“a lovely evening away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

we stayed here one night for a family wedding and a lovely time was had by all.
A beautiful setting in the forest with nice gardens and lawn area and a sunny afternoon meant photos could be taken outside in the grounds.
the rooms are set in the grounds motel style but our room was warm, cosy and nicely decorated. The bathroom was on the small side but the shower had grea water pressure-always a bonus in a hotel- and the bathroom soaps and shampoo were plentiful.
The flat screen tv was set in a small recess which meant we couldnt turn it on or change channels unless we got out of bed.
the food at the wedding reception was hot, plentiful, tasty and well presented and similarly breakfast next morning was the same.
We would definately return for another night away.
The staff were also very friendly and attentive.

We got a great deal with the advance purchase, but would still have been happy if I had paid the full rate. The staff at this hotel are very attentive and friendly as are the managers who were always walking about asking if everything was ok. Both dinner and breakfast were very good, with a good choice of food on the 3 course menu, and the buffet breakfast. Rooms were separate from the main building but were only a short walk away.Overall we had a lovely weekend and will definitely stay here again. A big thank you to all the staff and management.

Great setting, great food, great staff and great room.

Had a little Valentines break and found the hotel to be top class, the setting is beautiful and the grand building and dining room made for a lovely meal and for a top class hotel it didnt break the bank. The room was well presented, clean and warm, everything you would expect.

I would highly recommend and will definitely go back again.

If the manager should happen to read this please thank your staff, they made the trip.

Thank you

PS The breakfast was great!

This hotel is 5 minutes off the M27 & was easy to find with Sat Nav, which is lucky as the web-site directions were rubbish! The rooms are in little blocks away from the main buildings & restaurant. The double room we had was ok (Premier inn standard) & the on suite included shampoo etc & had a reasonably sized bath. Tea & coffee making facilities were in the room. Freeview TV (no satellite) The pool was good too (take a £1 coin for the lockers) & included a Jacuzzi.
The restaurant was a bit small, so you needed to book a time to dine. The menu was a bit strange with two soups included in the starters & lots of fish for mail dishes (no chicken dishes). Steak was available for a £5 supplement! Breakfast was a bit of a “bun fight” as they did not have enough tables or waiters. Overall a good weekend, but not outstanding.

As the previous reviewer has noted, De Vere Venues hotels are fantastic value if you book in advance during their sales periods. We were pleased we choose New Place, which has a main house designed by Lutyens and a wonderful 1630s dining room (with a magnificent fireplace and ceiling) where we ate breakfast.
As with other De Vere Venues, most guest bedrooms are in functional annex blocks away from the country house, and if you are not expecting this you could be disappointed. However, the furnishing and decoration were fine, and our room was well cleaned. My dodgy back appreciated the mattress topper and I had a very good night's sleep. The indoor pool is on the small side, as are the changing rooms, but there was enough room to swim.
Breakfast was well up to standard, with eggs cooked to order and coffee brought promptly. We didn't plan to eat dinner there but the menu looked fairly bland.
It was a pleasure to meet Liam, one of the managers, while walking round the grounds. He was very enthusiastic about New Place, showed us the way round the grounds and sports pitches, and gave us a booklet on the history of the house.
Overall an enjoyable stay and 5 stars for great value for money.

We stayed at New Place for Valentines which was great value as we got it on a deal. I am not sure we would have been so happy if we had paid full price. The place looked fantastic as we drove up the driveway. What a shame we weren't staying in the big house. In the dark we did find the reception eventually. We had a lovely room (chalet) but it had something of a motel about it and there were some strange noises through the night. It sounded as if we were behind the laundry service. There was a great information leaflet in the room highlighting the facilities but what a shame it failed to mention the gym and swimming pool which were not that close to get to. Our room was very clean and well presented. The bathroom was a good size and nicely decorated with a lovely hot and powerful shower.

Normally when I get an email saying "Special - £19 a night" I suspect there is 1 room at this rate & its bound to be the smelly, pokey room over the kitchens. However, I'm delighted that this time I bothered to click through, check the rates & call up.

The kids had been badgering us that they wanted to come and stay in a hotel (as we always go to apartments on holiday) so, as it was Mrs Meso's birthday, I gave in and said I'd look into booking 2 rooms in a nice hotel. It took a bit of negotiation on 2 rooms (originally only 1 available at a £39 rate for this hotel - I haggled & got 2 :-)) so we turned up on the most miserable of weekends for a Saturday afternoon/evening stay.

Reception slightly hidden but friendly reception staff who showed us to our rooms - we had 108/9 which were upstairs in the block nearest the swimming pool & had connecting doors. Everything properly set-up (one double one twin) & the rooms were very good - I suspect recently refurbed - with great power-showers, comfy beds & smart "exec" decor. Quick unpack & to the swimming pool & jacuzzi which were great. Changed then to dinner - which was in a beautiful dining room - ironically we were the only family / group of 4 so we had the best table in the window. Food was excellent - range of choices for set 3 course meal for £29 - and the kids sausages were pronounced "the best I've ever had" by junior MESO. We finished it all - truly stuffed - and had a great nights sleep.

Morning it was still raining but we managed a small walk under the umbrella - when it doesn't rain it would be a fabulous place to jog/walk around.

Breakfast was typical buffet but the kids loved it. There had been a wedding in the function room the night before (but didn't disturb us at all) so breakfast was rammed - but food kept coming and the kids loved it.

All in all an excellent stay for the price. Only things we could fault were a dead light bulb, dodgy TV reception in 108 and paper napkins at breakfast. Bedrooms don't have a great view and you do have to go outside to get everywhere (not ideal when its chucking it down). Otherwise it is great - we'll go again in Spring when (fingers crossed) it doesn't pee down all weekend!

Room Tip: 108/9 family rooms were great
