On my recent trip to Europe I spend two nights in Amsterdam and decided to stay at the Ibis Hotel near the airport. I also reserved a room on my way back since my plane from Kiev would arrive too late for my connections. They offered free shuttle service to and fro the airport and train connections into the city center were very convenient. The check in was very easy and fast since I had prepaid my room charge. Lobby is fairly spacious although somewhat sparse. I took the escalator to the third floor, where my room was located. I realized that the hotel is laid out in a large "X" pattern with the rooms along very long corridors. My room was at the very end of one of these corridors. This is a bare-bones hotel. The layout (both inside and out) reminded me of military barracks. The walls are painted a dull neutral-white color that adds to the sterility of the environment. The room itself was fairly small, consisting of a bed, a built-in desk under the window, a small open closet and a very modular-looking bathroom. Everything was done in a bland pre-fabricated furniture look. The bathroom was quite tiny and you had to step up into it. It was very utilitarian. The bed itself was quite comfortable with white linens and a nice, warm comforter. This is a great room for simply spending the night but for any lengthy stay it would be totally inadequate. My only comparison of this hotel would be a Motel 6 or Super 8 hotel in the States. Going from the airport to the hotel took about 15 minutes. I was surprised when a huge bus pulled up and loaded the 4 or 5 people waiting for it. I soon realized, however, why they used such a large bus! On almost every subsequent trip to or from the airport, the bus was jammed full of people and baggage. You had to almost fight your way onto the bus, whether at the hotel or at the airport. The only nice thing about riding this bus is that there is a GPS-based monitor above to show the route the bus was taking and the approximate arrival times. If you are looking for a decent, clean place to stay for a single night in order to catch a plane, this is an ideal hotel.
