I have just come back from a week in Vilamoura and stayed here and can't fault it, we booked a junior suite so had a little kitchen with fridge and oven as well as a sitting area, originally we were given a room on the first floor right above the reception door top so we had a very limited view, my boyfriend went down to ask if there was any way that we could be moved to a room with a better view, we were told not to unpack and that if we came back down in the morning there would hopefully be a room on a higher floor, we went down and they moved us to the 6th floor, with the most fantastic view, they were really helpful the whole week through and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless and had a very big balcony which caught the afternoon sun. The food was lovely with a different buffet selection each night and morning, the waiters were also very friendly. We didn't use the swimming pool but it never looked too busy out there with a lot of people sunbathing at the back, I think to shelter from the wind. We went to Aqua land whilst there which was ok, I think we got tickets from the dearest place though so if you're going to book some, look around before buying as you'll get a better deal that way. On our last day we went on a buggy Safari which is definitely worth doing, it was 60euros per buggy but if the 2 of you share, you both have a go as they stop half way at a really pretty lake. We had a good 3 hours out and went along the roads and dusty tracks, at the end we even went down some really steep slopes, it was brilliant and the women running it are so friendly!! The only thing I would advise is when going to jafers, the little supermarket by the Dom Pedro Marina Hotel, check your change, my boyfriend didn't realise he'd been shortchanged by a euro until he got back to our hotel, the following night we went to get some stuff from there and the same lady was there again, I checked my change and again we'd been given a euro less, my boyfriend went into complain and the woman didn't even have to check our receipt and gave us the euro instantly so she's probably keeping a euro of all the tourists change so just make sure you check it. All in all though brilliant hotel in a fantastic location, although the music opposite goes on very late, it was playing at 4.30 most nights, could be later and it is very loud. I think the hotel has entertainment every night from about 10.30, we only experienced 2 nights and from what we saw, I feel the entertainment might be aimed at older customers. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask if you would like a better room, the reception staff are brilliant and will help you out if possible

Second visit to the ampalius and we have loved it both times, huge room with sea view, which we did pay extra for but it's well worth it. Please beware don't ask reception to call you a taxi for the airport they. Use a private firm and it was 15 Euros more,,"! The taxi rank is a 2 minute stroll. Other than this we can't fault the hotel breakfast had choice of everything and the location is spot on. Will return

Room Tip: Pay for sea vie

We went for a weekend in early May and overall a nice hotel and resort.

HOTEL
Hotel is nice, we got a room upgrade so lots of space, over looking the sea. Mainly full of groups of golfers and couples / families.
Breakfast was a really good selection buffet, all well cooked and clean.
Pool isn't massive and although it was fine for us, can imagine it will get busy during peak time.
It's located just a short walk from the beach and casino, and few minutes from marina where the main bars and restaurants are.
Pool bar was more expensive than bars around the marina. There was a form of entertainment in the evening but we didn't stay around to hear it so can't comment.

VILAMOURA
Early May was busy enough that there was atmosphere around the resort but not too busy that we couldn't get a table in the bars or restaurants. There is a great selection of restaurants and some really nice bars, all near to each other, around the marina.
Food modestly priced, you could get a club sandwich & beer for €8 in the day, but then pay €30 for a steak in the evening, so a good selection to suit all.
Casino is good fun, although really smokey!

Would definitely go back.

Stayed here for a week half board mid May and couldn't fault it. Requested a sea view room on a high floor and got exactly that. Our room on 8th floor overlooked the reception with views of the sea and marina. Although we were close to the lifts the room was very quiet and comfortable.

Breakfast had a good selection of cooked foods, breads and fruits. Evening meal menus were listed in lifts so we were able to decide what nights to eat in and when to go out. Again good selection and even a fussy eater like me could leave feeling stuffed!

The grounds were clean and well maintained. Spent most days laying by the small pool as it was a bit more sheltered from the breeze than other areas.

I have stayed in other hotels in Vilamoura before but the Ampalius has so much going for it, not least the location which is a minutes walk away from the Marina.

I would strongly recommend it and can't wait to return again.

Room Tip: High room over reception gets views of sea and marina
