This trip was a wonderful way to experience the Allagash. Dave Conley is a great guide: good-natured, organized, and experienced, to put it mildly. He's an excellent teacher and put this timid novice to ease on the rapids. He has an abundant knowledge of the history of the Allagash region and is happy to share it. The group was made up of couples, solos, friends, and relatives (cousins; father and son). It was such a treat to be out in the wilderness with them and Dave.

This was an awesome trip! The guides were completely knowledgeable and outfitted; the training they did to prepare us for the rapids was excellent; the food which they cooked over the open fire every day was fantastic; and the wisdom they shared about being in the wilderness was priceless. The river system is gorgeous, the wildlife is plentiful, and the water is surprisingly warm in August. Rigging the boats together to form a flotilla and using one of their camping tarps as a sail helped us get across Long Lake (a long stretch with no current) during a 90 degree and sunny day. That was a nice touch!

It was strenuous, and some of us had our moments of fatigue, but the guides were very responsive to the varying needs and physical abilities of the different participants on the trip. Highly recommend!

I went on the Allagash River outing with my son and mother. They represented the youngest and oldest in our group. Our guides, Dave and Tammy were beyond outstanding. True stewards of the wilderness, knowledgeable, safe and great to get to know. We had a wonderful time, improved our canoeing skills (which were minimal to none at the start) and enjoyed being together, surrounded by beauty and good company. Great wildlife viewing, including several moose, bald eagles, egrets, etc. Would love to repeat the experience again.

A great way to experience the beauty and serenity of the Allagash River. If you really want to see the wildlife of Maine, this is the way to do it - saw 6 moose and dozens of eagles, loons, heron, etc. We talked to friends who spent a week in Baxter State Park and never saw a moose. Our trip had folks with a wide variety of canoeing skills and our guides, Dave and Tammi, were very experienced and patient and did a great job of teaching and guiding while letting everyone have fun. Our biggest surprise was how good the food was. Definitely recommend this outdoor adventure with Canoe the Wild.
