the breakfast was excellent, it was a rotten old stay really.

We stayed at New Place last weekend for a wedding. The rooms were fairly average, the bed was comfortable, the shower was excellent and it was very quiet. We stayed in a non refurbished room and having seen the others it is definitely worth asking for a refurbished one. The grounds are beautiful as is the manor house.

We stayed for 2 nights and on the Sunday, the bars and restaurants did not open at all during the day, when we returned at 10 pm everything was closed again! As the hotel is in the middle of nowhere this is not ideal. I got the impression that it is run as a function venue with rooms available for guests more than as a hotel.

The pool and gym were very quiet and clean and the spa sounded very nice, but again it was not open at the weekend.

The staff were incredibly helpful during our stay, when we asked what there was to do in the area they produced a folder listing pubs, restaurants and activities in the vicinity.

Overall, this is a good place to stay after a wedding or other function, but I would not recommend it for a weekend away.

if the main house is booked for a wedding you are banished to a bar in an outbuilding with grumpy staff and no stock!
very poorly treated during our stay and the staff have no idea of customer service.

I stayed here for a wedding (I am from the US). The rooms are a bit shabby but tidy. The staff is excellent. The hotel you see on the web site is actualy the main building with no rooms for rent. You stay in the back in dorm style courtyard rooms. There is complementary coffee/tea and internet. For the special price (GBP 65 per night per the wedding deal) I was pleased. The rooms were not well ventilated (windows only opened a bit) but not bad. I had a few displeased friends at the size of the rooms - but again this is not the US and things are just smaller. The staff really make this a great welcoming place. A taxi ride from Freham or Botley will be about GBP 11 to 15. A taxi to Heathrow is GBP 55. Very pretty grounds, cute croque lawn. I did not try the spa services but from the brochure htey looked very thourogh. Yummy complimentary breakfast. Overall a very satisfied customer.
