I stayed here for 4 nights with my husband in the second week of September. The weather was just right for me being a red head as it was not too hot. Vilamoura is a great place if you enjoy golf and modern bars, restaurants and shops all centred around the Marina. Do not expect to get a flavour of Portugal here. It is clean and seems to have lots of groups of men on golfing holidays when we went.

Our hotel was in a great location over looking the sea and near the harbour. I paid extra for a sea view and was glad I did. The noisy disco mentioned in other reviews was never open when we were there.

This is a four star hotel in some aspects in my view but not in others. The pool areas, lobby and restaurants were all excellent. Our room however really needed a bathroom makeover as it was a bit dated and had the dreaded shower curtain with shower over the bath.

We only had breakfast as there is so much choice to eat outside. The cooked food was pretty average and the sausages and bacon were particularly aweful. The orange juice was concentrated and I have had better food in some 3 star hotels.

There were plenty of sun loungers so no need to put towels down though some people did (most embarassingly mainly Brits). There were signs to say towels would be removed if left but no-one seemed to enforce it (I guess it was because this was an off peak period). Children had their own pool but again no-one seemed to challenge the fact they used the adults. The pools are not heated and take time to warm up so best used later.

The evening entertainment that we saw was not very good and we went out most of the time. Most staff were very helpful and room cleaning was good.

I would say the best thing about this hotel is the location and staff but it needs a breakfast and bathroom makeover! Give it a go and see what you think anyway.

Room Tip: If you go in peak season pay extra for a room facing the sea and not opposite the car park.

We have just come back from here. I've got to say after reading the reviews I was a little concerned about the noise from the so called Disco and was hoping all the way on the plane that my room was not near it!! I was a bit disappointed that I did not get a sea view as requested, but was pleasantly surprised by our room, we were above the shops on the front and it was quiet considering all the golfers that were there! Overall we had a lovely stay BUT the breakfast was not very good to say the least!!! Tinned cocktail sausages, fried eggs that were still uncooked on the top, pure slime dripping off!! The overall layout of the food was not very well thought through, as you went from one end of the room to the other to put your breakfast together, trying to avoid knocking into other confused diners, there was only 2 very slow toasters and a poor selection of preserves!! The only thing I can add is that we were very pleased that we didn't go half board!! Overall the staff were brilliant and friendly we had clean towels every day and the rooms were spotless ****

We stayed in the hotel as part of a group of 28 in the first week of October. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained and the housekeeping staff were in attendance every day. Breakfast was plentiful, if not a little repetitive. What one wouldn't do for a decent cup of coffee. No real complaints to speak of and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a stay in the area.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool with views of the beach and couldn't really say anything negative about any of the rooms.

Our first trip to Portuga/Vilamoura. Excellent transfers to and from the airport via A to B shuttle service. The hotel is in a great location, booked B&B, which was ideal because there are some fab restaurants all around the marina and in the small squares just behind which were quite reasonably priced. The room which was on the 6th floor and overlooked the tennis courts, was very clean and and towels/linen changed every day - just wish we had booked a room with a balcony/sea view, although this didn't really matter as we were only there for seven days.Hotel staff very helpful and efficient. Ample choice of food at breakfast. Lovely pool area and no problem finding sunbeds, clean towels available with tokens from reception. We stayed there at the end of September and there wasn't much going on in the way of entertainment in the evenings at the hotel - the 'Fun Team' weren't having much luck encouraging people to participate in the karaoke evening and the performing parrots were a bit naff - don't like to see animals exploited in this way - but each to his own! The spa area/gym and pool was lovely and free although we didn't make much use of it due to our short stay, enjoyed a very relaxing facial.Saw some signs advertising Vilamoura round and about saying "You weren't born here but this is where your belong" - that's exactly how we felt! We had a really lovely time and would most definitely return to Vilamoura and this hotel. Had read a few other reviews in which people complained about the noise from the Puro Beach Club - even packed ear plugs, just in case but this wasn't a problem as it was closed at the time we were there.

Room Tip: Book a high floor with a balcony and if you are visiting late September, check if there are any upgrades available
