“Stylish and cosy, instantly feels like home, great value”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

Originally we booked for 4 nights but stayed 8. Nathalie with her husband are amazing hosts who immediately made us feel like at home and helped with all the needs and arrangements (incl the unexpected ones) a traveller might have. The bungalows are cosy and very spacious for Thai standards, everything was neat and clean. Location is ideal for exploring the island with shops, restaurants and bike rentals in the neighbourhood and Lonely beach and Bang Bao village a 5 min ride away (by taxi or bike which I definitely recommend to rent to explore the island). The eclectic music selection in the lobby/restaurant creates just adds to a beautiful vibe of this place.

Chose this place for its smallness and quietness and boutique style and weren't disappointed. Matrasses a little hard, but the rest of the spacious bungalow was perfect.
Its the first accommodation to the left when arriving in Bai Lan from the ferry. Not directly at the seaside, so most of the time, we went to the (artificial) sand beach in front of the Mercure Hotel/Lisca Beach, around 15 mins walk from the hotel. But you can take a scooter or taxi to other places for food or beach easily too.
Good service too, also for e.g. excursions or tours

Lazy Republique was great as it is away from the noise of Lonely beach, but close enough to walk there. The food and coffee at the place was great, and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and spacious, with a modern design- I would definitely recommend this place. The only criticism I would have is that the beds are extremely hard.

I stayed at Lazy Republique with my partner for 12 days back in January because of the good reviews I had read here... all I can say is that our experience was far better than anything I could have imagined.

The resort itself consists of just 4 bungalows, a restaurant, and a rooftop terrace... it's extremely peaceful, set in beautifully landscaped gardens, and in a wonderful jungle setting. It's situated in a small village (Bai Lan) with a few supermarkets, massage, restaurants, etc, but no bars or clubs, so you won't be bothered by anyone partying at night.

The bungalows themselves are fantastic. Very minimalistic, polished concrete floors, a very spacious king sized bed, a small private terrace with lounge chairs, and a perfectly functional ensuite bathroom. The rooms have only the basic necessities (great air-con, bar fridge, clean towels/sheets every few days. There is no TV, but honestly, it would be sad to waste time watching TV in such a magical place. For the price (800 baht), the bungalows are exceptionally good value.

The centrepiece of the resort is the restaurant - Nathalie always has great chillout music playing, the food is first class (and well priced), and the service is always prompt and friendly. The set breakfast (just 100 baht per person, when paying with the room) was my favourite part of the day... eggs however you like, ham bacon, fruit, fresh toast with exquisite jam, juice, and the best part, bottomless french coffeeeeeee. For dinner, I tried most things on the menu, and was always impressed, and always wanted more. I especially like that the food is traditional, and not watered down according to tourist's tastes (however, if you ask for non-spicy, they'll be happy to accommodate you).

Nathalie and Leong, the owners, are the nicest people you could hope to meet. They'll bend over backwards to help you, whether it be an issue at the resort, or advice about the island. They've lived there for a long time and know the island well, and were always enthusiastic about suggesting places to visit, how to get around, beaches to chill out on, and masseurs to go to. They were also helpful about telling us how much to expect to pay for certain things, which was much appreciated. As well as being lovely, they're also very efficient, and will get on top of anything you need booked or reserved.

Lazy Republique is not ideal for people wanting to walk 20 meters to the beach (it's an easy 15 minute walk to Lonely Beach, but taxis are cheap and plentiful), people wanting to party every day, families with children (the rooms have only one kingsize bed), or travellers who might freak out about seeing an occasional gecko in their room (you'll see them, because you're in the jungle!). However, if you're a nice independent traveller on a budget, who appreciates peace and quiet, good food, nice company, in a beautifully chic jungle setting, then this is the place for you!

Thank you again Nathalie and Leong - we hope to see you next year!

Room Tip: take a beer up to the terrace after dinner and gaze at the stars - incredible!

We didn't stay in the bungalows but had breakfast and dinners for many days here. The food is very, very tasty especially the lava chocalate dessert is to die for.
The owners are very friendly, the setting in a big garden is also very nice, so is the soft background music.
The free cafe refills are a big plus. Highly recommended!

Modern style bungalow, clean with large bathroom, fridge and quiet AC.
There is no shower gel and shampoo as 3 stars hotel but the price is a lot cheaper too!
There is some mosquitos and small geckos sometimes as in the nature and tropical country but nothing dangerous and no pollution!
The area is very quiet with a large garden, relaxing atmosphere. You have a small beach around and lonely beach too 15 min walking.
Very good value for the money, the owner are very helpful ,
and you can enjoy a fine kitchen too.
I really feel welcome and at home ,I will back one day!

The owners were friendly. There is no beach nearby. Rooms are big but doesnt have important thing like closet and hangers. Bed is uncomfortable for it seems like it will collapse anytime(they place a piece of wood in the middle part under the bed). The internet was only working in the restaurant which was so annoying coz you can't surf in the rooms. No TV and fridge. They dont clean and people living there making fire. Breakfast was good tasting. full of giant mosquitoes inside the room. This place is nothing speial. Its always unfair when reviews are really good which promotes a place which is not good and worthless.
