we are just back from a two week stay at the pinhal. we had a great time. we stayed in one of the three bed apartments. the apartment was spacious and spotless. the gardens in the complex were maintained to a high standard. it was a ten minute walk to the marina which was another world. i had used trip advisor before i booked this holiday, and i have to say every review was great. the complex did live up to our expectations.

the only fault we had was the restaurant. the bar and the restaurant are both together. our first time in the restaurant we ordered fish fingers for our 3 year old. when he tasted them he nearly choked. they were actually raw inside. we gave them back and were asked if wanted more.. thankfully he didnt get sick which was the main thing. we got talking to the man who runs the restaurant and the bar, alongside one other person. he told us he works from 6 in the morning until 1am.he works 3 days a week. this is totally illegal and wrong. it is a health and safety issue.
it was on our second last night when we got the brunt of his tiredness, when we went for a meal, menus were thrown at us and we were told to sit down in the bar and choose what we wanted, after 10 mins my friend asked was our table ready and he just shrugged his shoulders and muttered something. we then got up and left the restauraunt and went to vilamoura. we felt so humiliated, as everyone in the restaurant was listening to the way he spoke to us, after all we were the customers and should have been shown some respect. thankfully we were near the end of our holiday and we wouldnt have to deal with him again.

overall we enjoyed the pinhal except for the restaurant.i wrote this review to share our experience with people going there and to make them aware of what they can expect in the restaurant.

The Pinhal Da Marina is set in some of the most beautiful surroundings I have seen in a long time. The staff were helpful and very polite. Maid service is 6 times a week, so the apartment and the grounds were kept beautifully clean.

There is a 3 minute walk to the Casa Del Forna (just off the main road), which is an Italian restaurant and is superb, so you too could say hello to Paddy and enjoy some of his hospitality, which I would strongly, strongly recommend.

The apartments are in an ideal location, the Marina is breath taking by night and so is Quateria and both are in strolling distance, and it is worth taking a visit to ZooMarine.

Our family of four never stuggled for sun beds or parasols, and the mini market was well stocked, so shopping essentials like bottles of water didn't have to be carried very far.

The choice of pools was lovely and the snack bar, inexpensive and very efficient.

The only criticism I have was I felt let down by our apartment as it looked nothing like in the brochure, the brochure pictures are of the new blocks. The apartment was past its best to say the least, although it was very spacious and spotlessly clean and as there was so much to do we were hardly in the apartment anyway !!

We have just got back from an excellent holiday on the Algarve.
We are in our 40's and the boys are 8 & 11 yrs old.
The pool was fantastic and i'm sure our kids are now amphibian! They lived in the water which was just as well because it was searingly hot at times around the pool. we did venture to the beach on a couple of days which was good fun and we did spend one day at AquaShow water park which was terrific fun, with some super rides to enjoy.
The complex was neat and tidy, the rooms were cleaned every day except sunday. the reception was very helpful but they could have stayed open a bit longer, closing at 6.00 every evening was quite awkward particularly on the last day when we had our room extras to pay for!!
decor in the rooms was rather dated (70's style) and the kitchens could do with a bit of modernising but overall the beds were comfy and the air-con worked well (paid extra for that!)
about 15 minute walk down to the Marina and the various restaurants surrounding. we were self-catering so fed ourselves breakfast and lunch and dined out every night. there is plenty of choice and a meal for us 4 was on average about 50£ - 60£.
yes i would recommend this holiday to anyone with young families that are'nt afraid of a bit of walking each day.

We stayed during at Pinhal during the last week of July and first week of August 2007 in a two bedroom apartment.

It was as per the brochure and although quite dated it was clean and comfortable. You have to pay for the air conditionng and the safety deposit box, but it's not a huge charge when you consider the overall cost of the holiday and both of these are essential. The apartment was very spacious and with maid service 6 days a week.

The onsite shop is useful for essentials and not too expensive. Supermarkets are available about 10 minutes walk away for more choice.

Even though we were peak period we never struggled to get loungers or parasols and the pools were generally quiet. Overall it's a quiet location with a 20 minute walk to the main restaurants and 30 minutes to the beach.

For the occassional golfer, you can book through reception. We only played the Pinhal De Marina course and my tip is to book for after 12:00 as buggy and clubs are then free!! Take your own golf shoes though as otherwise you'll have to buy some at a minimum charge of 90 Euros!

Overall, a very enjoyable time with few complaints.

We stayed at these apartments in june 2007 and had a fantastic time, the apartment we stayed in was very spacious and cleaned thoroughly everday by a very lovely and helpful cleaner. we had a vey large balcony which was very private and we loved the fact that there was 2 loungers on there. The only negative was that there was not a lift, but there are only three floors so you can cope.
The grounds were lovely surrounding us, and there were 2 pools and a childrens pool all kept very clean with plenty of loungers.
Me and my boyfriend went alone but we would happily take our child next time.
Vilamoura harbour is gorgeous, although we did find it a little bit expensive however, if you take a 15 minute walk into quartiera the food is delicious and very reasonabley priced. but its sometimes worth eating at the marina because the views are fantastic!
