The Residences at Victoria
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We are a family of 4 with two girls aged 11 & 14. We arrived 19th December 2012 and stayed for 12 nights. On arrival we were tired after a long day, and on finding out that the next door 5* Tivoli hotel was closed for maintenance (not disclosed on booking) our hearts sank with the thought that perhaps we had chosen poorly. We need not have worried one bit. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful (we are sure they even arranged the perfect weather), whilst our 2 bed apartment far exceeded our expectations; modern, spacious, nicely furnished and cleaned every day, including Xmas day. The indoor pool and gym got a lot of use, and whilst the Residences are a drive from the Marina, it's position suited us perfectly as we had hired a car and preferred to explore elsewhere. Whilst the quietness of the Residences and the Algarve at Christmas in general may not suit everybody's taste, we thought it was perfect and will definitely return.

Great Welcome from staff, even though we arrived late on 15th Dec 2012. Staff could not have been more helpful throughout our stay. Excellent spacious accomodation in 20 A - first class furnishings, white goods & utensils, comfortable beds ( slept 12 hours some nights ! ) and a wonderful relaxing rest ( If anyone needs a Convalescence - this is the place to be). For those who enjoy sightseeing, its a great base & a lovely safe place to return home to. Indoor pool was lovely & warm & the Residences has a play area with trampoline for the children. Met some lovely families during our stay. Balconies to sit out on to enjoy breakfast in the sun. 4 tv's & all the channels you'd ever need, so no one missed their favourite programmes over Christmas. Watched the New Year firework display from the roof terrace. Usually the hassle with self catering is all the cleaning you have to do on the last day - but not in The Residences - having the daily maid service made a huge difference. Like the other reviewer, we declined the maid service on Christmas Day & New Years day so staff could go home early. Some occasional noise from above was heard due to heels on the beautiful tiled floors, but slippers can be provided & I'm sure the staff would organise a change of apartment if this was available. If you have not been to Portugal before - make sure you visit Lagos with its Marina, Beaches & the old town. We made 1 mistake as we had to pay Easy Jet an unexpected £ 200 for putting our suitcases ( 1 each) in the hold. As the Residences have washing machines, ironing boards etc - next time we'll just take " carry on" hand luggage & save this excess charge. Car hire is a must for the Algarve. Adega do Cantor near Guia is worth a visit, but you have to book in advance. It's a pretty spot with the undulating hills & sea view while the wine ( most reasonably priced) is 14 percent alcohol ! Don't buy Sir Cliff's signed bottles for 50 euro because firstly, he did not press the grapes personally by foot and secondly his handwriting needs improvement ! Coach trip for a visit to Fatima ( 3 - 4 hours each way) would have been a better option than driving the 730 km return, although we met only about 2 dozen cars on the motorway in total. The toll charges in Euro's were 48.20 and 8.20 return for the 730 km trip. Winter in the Algarve is a joy. Beautiful beaches, longer sun filled days & wonderful, friendly people. We will return to The Residences.

Room Tip: 20 A was a quiet room ( as requested) away from the pool

What a great place, went on holiday here late June/early July stayed for five days then went on to the tivoli marina for five days.
Upsides
1.Great welcome came in the dark were upgraded to a three bedroom apartment and shown where everything was
2.Apartments are immaculate and spacious we had one that overlooked the outdoor pool
3.Food was good quality in complex cafe bar and reasonably priced
4.Lovely outdoor pool huge and there was an indoor pool aswell outdoor pool is a little fresh though keep moving you'll soon warm up
5.Good gym facilities although some may not fancy this on holiday
6.You have use of all the facilities in the tivoli hotel next door and at the marina
7.There is a free shuttle bus that takes you down to the marina and brings you back
8.Good security around complex and each apartment has locking electric window shutters
Downsides
1.It is quite far out as far as walking did this a couple of times and it is a good hour as boring as it comes nothing to see and not one for families I'm afraid
2.Not many shops close by so if your self catering there are no food shops within easy walking distance
3.Free shuttle bus is limited so check the times there and back
1.

Stayed here 23rd-30th Dec 12,What a great place,We thought we had found a good plkace at the Balia Atlantico,Albufera but this place puts it to shame,Yes it is more expensive but well worth the extra,As my wife and myself are in our 60s and very rarely drink the quality of the television programs is very important to us but here was home from home bbc 1,2 3,4 & news, itv 1,2,3,4,channel 4,e4,e4+1,more 4,more 4+1,sky news and more,We were in a 2 bedroom appartment overlooking the pool with sunshine all day,3 TVs,Full kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and washing machine,Maid service everyday even on Christmas Day,but declined so the maids could get an early finish and get home to there families for Christmas.Would def stay here again,One drawback is you do need a car as there is nother withi walking distance.

Room Tip: The hotel next door is closed until Feb so make sure you hire a car,You can park in the Tivoli Marin...

Myself & my family (2 adults & 2 teenagers) stayed in The Residences for 17 days. We arrived fo 1am & had requested an early check-in, unfortunately this didn't occur till 1pm. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment was very well kitted out and very comfortable. It overlooked the 8th green & the 9th fairway. There was loads of room for all of us and the shuttle facility is very handy. The pool is great there is also a reasonably sized indoor pool. It's ideal if you don't want to be in the middle of Vilamoura & is only about 15 minutes out. It's a nice walk into Vilamoura as you pass Pinhal, Laguna & Millennium golf courses, which can talk about and hour. Wifi is only available in the reception area which has a helpful & unhelpful mix of staff. You have use of the Hotel facilities which are only 2 minutes away. We'd definitely head back. On checkout be aware that if it's before 9am The Residences reception will be closed and you'll have to checkout via the Hotel.

Room Tip: Room on Block C are quiter

1st time in our lives we decided to head abroad for Christmas - so I chose the Residences at Victoria for our family of 4 (2 six year olds) and we stayed from 22nd Dec 2012 for 1 week. The accommodation and service was outstanding - the 2 bedroom apartment looked over the golf course and was appointed to a very high standard - exceptionally comfortable - fixtures and fittings of a very high standard and very well maintained - no shortcuts. We had maid service every day and the apartment was left immaculate every single day. Obviously being the low season it was very quiet and the 5* affiliated Tivoli Hotel next door was closed - so no restaurants etc within walking distance - but we had a car so no problems and Vilamoura has many options 5-10 mins drive away. I would imagine come say Easter the options for eating etc would increase significantly. Staff were all extremely friendly, professional and courteous. We had a great week break with 1 week of unbroken sun with no rain and temps in the range of 17-20 C every day - v different to Ireland at Christmas. In short highly recommended & we will be back .......

Room Tip: All apartments are appointed to the same high & exceptional standard !!

Exquisite fit and finish that will appeal to those after a manicured paradise, similar to what one would expect in Dubai or Malibu drive.

Strongly recommended provided:

-You have a hire car at your disposal.

-You appreciate having a beautifully equipped pied à terre to explore the Algarve.

-You can live without wifi in your flat (it is available in the reception).

-You don’t want crowds. this place is a five minute drive from the marina which is the hub of town.

-You’re nuts about golf. These serviced apartments straddle a gorgeous golf course that has held multiple global tournaments.

-You’re not a party animal. This place is catered to sober couples and well-heeled families.
