Stayed at this hotel 3 years ago and was looking forward to returning. Booked 7 nights with Jet 2 holidays, paid the supplement for a sea view the same as last time. When we got to our room after a 3 hour wait we found it to be much smaller than the one we'd had before, with only a side sea view facing the road and the dreaded Puro Beach Nightclub!! that we'd read about on reviews before we came away, Went straight back to reception and demanded another room, eventually we were given one with full sea view around the other side of the hotel. This was a little quieter but we still got the revellers passing by as other people have already mentioned .On our last morning we had an early start and saw 2 men relieving themselves in the sand dunes and one passed out on the ground, not really the lasting impression you want to take home with you!! .When we checked out we were told we owed 33 euros for water from the 'mini bar' we'd had about 6 small bottles as we thought it was complimentary and there was nothing to say otherwise We refused to pay and told them it would be a small compensation for so many disturbed nights. It was our first holiday abroad with our little 20 month old granddaughter, she loved the children's pool and enjoyed every minute, thank goodness she was so tired by the end of the day she was oblivious to the racket outside. Would not stay here again at this time of year. Really enjoyed the resort and had some lovely meals around the marina in the evening all very child friendly.

Room Tip: Superior sea view higher floor

Just returned home from our holiday and like other reviews cannot fault the location of this hotel being right on the sea front, BUT and it's a big BUT, you have a Nightclub on one side and a Casino on the other which means very loud music and extremely noisy revellers. The worst was yet to come when they all piled out to go home which was around 5.30 am to 7.30 am the chanting, screaming and honking of car horns was unbearable. After three nights of this we complained to the manager and was told that unfortunately nothing could be done about the situation. We also heard other guests complaining about the noise and some were glad they had only booked for a week. The food although plentiful was cold on many occasions while some might be happy with that we were not after all you are paying for the comfort of a 4 star hotel and you expect food to be hot! All in all we made the best of a holiday that we had been looking forward to but we will never return to this hotel or resort again.

Just home after spending nine nights in this hotel and more exhausted than when I started our holiday. Nightclub close by and the noise is unbearable, revellers on the street from approximate 4am till 8am sometimes, shouting, singing and honking car horns, single glazing so it sounded as if the window was open, even though we were on 8th floor. Complained at reception and was met with indifference, he said it was holiday time. Otherwise a nice hotel.

returned on 9th july which was my familys 4rth stay at this great hotel.my kids are 7 and 11 and a great feature has been two pools one shallow one which was great when my kids were smaller as they can play away in safety, it is also surrounded by lush grass for running about and trees for shade.staff are great and helpful and polite and you often see the hands-on manager mucking in to help his staff.the location of this hotel for both beach and marina could not be better it also has two tennis courts and putting area .the hotel really has a chilled atmosphere but also puts on great activities throughout the day for kids and adults which is the main draw for me ,the staff always make everyone feel included and welcome no matter what language you speak and nearly everyone speaks great english which has been great for my kids to make many friends and have fun ,for myself i especially love the 5pm volleyball match which i hadnt played since school and has been the best fun ever just trying to keep the ball in the air.in the bar there is a pool table and various tv,s for whatever sporting events are on , this year coincided with the wimbledon final and the atmosphere was electric.downstairs there is a games room with table football air hockey table tennis and some arcade games all great for getting out the sun for a bit or just rounding off the night.there is always some sort of evening entertainment for both kids and adults at the bar area. really cant fault this hotel and have noted in other peoples reviews comments about noise from children but maybe they be better suited to a hotel which only caters for pensioners.about the marina there are some really good places to eat in particular we liked the mayfower and lamparos

Room Tip: been 4 times now always had a junior suite overlooking kids pool where there is also views of ocean...

I stayed here for one week in July and found it to be a great hotel in a superb location, practically on the beach and a minute or two walk to the marina and shops. Staff are very helpful, polite and accommodating. Plenty sunbeds for all available by the poolside. Lovely indoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi too! We must have been on the opposite side of hotel thankfully as we didn't come across any nightclub noise (stated below).

Just back from ten nights half board, Fantastic we were upgraded from a junior suite to a senior suite gr8, Food was excellent try to avoid busy times for a more relaxing meal. Pool was great no problem getting sun beds, beach across the road was very nice also. The staff were very good, Very close to the bars and restaurants at marina. The only downside was the 7 nightclub beside Tivoli hotel, Loads of Portuguese kids singing and dancing in streets until 6am. This was not the Vila Gale Ampalius's fault however several people complained to reception about it. A tip for ladies bring your own hair dryers as the hotels where nothing brilliant. Overall gr8 hotel. loved the bbq nights the diet starts Monday lol.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for balcony as some rooms don't have one. Restaurants are very expensive aroun...

I stayed at the Vila Gale Ampaulius with my husband and sister for 2 weeks from 9th June. We requested rooms together with balconies which we were given. Our rooms were at the back of the hotel overlooking the tennis courts with a slight sea view. We were more than happy with our rooms which were clean and surprising large with a good size bathroom, the beds were very hard, I have a firm bed at home but found the beds here too hard for me. I felt the charge for the safe in the rooms were expensive at 16 euros per week, (perhaps its just me but I feel that when you have paid to stay at a 4 star hotel the safe should be within the cost of the accommodation). Unfortunately each time we approached the reception the wait was about 15 minutes, having said that the staff were very polite and helpful they just need more staff on the shifts. As other reviewers have said the rooms are not serviced until late in the afternoon but this didn't cause us any problems.
The pool area was clean with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. The spa which is in the basement of the hotel is fantastic although I didn't make use of the facilities. I cannot comment on the entertainment as we spent most of our evenings around the Marina. We stayed on a bed and breakfast status, the breakfasts were very good there must be something there for all tastes.
The location of the hotel is ideal being just 2 minutes from the beach (we did not spend much time on the beach as the sunbeds are very expensive and charged up to 2pm and then from 2pm onwards) The Marina is just 3 minutes away. The wonderful little Noddy train stops just outside the hotel (You must try this as its very relaxing and you get to see parts of Vilamoura that you probably would not walk to and its very cheap 4 euros per person if I recall correctly), there is also the bus stop just outside the hotel which takes you to Albufeira or Lagos.
We walked into Quarteria a couple of times for a change to going to the Marina, on one occassion we was lucky enough to see one of their festivals with children and adults dressed in wonderful costumes.
We enjoyed our two weeks at Vila Gale Ampalius but would probably not return as we did find the hotel noisey with groups of men staying there for golf, and during our second week it was very noisey around the pool and garden areas with children.
We enjoyed our evenings around the Marina going to the bars (where there are good quality live singers) and wonderful restaurants.

Room Tip: We stayed at the back of hotel and did not have the noise of the nightclub but perhaps it wasn't...
