“Nice stay at good hotel”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

This hotel was good although I'm not sure it's 5* quality,

The room - We had lovely chocolate covered strawberries and juice left for us in the room on arrival which was a nice touch. The Garden Deluxe room is spacious, plenty of storage for us for a 1 week stay, I'm not keen on the bathroom in your room layout but it wasn't an issue. I found the noise from the corridors did come through to our room which was a bit disruptive to us when noisy residents returned late at night. Also you get a lot of noise from surrounding rooms when they're being cleaned which often was during daughters nap time! Air conditioning in the room was so noisy every time is kicked in and then would quickly quieten down after its initial blast, this led to difficult nights sleep too.

My main complaint would be housekeeping, they did a good job when they came but we left our room in the morning leaving the 'Please clean my room' sign out and returned mid afternoon and most days it hadn't been cleaned and we had to call and request it. One day it wasn't cleaned at all and we turned up after dinner to find they were doing a quick clean during turn down around 9:30pm that day.

We travelled with our toddler daughter she was messy at meal times but the restaurant and pool bar staff were wonderful with her. All staff are very accommodating of children, which is why this resort suited us so well because of how well it is geared for kids from welcoming staff to the playground and kids clubs. . All staff are lovely and helpful when needed.

The pool bar food got a bit repetitive it's menu is limited I found and the kids menu is mostly the same throughout the hotel and again limited. We ate once at Fusion restaurant on our last night and it was the best meal we had on our whole trip for both food quality and service.

The one heated pool wasn't warm enough for us, I think I saw a board saying it was about 25degrees, my daughter shivered while in it so this was a bit of a let dowe for us also the sandy beach area we found the sand very coarse but its still a nice feature as are the beds and cabanas if you can get one.

We walked over to the beach a couple of times, the restaurant there had good food at lunch to make a change from the pool bar. The nearby shop was handy for snacks and water.

The bar area is nice and peaceful place to relax and watch the world cup games that were showing.

The hotel arranged our return transfer to the airport on our departure which came with a good car seat for our daughter so this was much preferred to the taxi we'd used from the airport, and only cost a small amount more.

In all it was a nice stay at a good hotel.

Me and my partner have had the opportunity via business and personal achievements to travel the world and stay in many beautiful and not so nice hotels all over the world and I would like to give you an honest opinion of the Blue & Green Lake Resort Spa Hotel in Villamoura.

Prior to booking this deal via travel republic who are extremely over priced, we did what I assume you all are doing and reading the great reviews plastered over trip advisor. Well don't be too persuaded by these comments, although the hotel is beautiful there are many flaws; let me explain.

I will start by entering the hotel upon arrival from the UK; we were greeted by extremely friendly reception staff whom offered to assist with our luggage but after waiting 10 minutes for this help we decided to lug the suitcases to the room ourselves, don't get me wrong we aren't snobs but we expect this service promptly within a 5 star hotel.

Pool service is terrible, if you are from Portugal expect immediate service, if you are American or from a different residence within Europe please don't expect any service. Towels and beds are limited and of course you get screaming kids every where! We waiting over two hours for food and drinks in which we paid over 50 euros for two pita breads with "chicken" which was grinded beef and a beer and mojito. There is no sound at all around the pool so expect your private conversations to be over heard by fellow visitors.

The bedrooms are lovely and the cleaners are the best staff within the hotel, don't expect any service at the breakfast area, the staff are desperate to rush you out the room and clean the tables ready for lunch.

We wanted to try the floating boat restaurant but were advised the prices are extremely high and every time we walked past the restaurant it was empty with no atmosphere!

Talking about atmosphere - this hotel is dead. The only entertainment here is a bar which looks like a library and a TV on the wall playing awful Spanish music. I mean I knew with the price and location I wasn't going to get a karaoke bar here which believe me I am thankful of! But at least a piano within the lobby or some form of entertainment.

I will sum up our stay in short as follows: beautiful hotel, poor service, no entertainment, reluctant to server English at the pool bar, ignorant staff, rude management.

