We have been to the Algave many times over the past 20+ years and stayed here twenty years ago when it was the Atlantis. We stayed for a week in Sept prior to a villa for the second week. The refub is excellent with vast amounts spent inside and out so:

Good Points
-Rooms very contemporary with glass screened bathroom, flat screen tv and v large bed with fantastic mattress.
- We had a great deal on half board and the restaurant for both brakfast and dinner although both buffet were excellent with great choices and always plenty there.
- Grounds beauitiful with landscaping lovely and plenty of space.
- Swimming pool the largest I have seen in Europe and good beds and beanbags on the lawns.
- Free internet on 4 Macs - If this stays free in the future?

Room for Improvement
- Bar is souless with no atmosphere. Could be that as drinks were on pricey side it put people off but there was never anyone there.
- No entertainment in the evening whilst other hotels around were buzzing.
- Lack of pool bar. Cannot understand why one was not put in on refurb around such a great pool.
- Coffee machine in room looks good but they charge so we did not use it.
- Indoor pool and spa advertised and we were informed at check in of its existance but they failed to mention that it is 10 euros a day!!

Overall a great hotel that I think needs to improve on certain points if it is to be a 5* that warrants the room rates that they are charging. It also needs to decide if it can span the conference and holiday markets and provide for both. We will possibly return as the location is great but only if we can get a deal.

We stayed at the Crowne plaza for 8 nights- check in efficient but would have appreciated some hotel information- eg- indoor swimming pool/ outdoor swimming pool charges etc. Rooms were excellent although we thought we had booked deluxe room we discovered no real difference between side sea view deluxe and standard room . However, Deluxe front sea view rooms have larger sitting area. We had been concerned about room cleanliness after having read previous reviews but found them to be immaculately clean and the housekeeping standard high.
Breakfast was good although some staff found it hard to smile. They were also sometimes slow to serve coffee and clear tables. We ate in the hotel one evening but found the buffet poor value for money( 26 euros)
Pool area is lovely and outdoor seating area comfortable.
Overall we found drinks charges etc to be what you would expect to pay in 4/5 star hotel. Would not hesitate to recommend hotel and intend to use hotel in the future. There are some areas which stop this hotel being a 5 star but at the moment it is operating to a good 4 star standard.

My party's visit to the Crowne Plaza Vilamoura was enjoyable but, all was not as well as it could have been for a, supposedly, 5* hotel. Although the hotel has many outstanding, redeeming features and staff were very pleasant and considerate, the following matters, in no particular order, I believe, need to be addressed. I could also have raised issues of lesser importance but, have chosen not to.

• No dinner plate warming units were present and hence hot/warm food was rendered cold almost immediately.

• Although free internet access was appreciated, invariably one, tediously, had repeatedly to ask Reception to enter a user name and password to gain access and hence, the use of a computer became a time consuming exercise.

• No instructions in rooms as to TV controls and other matters needed when first arriving at a hotel.

• Although rooms have dressing tables, no dressing table mirrors were present. This is probably a shortcoming most acknowledged by ladies!

• Although most rooms are for two persons, only one sun lounger chair was present on balconies.

• Water was heavily chlorinated to the extent tea, in particular, tasted of it and had to be avoided.

• Difficulty on first day of five for our party members trying to contact my room (812) by using their room phone as, my room's phone number was wrongly allocated as 811. After identifying the problem, it was immediately reported to Reception but, this situation remained during my stay and I was, initially, even billed for a call made by someone from another room which, apparently, had been wrongly allocated the phone number 812.

• Because of the fixed shower screens in the bathroom, a bath cannot be run without climbing into the bath first and hence, the ergonomics in this connection are somewhat mixed up!

• No lock on bathroom doors.

• On day one a rubber anti-slip mat was requested for use when showering. Although considered a basic safety requirement, one was not made available. Especially in relation to unsure footed elderly guests, slipping and falling in a shower can lead to serious injury!

Not quite ready as a 5* hotel. Recommended subject to the above matters receiving attention.

Just returned today after spending 4 nights at Crowne Plaza. This was our first trip to Portugal. Hired a car which we did not use as weather too good to drive around. Car hire less than 50 which was great value. The hotel is every thing you would want in a luxurious break. The rooms are gorgeous would love to have brought bathroom home! We had room on marina side which Id recomend, as has evening sun. Beautiful sunsets seen from balcony while chilling after hard day sunbathing. We were half board which was great value. Food was good and we ate there every evening. Staff good. Wont have you rolling around laughing. Just do their job. Our four days flew/ Will be back hopefully for longer. Go.

Just back from a week’s stay. Having read some of the reviews, wasn’t sure what to expect. This is a lovely hotel. Drive from Faro airport took approx. 25 minutes. The hotel has bedrooms on three sides, Quarteira side gets the sun in the morning and by about 1pm is in the shade. Deluxe seaview rooms face the sea and have the sun for most of the day. They are well worth the upgrade (40 Euros per night) but the rooms are larger with seating area. Try and book a room above 6th floor for views. The third side is the Marina side. These rooms are in the shade in the morning and any time after 2pm, they get the sun. The rooms are very comfortable, beds large and stupendous. One or two quirky things with the rooms – the tv, when you switch it on, it automatically goes to pay per view dvds. Wait a few second for a cursor to come up to exit from buying 15 euros of films you may not want. Coffee machine in room, currently payable at 3.50 euros for a small cup. Only two complimentary small bottles of water next to the coffee machine, the rest you pay for. Mini bar is available but very costly to use. Next, lighting, there are two master switches by the side of the bed which turns off all the lighting in the room so if you want the bathroom in the middle of the night, you have to make sure only the bathroom light is left on otherwise the whole room lights up. Bathrooms, very clean and tidy with refreshed toiletries daily. No noise from nearby disco attached to casino when we stayed.

Restaurant – buffet breakfast on four islands. Extensive choice of food from full English to fresh fruit and everything inbetween. We stayed on halfboard basis and expected to eat in Villamoura on at least a couple of occasions, we never did, the food was that good both for breakfast and the evening meal which is also buffet. The only thing to watch for is that water is not complimentary with the meal and we were charged 4.50 euros for a one litre bottle of water. Internet is available on four computers free of charge in the reception area. When we went, availability was always good although they did tend to crash regularly. Otherwise wifi will cost 15 euros for 24 hours from the moment you log on, otherwise 50 euros for a week. Wifi reception was very good on 8th floor.

Swimming pool – plentiful supply of sunbeds and fatboys but we were told that at the height of the summer, there were not enough of either to go around. Pool very good, clean and tested regularly but cold! The hotel is just opposite the beach with a beach bar and is a short walk (10 minutes) to the Marina.

Supermarkets – nearest one has closed down but Jafars is about a 10 minute walk away towards the Marina with all essentials.

We look forward to staying at this hotel again.
