“Pretty Pub outside”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

We visited the Jolly Farmer for a meal on a Wednesday evening. It was not busy so the service was good and the waitress very helpful. I had fish which was quite good and my husband had spare ribs which he enjoyed. I would go there again if in the area.

There is plenty of parking.

Lovely looking place and very nice staff, helpful and courteous, decided not to eat in the restaurant as prices seemed a little on the high side. The room was a throw back to the 80's in decor, not ensuite, shower in the corner, they must have run out of paint as the woodwork was only half painted, huge chunk missing out of the mirror, tea making facilities but you bolied the kettle on the carpet. Toilet was shared down the corridor due to space in the small rooms you would expect from an older rural building like this.
Would have made a better double than a twin room, a lamp shade on the bare 'hot' bulb bedside light and a fan would have been nice.
With a double bed and a little money spent, a through clean and they have a winner, as it is would not wish to return, at £85 a night its expensive for the facilites.
Compere to other hotels in this price range they need to up their game.

The Jolly Farmer used to be our pub of choice for birthdays, anniversaries and other family gatherings. We've been going here for over 30 years. It was our local when we were students! Visited recently for Sunday lunch for a birthday. Service was terrible. Waiting staff were great, but we waited & waited & waited. Took an hour just to get starters. Excuse was "Sorry, we've got a big party in". Would have been OK if the food was as special as it used to be, but now it's just standard 'pub grub'. Unfortunately, prices are still pretty high, but the food doesn't live up to it. Crab cake starter was a tiny bought-in crab cake, some packet salad and a pot of chilli dipping sauce. A 'Steak Burger' main course turned out to be a couple of supermarket burgers on an open bun with some mediocre salad leaves. Used to love this place and recommended to anyone who would listen. Very sad. Hope they sort themselves out.
