Reviewed September 17, 2010

We stayed at the Hilton for three nights as part of our honeymoon around Portugal. Man! This place was awesome upon arriving at the hotel. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
- Extremely clean and new (built in 2007) and very modern
- Excellent staff and service - they really go out of their way to make you feel special
- Rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable - we were in the 1bdr suite, and the room had separate showers and tub. A washer/dryer, full kitchen, fridge, cooking utensils, etc. was also part of the room (had a balcony with tables and chairs too).
- Restaurant and bar - the buffet is amazing - they change it up every night. We were there two of the three nights and was very impressed both times! Breakfast (free) is served in there too - simply amazing with tons of food and choices. Stuff is even labeled with nutritional guides. As for the bar, very nice ambiance; the pool side bar also offers food and drinks - very very tasty mixed drinks and cocktails. Try the mojito for example - one of the best I've had.
- Spa - a must do - very reasonably priced, good facility, connected to the hotel, and good value for the various services. Our 1 hr treatment for massage, facial, and swedish shower only costed 75 euros. Otherwise, you'll have to pay 35 euros to only use the facility - better off getting something done there first.
- pool - I think there are five different pools - ranging from the kiddy pools to the large general pool to an adult only pool. indoors and out, lots of choices. Go to them all!
- Parking - indoor underground parking is free! Tons of space and easy to use
- Other hotel amenities - hotel also has a snooker table and a gift shop
- Private beach - Hilton has their own beach, what's there to complain about? :)
- Fitness center - descent size with everything you need

Cons:
- location: slightly off away from the action, but I actually like it. It's about a 15-20 min walk to the marina area or you can always take the shuttle. I recommend renting a car since that's the best way to see the Algarve
- pool: can get pretty crowded on Saturday. We didn't see that many kids except for Saturday afternoon, but that's expected even in early September. It didn't bother me though.
- Hours: pool hours are relatively short (9 am to 8 pm)? Something like that. Hotel gift shop closes at 6 or 7 pm too - very early.
- Shuttle: we had a car, but we did see a lot of people waiting in line - but then again, better than not having a shuttle

Other than that, this is an amazing hotel. I highly recommend you staying here during your trip to the Algarve or Vilamoura.

Stayed here during the 1st week of September and had a great stay here.
The room we stayed in was a decent size and clean, pools are great and only 1 day struggled to find a lounger by the pool.
Shuttle service is good and is needed due to the location. Costs about 5 euros to get back from the marina at night.
As mentioned by somebody else the only was to get to the pools seems to be through 1 of the restaurants which is a bit strange(if you are staying the reception side of the building).
Received a birthday cake and champagne on the 1st day at the hotel even though birthday was a week before, this was really nice and unexpected.
Breakfast at the hotel was good with plenty of choice and lunch at the hotel was decent although slightly expensive. Most of the staff were very polite and friendly.
The were lots of children at the hotel but this was'nt a problem for us - we don't mind a bit of noise by the pool.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Vilamoura.

Just returned after 6 fantastic days at the Hilton with my boyfriend! Unlike what a previous reviewer stated I found the hotel and rooms spotlessly clean! We had absolutely no problem strolling out for a sun lounger after 9 and many around the pool were still free at 10, I do appreciate however that kids were back to school so it probably wasn't as busy as in August.

The staff were excellent however we arrived at 10am and had to wait until 3 for our room so we got a few things from our case and headed to the pool.

The shuttle service to the beach and marina was very good, there was usually quite a queue before 7 heading to the marina but they run 2 buses at this time which usually accommodates everyone waiting.

We walked to and from the marina a couple of times, there is a lovely park which runs down the middle of the road so there is no need to walk on the main road and we found the walk very enjoyable! The concierge is very helpful and provided a map of the area.

The breakfast buffet is fantastic everything you could want! We had lunch here most days which was also very good.

I would certainly return to this hotel however keep to the more off peak would time of year such as September to avoid the issues other reviewers experienced.

I have never been in a 5* hotel that did not have an a la carte restaurant open every night.
No information in rooms other than trying to sell the adjoining apartments. That seemed to be the top priority in this hotel. No direct access to the swimming pool other than through a restaurant or bar. A very poor experience.

We stayed at the Hilton Vilamoura between 25th August and 4th September having got a great deal with Sovereign.
We have stayed in Vilamoura before and this time my husband and 15 year old son wanted to play a couple of rounds of golf so the Hilton was perfectly placed between the Pinhal and Old Course.
Most of the previous reviews here are correct in terms of the positive and negative. This is a nice hotel, clean, with friendly staff and lovely rooms.
It's design is a little 'tacky' in a Disney way and I agree that the pool area is too small for the number of guests staying here (full in our first week)
I liked the reception area, I didn't like the 4 hour wait for our room on check in. If you have a flight that gets you to this hotel before 3pm then make sure you have sun cream and a bikini on the top of your case so that you can at least while away the hours by the pool.
I liked the breakfast, I did not like that the egg cheif can't boil an egg (one morning they were almost raw) and the evening meal was not worth the 29 euro price per person. Fortunately we had a free upgrade from B & B to include our evening meal, so as it was free it was OK but the choice was poor compared to other hotels we have stayed in.
I liked the Rubi cocktail bar where the service was friendly and the entertainment was really quite good. I didn't like being surrounded by young children watching the 'Chipmunks' loudly on a portable DVD next to us.
And so on... there is so much that is 'nice' about this hotel but it does attract families with young children and there is little escape because the complex is too small.
It lacks the ambiance and sophistication that should come with it's 5 stars and feels a bit 'corporate'.
I knew when I booked it that it was a little way out of Vilamoura but the shuttle bus was fine and a taxi only cost aroun 5 or 6 euro back.
I expected children too as we were holidaying in August but I didnt expect for us to be on top of one another most of the time.
The pool area is gated and locked (which feels a little bizare) so a que forms at around 8.45 before the pool is unlocked at 9. On my first morning I whitnessed people running as the gates opened and throwing themselves and their belongings onto beds to 'reserve' them. Not my idea of a relaxing start to the day.
The Hilton Vilamoura is in a great position for golf and the courses are lovely as is the golf range. But the hotel claims to have a 'golf academy'. It doesn't. it has a simulator which costs 40 euro per hour and is not woth the money. There is an arcade, tucked away downstairs, for the older children and a snooker room but the under 16's can't use it without an adult.
If you have small children then this hotel is probably fine but I didn't feel it was 5 star. In my opinion, Vilamoura offers much better accomodation for your money. Try the Tivoli or push the boat out and go to The Lakes instead.

