I came to the Sonne for many years on business visits. Now my wife and I stay on holiday vsits to the area.
A family run hotel in the middle of the town, it is also just three minutes walk from the railway station, which has frequent services to Basel and Zuerich
Rooms can be simple (in the old part of the hotel) or more modern in the "new wing".
Staff are really helpful and friendly and the rooms spotlessly clean.
Heating is provided for the colder months, but there is no aircon. However, having the window open is really not an issue as Sissach is not normally noisy at night.
Breakfast is an adequate Swiss buffet (though not as large as those often found in the larger chain hotels).
Food in the restaurant is excellent Swiss cooking and there is also the Stuebli, where you can enjoy a drink and a lighter meal.
On the downside, the restaurant is now closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays (which is a pity as the food is so good) - but there are other restaurants readily available in the immediate area and each room has its own "late key" for the front door.
We keep coming back here simply because we enjoy it.
However, those who prefer multi-national chain hotels might find it too small
