We chose Braganco Mar for our last meal in Vilamoura after reading it was ranked the 2nd top restaurant on Trip Advisor and due to it's close proximity to the marina. We were very excited and had high expectations of experiencing some authentic Portuguese cuisine, which we felt the restaurants on the Marina front lacked. The head waiter was very friendly and accomodating and the restaurant packed out, all were good signs. A little starter of bread, olives and garlic carrots was brought to the table which was delicious. A mouth watering range of specials was shown to us on the board so we decided to choose fillet steak on a hot stone and sirloin steak Portuguese style. We were so excited when the food came but unfortunately for us it fell slightly short of our expectations. The fillet steak on a hot stone was just three pieces of meat you cook yourself on a hot stone and some chipped potatoes. No sauce or veg just a couple of dips. Although the meat was lovely and it was fun to cook, we felt this wasn't really a dish as such. The sirloin steak faired slightly better, it came in a traditional dish cooked with potatoes, and a garlic and gravy sauce which was delicious. Unfortunately, it was bleeding in the middle when I had asked for it medium and I ended up cooking in on my fiancées hot stone which then made it a bit too tough to eat. When the desert trolley came it looked delicious, crammed with homemade cheesecakes, chocolate cakes and a lemon meringue pie which we chose. The consistency was perfect but unfortunately it lacked in flavour and needed a lemon zing which was missing. Service throughout was slow with only 3 waiters serving the entire restaurant. Although we didn't have a ten out of ten experience here, it was clear that it was a popular restaurant with delicious home cooked food, and if we had chosen differently we may have had a better experience here. It was also very reasonably priced with the whole meal plus a half bottle of wine totalling around 45 euros. We would definitely give this place a second chance next time we visit.
