“So near the Hurtigruten Dock and excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2012

We took the Hurtigruten from Tromso instead of driving to Lofoten as the weather forecast was terrible. We were so glad we did as the Hurtigruten was fun and the snow was DEEP when we arrived in Svolvaer. The Thon is literally just around the corner from the dock so we just drove into the underground car park, and we were there.

We were given a room with a great view but only a double bed. Now the beds are very small so we asked for a twin room. This was on a lower level with no view but we were much more comfortable, even the twin beds are very narrow!. The room was clean, warm with a lovely bathroom.

There was a blizzard outside so we could not get to our chosen restaurant. We had our evening meal at the hotel restaurant which is beautiful. The reindeer was delicious although we could only afford the one course, no wine. £35 each for the reindeer meal and a bottle of house red would have cost us £40.

Breakfast was fantastic, with freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs etc cooked to order and a huge display of meats, cheese, breads, cereal etc etc. It set us up for the drive to Reine which was a challenge in that snow and ice.

This is a lovely new hotel with excellent staff and the restaurant is well worth a visit wherever you stay.

Room Tip: If you can manage with a small double the top floor rooms have a fantastic view.

We spent a few nights at Thon Hotel Lofoten and enjoyed it alot. When we arrived I was surprised to se that our room had no bathroom, I mean, it had a shower room with a toilet in it, and the rest og the bathroom faciities were placed in the room, strange...but the way the staff handled it when we told them we were not happy with the room, makes it easy to rate this hotel excellent! We got a new nice room with a great wiew :-) The food was fantastic, and I will have to talk with the chef to get the recipe to make this fantastic lamb we ate at the banquette, the best I ever tasted!!! This is the perfect place to stay if you go to Lofoten. Lofoten itselv is extraordinary ! Im sure I will be back :-) Enjoy :-)

We arrived late, tired, in the middle of a blizzard and couldn't find the entrance to the hotel as all was blanked with thick snow. Not a great start!
However the friendliness and efficiency of the reception staff, the neatness and warmth of the room and the strong hot shower restored us to the human race and got us ready for dinner.
The snow was still falling thick and fast so we 'had' to stay in the hotel and eat in the restaurant just off the main hall. That turned out to be an excellent, if involuntary and rather expensive, experience.
I think hotel and restaurant are, probably, the best one can get in the Lofoten Islands.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view.

My first time in this hotel, but I will absolutely come back, for sure! Nice and polite personell, top service all over! Breakfast and dinner were both outstanding, with a large number of local Lofoten food. The bed was first class and my view was to the harbor and the Hurtigruta quay. Exotic!

Stayed on this hotel between 01. dec. - 02. dec. 2011. Nice, clean hotel with good standard. Trendy style and above average serviceminded personell. Unfortunately, the dinner and wine did not take me to the peak :-( but the breakfast did :-)The absolutely best hotel in Lofoten, no doubt!

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean view is fantastic.

Hotel is very fancy with excellent staff, great buffet, and good location. The room is very big but lacks a cupboard for clothes and a coffee machine/water heater. For those who prefer water for water hygiene; like most bathrooms in Norway, only toilet paper is there. There is no bath tube for the shower- only an inclined floor to stop the water from spreading. Good view. When we were in svolvær in september, there were not many tours; the place was mainly for conferences.

Great hotel right by the sea. The view from the room is by far the best view I've seen from a hotel room. Nice touch to put a pair of binoculars in every room.

The hotel breakfast was excellent, probably one of the best hotel breakfasts you can get in the whole of Norway.

Clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. Overall a great stay in Svolvær.