We are a couple in our late 20's with the option to travel any country at any time in our lives and are extremely experienced with hotels on an average of 1 business / personal trip each month for the past 10 years so please review our opinion above as an honest review.

This hotel is recommended for above 50's.

Room Tip: We stayed in "sea view" which is around half a mile away so hardly a sea view!

Recent 5 day stay here - in a 1 bedroom apartment which was well worth the extra cost for the space, great kitchen facilities ( a large fridge / freezer! ) and large balconies. Was in block D - a little walk from the main hotel but it was nice to be in 'some space'. Had resort views and the outlook to the lake / pools was good.
Spent a few days on the sunbeds - great service from the poolside bar and overall relaxing. NB they warn that in high season sunbeds are limited - I didn't have a problem but the hotel didn't appear to be full during my visit.
Also used the gym - good facilities and not busy, and the hotel bar where they mix a decent cocktail. The guest services were very helpful for the few things I asked of them.
The shop nearby was handy to stock up on things for the room.
Overall a large complex that has extensive well maintained grounds, nice pools and lots of facilities - all with good service and a short walk from the marina.

Just returned from a weeks stay in the Lake Resort. Upon arrival we found a beautifully structured hotel and grounds, as we were an early checkin our room was not quite ready so we were given tokens for a complimentary non-alcoholic drink at the pool bar. The lake itself is surrounded by gardens on one side and by sections of hotel buildings on the other three. The rooms are spacious and of a high standard. However, avoid any rooms with adjoining doors, if there are young children in the room next door you will hear them - unfortunately the noise can be a bit disruptive as we discovered on a number of occasions (its a family hotel so this can not be helped). The rooms are well maintained by cleaning staff and the turn-down service is a nice touch - however, there are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms but the room does have a mini bar that you can use. Fresh beach towels are supplied by the cleaning staff and are also available at the pool side.
There are 3 pools, one has a small beach. The pool area is clean and well maintained. The sun loungers are in good condition and the supply of cushions adds to the comfort. The prices of food and drink at the poolside bar are a bit on the high side but that comes with most 5 star hotels.
Overall the food we had in the hotel was very good particularly in the Fusion restaurant which was superb. Breakfast is the usual in a 5* hotel restaurant but note that there is a real issue with keeping the hot food hot. The bacon, hash browns, beans, fried eggs etc were all barely warm and when I made the maitre d aware of this he simply suggested that we were maybe used to hot food where we came from!!...and then offered to have the food heated. The staff generally were very friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay.
The proximity of this hotel to he marina is great (stayed in the Tivoli marina last year) and there are numerous decent restaurants to choose from.
I would definitely return to the Lake Resort but I do like my breakfast hot!

Just returned from a fantastic week at this hotel. Very spacious rooms with bathroom separate from toilet (very useful when you are travelling as a group). Definitely no complaints about cleanliness or attention to detail. The public areas are luxurious especially around the pools with their beds and loungers. We didn't have a problem finding somewhere quiet to sit and relax as we went out of season. The pool bar, although more expensive than the marina, was in our opinion still good value for money. We ate at the hotel restaurant a couple of times and were impressed with the quality, options (even though limited) and price. They had a 3 course meal for 28 euros including water and bread which was better value than eating at many of the restaurants facing the Marina. The staff were very good and responded promptly to any requests. Great hotel and would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I went to Vilamoura 3 years ago, staying in the Hilton and after falling in love with the place and seeing the grounds of The Lake Resort, decided to return to this hotel. The building is amazing, as are the grounds but the room didn't have the wow factor I was expecting. Room was relatively basic (comparing it to Hilton which I loved, expected so much more) We had the ground floor with a nice secluded garden area. Glad about this as balcony's seemed very small and close together. Breakfast was very nice. Good choice for everyone (cooked breakfast, omelettes, pastries, meats, cheese, fruits and cereal)
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the pool area was lovely. Some double beds with mattresses and pillows available which was a nice touch. Didn't eat there in the evening but nice choice of lunch available at the pool bar.
