“Idyllic Italian Riviera!”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Everyone was friendly and considerate except for a rather "stiff" woman who "greeted" us at the front desk. After a long day driving the last thing we needed was a "grumpy" front desk person. Getting past her everything else was wonderful. We would stay there again and again if ever given the chance!

We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Cenobio Dei Dogi in a beautiful room overlooking the pool with the ocean behind. Our 21 year-old daughter was traveling with us and they provided an extra bed in the room. Camogli is an amazingly scenic town with a beautiful harbor and great restaurants -- with fewer tourists than nearby Portofino. The finest restaurant in town was the main dining room in Hotel Cenobio Dei Dogi. we saved it for our last night where we had stuuning views from our table and the best food of our trip,

Room Tip: If you like the sound of the surf, the ocean-side rooms are recommended.

We didnt stay here, but our group came over by boat for dinner in the restaurant. And what a dinner. Four fantastic courses including mozzarella with peeled tomatoes, and thick slices of turkey. Wines were served continually, but what makes this place is the view. Panoramic windows on 3 walls with stunning views over the village at sunset. Take a camera. Excellent service and food to die for. Can't wait to return!

As one recent reviewer wrote forget Portofino and stay at this hotel in Camogli. The location is hard to fault with fantastic views over the charming fishing village which is Camogli on the Italian Riveria between Genoa and Portofino. We spent three nights here and enjoyed every aspect of our visit.

The hotel is family owned and it shows with great service and value for money. Try the bar overlooking the garden for drinks and enough snacks including some hot finger food that will suffice for dinner if you leave it late enough. The breakfast was above average with a full range of hot and cold food included in the price and we had an excellent dinner in the restaurant as well with views over Camogli. Not being summer we did not have the opportunity to try the pool or beach but the layout and setting was typical summer setting for Italy.

The hotel has free car parking and the front desk people can recommend places to visit. The railway station is close if you want to visit Genoa (nice day trip with some good shopping) and the aquarium. If you want to visit Cinque Terra you can also catch the train from Camogli about a 60 or 90 minute trip depending on connections. Most of the seaside walking tracks at Cinque Terra were closed when we visited and have been for some time so check before you go as the five villages are ok for a visit but full of escorted tours and crowded even for may.

The rooms at the hotel were small and did get hot at night as the air conditioning was not turned on during our visit. We do recommend the sea view rooms even if they are a bit more expensive and in our view the hotel just falls short of a 5 star rating. Overall a very enjoyable stay in a delightful Italian hotel with old world charm and reasonable value for money.

Room Tip: Try a standard sea view room and enjoy the view and the sea breezes.

Forget Portofino: Camogli is the real place to be, and there is no where better to stay than the Cenobio Dei Dogi. We had a standard sea view double and felt a little cramped - but the view was stunning. The staff were helpful and the breakfast excellent - cannot wait to go back.
But these days it should not be necessary to wander all over a hotel to find a spot to get good wifi reception, even when on holiday!
We asked to see inside the chapel but understood it was closed to visitors while in use for storage. Pity: looked interesting in the picture on the website!

Room Tip: Sea view, with balcony if you can afford it.

We stayed here for our mini-honeymoon after our destination wedding in Italy. This was a true 4 star European hotel. Some of the perks included the close but quiet location of the hotel at the end of the Camogli promenade and a private beach and pool.
FACILITY/ROOMS: We arrived via car, the valet parking took our car (no cost to park). The front desk service was very nice and got us checked into our room very quickly. The hotel is definitely older but still with the Italian charm. We made it to our room. We had the standard sea view room, which was small but functional. The safe in the room was old, built into the wall with a key. The bed was only queen size. There was a musty smell to entire hotel which could have been from the sea. Our window and shutter shades opened widely to a beautiful view of the Camogli promenade and sea (also to the hotels pool). The bathroom again small but functional with plenty of toiletries provided (shower gel, lotion, shampoo). The front desk had plenty of umbrellas to use when it rained. The pool area was nice but somewhat limited in the number of chairs. We did spend some time on the beach where there was lots of chairs (we were just not used to the rocky beach.)
FOOD: We slept in the first morning a miss breakfast, we did have breakfast the second morning (which was included in the price). It was a traditional European continental breakfast. The selections were just ok, but there was a lot to choose from. The view was great overlooking the sea. (We had just wished there was outdoor seating to enjoy the great view). We did have dinner at one of the restaurants out on the terrace overlooking the sea. The food was FANTASTIC and the wine list with some incredible finds.
BOTTOM LINE: Camogli is a WONDERFUL Lugorian seaside town! As my husband and are always looking for the best “bang for the buck” this is it! When comparing to Portofino (which we did visit but did not stay) we found Camogli to have so much more charm, very affordable, and the food wonderful. And the hotel is THE PLACE to stay in Camogli (perfectly located, great price and overall great stay).