We (2 adults + 3.5 yr old daughter) stayed here for a week from 21st to 28th August. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Great European hotel. I've given it 5 stars as I think it deserves it on a Eurpoean rating. Ok, its not in the same 5* world class standard as a Dubai hotel but for Europe its excellent. We chose the Hilton because of the positive reviews on this site and I have to agree, I would return. Ok, so it was School holidays and the hotel was absolutely dominated by families with young children. This suited us perfectly. The main pool had a great atmosphere. There is an adults only pool which we had a look at and its good that the hotel caters for this. There is also a childrens pool, a teenagers pool and the use of the pool complex in the Aparthotels within the hotel grounds.
To be honest, I agree with a couple of other reviews here, had we been a couple only I think the main pool complex would have drove us mad due to the amount of children, but for us it was great. We preferred the beach anyway, always do. Anyway, heres our bullet point review:-
Drive into Vilamoura - Typically Med, a little grotty, undeveloped but you come to appreciate that funnily enough.
Drive up to Hotel - Modern, new, welcoming, impressive.
Lobby, Check in - Smooth, efficient, friendly.
Room - Great. One of the reasons we chose it. Spacious, climate controlled, nice facilites and storage space, great bathroom, shower, well decorated, very clean.
Breakfast - Good waiter/waitress service, friendly, good selection of food which was of a good quality. Enjoyed it.
Lunch - Tried the pool bar, good selection, good quality, good service. Great ribs and chicken from the grill, great seasoning by the chef.
Room service - Used it quite a bit, hence huge hotel bill but so what, thats what holidays are for. On time 99%, reasonable menu size and selection, always arrived hot. Not able to bespoke room service meals like in Dubai which was a little dissapointing.
Hotel facilities - Spacious hotel, lots of toilets (useful with young children), all very clean, Concierge (we used once and proved to be a disaster, got her information completely wrong but have read on other reviews very good, so perhaps we caught her on a bad day), Hotel shop was ok but a little limited. Small business suite, only a handful of terminals but never failed to get a computer, expensive charges but staff would open it for me outside of normal hours which was good.
Pool complex - Main pool had good atmosphere, queued for sun loungers twice only, only for a few minutes, other times just walked out and got them. Not a lot of space between them, normal for Europe. Good pool features, waterfall, shallow areas, childrens pool, adult pool etc etc Our daughter loved it, espiecially as they allowed inflatables in the pool, which sometimes was a little ridiculous ha ha - how many 5 foot long dolphins can lilos acn you fit in a pool ...... guilty as charged! :-)
Kids Club - Great area, good facilities, very spacious, we used it one afternoon which our daughter loved.
Spa - (7 spa) Loved it, best I have been to, not hotel owned but promoted by. Modern, relaxing, excellent facilities and treatment menu, ritzy prices but well worth it. Even preferred it to Ragdale.
Hotel location - Not good but we knew this before we went, so no complaining. no local facilities, shops or restuarants. Not convenient to the beach. There is a shuttle service which is great and free of charge. There is also a train that you can jump on too. We pre-booked taxis sometimes which was better (wait 10 mins for it to arrive and collect from outside or the lobby, 5-7 euros, 5 mins). Saying that, the Marina walk wasn't far, we enjoyed it a few times, took about 25 mins pushing buggy. The route is used a lot by local joggers and runners with purpose built stop-off stations for push ups and other exercises and so forth if thats your thing. We walked to the beach too, which was a trek and a half (about 40 mins) but we like long walks anyway, so again, no complaining.

So know you know. Its a nice modern hotel, better for families with young children, with great facilities, good food and good service, with a great spa and I assume a great golf course and of course not in the best location for the marina or the beach but failing the free shuttle or the train or pre-booking a taxi all you've got to do is use your legs if you are able.

Cheers.

The hotel staff and service were excellent, the room was lovely, the breakfast buffet was excellent and the food in general in the restaurants was good however my husband and I have no chldren and were looking for somewhere to stay in the Algave that was peacful and relaxing. On researching the hotel on Tripadvisor we were impressed with the write ups and listing and thought a Golf Resort and Spa would appeal to more mature couples looking to play golf and do the spa thing. What we actually ended up with was a huge busy hotel resort running at 99% occupancy with most of it's guests having 3+ children under the age of 9Years old! There also happened to be a huge Jewish Convention at the hotel most of whom were young couples with big young families, they ate completely sepreately downstairs in the Convention Room which probably was a good thing as the restaurants would have been completely oversubscribed if they had been using the same eating facilities as everyone else. On our last evening we returned to the hotel from Villamoura around 10.30pm and thought we would pop into the bar for a nightcap unfortunatley the place was full with parents, children and baby buggys! There were aruond 30 adults in there and 40 children!! So a great place to go if you have young ones!
We drove around Quinta and visited the Quinta do Lago hotel and feel we really should have stayed there as it was far more tranquil. We stayed at the Lapa Palace in Lisbon and it was heaven......
