“Stay at Viamede for Aug. long weekend - Roy's”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Cabin was small for four people. They did not have picture of our actual unit, which they need to do so we can better understand what we get. Pictures we saw were much nicer than what we got. Unit was worn down and we were back off the lake. I was expecting a lot more for the price. Beds, sofas, fridge etc.... were all run down and need of replacement. Facilities of pool, bar, restaurant and water toys were all great and good value. We mentioned our concerns to Vanessa at the end of the stay and she worked with us to improve or comfort level for next visit.

Dear Robert,

Thank you very much for your comments. We are indeed constantly working on improving our facilities, and hopefully, next year, we will have you in the Mount Julian cottages, which you liked better.

See you next year!

We just spent the last 5 days at Viamede and had a great time. The weather was awesome and we enjoyed many activities on site. All of our meals were on location and we had two dinners at Mount Julian and we were very happy with the service and quality of the food. You really can't beat the location and the view from most of the rooms which are lakefront. Ben continues to be focused on the customer experience at this resort and we were happy to back for our second visit this summer.

Positives,
Cottage 402 overlooking the lake, just stunning.
Use of facilities on lake v good.
Dog friendly and great walking trails.
V friendly staff.
Best wings from pub i have had in a long time.
Good pub service
Gardens well maintained.

Negatives,
Lots of redec needed to paintwork everywhere, decks need fixing up.
Ceiling times in cottage badly stained.
Cottage kitchen needed a good clean before we could use.
Poor breakfast .. service and food... poor buffet top up, no control over seating... buy a couple of new toasters!!
Spa, basically talked out of it by receptionist (?)
Beach small and lots of "weeds" needs a good clean up.
Price, simply not good value for money.

However we went for a complete wind down and relax... that's what we got. May go back.

Room Tip: Get a cottage on lake and negotiate a price!!

What a shame about Viamede. It enjoys a beautiful location, good food and lots to do. The day before I left I overheard the owner "Ben" yelling at a couple of employees. I was blown away that the owner would be so abusive to folks who count on him for work. If Viamede is purchased by a new owner I would go back but never again under this owner.

Dear Carrie,

Thank you for your comments. It sounds like you generally enjoyed your stay, but also that I was yelling at staff. I generally don't yell, and so I am surprised by this, but I do apologise for it.

If you could e-mail me directly and let me know who I was yelling at, I would really like to find out about what this may have been.

Next time you are here, please introduce yourself - it sounds like you deserve an apology.

Cheers!

I stayed at Viamede Resort in July for a Sunday getaway with my girlfriend. The intention was to get out of the city and enjoy some complete relaxation on the lake, without chores and real-life creeping in as it would have had we stayed home.

We arrived at Viamede around 11am and were greeted by the very friendly front desk staff. Even though check-in isn't until 3pm (we were planning to just enjoy the resort amenities for the day), they promptly sent us off to our room which was ready and waiting.
It was a really nice room! We had a deluxe room with a king bed and a private balcony overlooking the lake. Windows on two sides of the room so we could look out towards the cottages or out to the pool and lake. The king bed was huge and so comfortable after a day outside.

We spent the day trying out many of the free activities the hotel offers - including a spin on the stand-up paddleboards, a dip in the pool, a swim at the beach, and a hike along the nature trails. There were several other things we could have tried out, like canoeing and kayaking, tennis, shuffleboard, disc golf and other sports, but we were feeling a little too lazy for those.

The thing that completely blew me away about Viamede was the food! We ate lunch at the Boathouse Pub on their patio. Now we expected pub food, but what we got was pub food reimagined. It was like a gourmet interpretation of pubfood. Later that afternoon we came back to the pub for pre-dinner drinks and tried some delicious signature cocktails. They also have a good selection of beer, from the mainstream to some smaller craft breweries. We had dinner at the 1885 dining room and the food was amazing again. Beautifully prepared, a good wine list, amazing chocolate and cheesecake desserts and great service.

We were bummed to get up early on Monday morning to check out and head back to work, but had such a good night's sleep it wasn't really that bad. Can't wait to go back and maybe try out a cottage next time!

HI Ben
Jo-Ann and I just wanted to say thank you for the free surprise lunch that you offered your patrons during the blackout in July. It came as a big surprise and was very much appreciated.

Then again, during the long weekend in August, you offered everyone with yet, another free lunch. What a treat!!!

We didn't want to miss the opportunity to thank you very much, for your hospitality!

Sincerely
Shirl and Jo

We visited Viamede for a few days, as we do every year. This year was different - they had a resort dog, Maggie.

Aside from her being cute, they adopted her from a rescue. She's epileptic, but the sweetest dog we have ever seen. Our kids loved her. One of our kids has autism, and Maggie was his constant companion. He just sat with her all day. She rolled over for him and just got pet all day.

Obviously, the service and activities are great, but it's Maggie that really deserves credit.
