“Amazing place for the hole familiy”

The old town of Vilamoura is a beautiful "mini" town with restaurants, pools and even a mini market.
We have stayed here for 4 weeks and the kids love IT. The kids are twins with the age of 7 and then a boy and he is 4.
Its small and very safe.
The kids are having a great time. We have a rental car and been exploring the area.
Thats highly recommended. We have cooked our own breakfast and some lunch.
Its great with the apartment and the exstra space with children!
We love this place And will definitately come back soon .

Beautiful complex made up if idyllic apartments and communal pools. Loved everything about our stay here, from the area, to the weather, pools and restaurants. The apartment we stayed in was not best for children as it had very steep, narrow stairs. However, great for a long weekend break with friends/family.

Me and my family stayed here about 5 years ago, and I undoubtedly enjoyed my stay here. The whole complex is set out like an old Portuguese village, and it is absolutely stunning. Everyone was so friendly and polite, the accommodation was perfect, the local food was exquisite and the pools were kept clean (if slightly cold!). Everything in the town is within walking distance, this is a beautiful place and I cannot rate it highly enough!

My sister, her daughter and myself returned last week from a 5 night break at this lovely resort. We only booked it last minute (week before) and didn't really know what to expect. We arrived after midnight but were met by security who showed us to our apartment. It was great! Two bedrooms, with air conditioning which was very welcome as it was very hot. Even better was the fact that the doors to the garden then led onto the main pool. Everywhere on the site is really clean and very well maintained. The shop is really handy and likewise we made good use of the restaurants and bars. Its well worth a visit to the marina (20 minutes walk) and the beach (30 minutes). Taxi under 4 euros for the return journey. Would definitely return here.

Room Tip: We stayed in apartment 20A which was great for the pool. Would probably not suit families with young...

The Old Village
We spent a few days at the old village and really enjoyed it. The concept is nice - it's like a little village with tiny kinda neoclassical mixed with mediterranean style buildings. Looks like it was built on 80's or so but it's very well maintained. The gardens surrounding the buildings are also used to divide areas and to define walkways, they bring a relaxing and natural feeling to the place turning a walk around a really pleasant experience.
We stayed in one of the ground level studios with air conditioning, bathroom was spacious and everything was clean and prepared when we arrived.
The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need like microwave, kettle, toaster, washing machine hairdryer etc. It also has an ironing table behind the bathroom door, so I considered the studio really we'll equipped indeed, everything you might need you name it you have it there - really nice.
One thing we didn't liked was the curtains don't block the sunlight very well, so as soon as the sun raises if you don't like or you can't to sleep with light (like me) then you will have a problem so it's preferable if you bring your sleeping mask. We'll they could add some black out curtains for those who prefer, that would be much easier.
The cleaning services were working very well as far as we could see, each day when we were returning during afternoon our studio was clean, but they didn't change the towels.
In spite of few reviews saying there was a lack of wifi coverage I can't agree : most probably they improved it, since with our iPhones and iPads we had a full strength wifi coverage everywhere (inside our studio, pools, etc).
Location inside Vilamoura: the old village is in a central area, no doubt about it, however it is in my opinion a little bit hard to walk to the beach, and I am realistic when I say it will take you around 30 to 40 minutes to reach the beach, sounds not a big deal however imagine doing it with temperature above 35 celsius... A bit less time to the marina area where most of the nightlife takes part but also frustrating in a hot day or night. But, don't worry since if you don't rent a car you can get taxi easily or even if you're in the mood for it you can rent a bicycle.
The old village has 3 pools located strategically on the east part, middle and west side. We found a different ambiance on each of them like more kids on the middle one, young adults on east pool and more mature people on the west one( and so more quiet) generally all of them are good enough, you have to pay 1,5 euros for a chair, this was told us at the reception when we arrived. The pools have fences around for security reasons, and there is food / beverage . No towel service tho.
There's plenty of restaurants there as well as a little supermarket, pubs etc everything inside the resort. I believe old village can be an amazing relaxing place for families with children. The staff was very nice and professional, helping on any questions we had so I will definitely recommend this place.

Worst moment: the west pool is located next to a restaurant called "Princess garden" and one day we decided to go there to be reading by the pool because seemed to be a more quiet place however a rude waiter from that restaurant spoiled our afternoon when he put some very very loud music not really caring about us or the other guests there. He even laughed at us when we told we would complain if he wasn't lowering the music volume (see my review of Princess garden restaurant). So if you're looking for some peaceful moments my advice is to avoid that Princess garden restaurant area - and try to not stay on the apartments next to it since you will have like a hard rock concert if that fellow is around. At the reception they told us they couldn't do anything about it because seems the mentioned restaurant has nothing to do with old village management, so if you stay on that part you're on your own...really bad!!!

We stayed in a nice basic studio apartment on ground floor, 15A church square. No air conditioning which was a problem as it was 34 degrees during the day. Twin beds were really uncomfortable & couldn't sleep but that was probably due to the heat. It was clean & well equipped with everything needed. Supermarket in the complex was reasonably priced but fresh bread quickly disappeared from the shelves! Would recommend it but make sure you get an apartment with air conditioning!

Arrived at 9pm & transfer bus just dropped us off so we didn't know where to go to find any kind of reception, however, a security man arrived and grunted and pointed in a northerly direction and handed us an envelope with a key in it. It took us 10 minutes to find it and the key was very stiff & awkward. We were not told we needed a card (20 euro deposit had to be paid) for the swimming pool so this was an inconvenience as there was no one to hand it back to when we left as the office was closed for the day. Drinks at the pools are very expensive. Also, you are charged 1.50 euros for each morning AND afternoon session at the pool, and you don't get a pool towel or anything for your 3 euros per day other than a sunbed.

Room Tip: ask for one with air conditioning

Stayed here for a long weekend with a friend. The studio apartment we were given had been recently re decorated so was very clean and had everything we could have needed. The grounds are very pretty and well maintained. Great time to stay if you want some time before the main season starts as it was not very busy we had the dolphin pool to ourselves quite a bit of the day. The stroll to the marina is about 15 minutes and very pleasant. Would recommend the old village to anyone. And will defiantly go back.
