We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay completely. The hotel was modern but did not look out of place. The staff were amazing and on aour arrival we were upgraded. Wow, What a spectaculor view over the lake!!! One of the best views I have ever seen.... Yes the hotel is high up above the towwn but once you see the view you will love it.

We ate in the restaurant which was very good and breakfast was very good as well with hot food as well as the normal european stuff. We also ate at a small restaurant just across the road called Restaurant Tovo.. Wow the food was awesome and the price reasonable. You must tryy it!!

I would diffenatly recommend this hotel not just for the view but for the great staff and comfort you will receive.

Our room was in the orchidea villa which meant having to negotiate 2 flights of external stairs and cross a courtyard to reach dining area. O.K. by day but not in the evening in the rain. The food was good but only one working coffee/tea machine caused long wait in the mornings. no good trying to make your own in the room as milk was usually sour and only one sachet of coffee per room each day.The staff in the music bar were both idle and rude, One evening a lady knocked over a pint of beer at next table. Despite repeated requests the broken glass and beer were not cleaned up for over 90 minutes.
The carpet in our room was dirty and stained and a trip from bed to the dressing table resulted in the soles of our feet being black. There is a bus to town but only once per hour meaning it is usually not capable of carrying all the waiting people and those least able are the ones unable to board.

We just spent 2 weeks here in September. The hotel is set further up the hill than the main resort hotels so had fabulous views across the lake from almost anywhere in the hotel. We found the rooms basic but clean, comfy beds and good shower (just what you need from a hotel room) - we had a shared balcony over looking the lake.

The hotel is set in several different buildings as it is on the side of the hill - the good side of this means most (if not all) have great views over the lake. However, we stayed in the Villa Cristina part (room 25) and the only downside is that it is very close to the carpark which makes it a little echoey.

The buffet always had a great choice, variety of food both at breakfast and dinner. I wouldn't recommend the vending machine wine at dinner - but like others have said that's a matter of taste.

Even on the cloudy and rainy days we did find lots of things to do. The ferries to other towns on the lake are regular and don't take too long considering how LONG it takes by road. Like some others have said expect long journey times and early starts for the excursions as Limone is the first pick you around the lake. We went to Venice and Florence both were well worth the long trek.

However, our resort rep didn't seem to be very experienced about things that weren't on their excursion list. We asked about hiring bikes and finding the canal at the north of the lake - she wasn't very sure about hire and sent us to the wrong town - So learn from our mistake and do your own research before you go!

Definitely not to miss day out is cable car from Malcesine - don't be freaked by a bit of a long queue it was quite fast moving when we went (despite getting there a bit later in the morning)

Very relaxing and due to the various sun decks and pools it didn't feel crowded when you sitting on the loungers (plenty of these and brollies). I also agree with others if you have mobility problems then this is probably not the best hotel to go to due to the steep hill and steps. It is only a short work to the beach and centre of Limone. The north of the lake is excellent for cycling and all sorts of watersports

Basically the resort and the hotel are great if you want a relaxing sunlounger holiday or an action packed activity holiday. Overall, we would definitely go back to both the resort and the hotel.

Stayed at the Cristina in Limone sul Garda for one week at the beginning of September. Had room 15, basic but clean and perfunctory. Nice view from the balcony, howevere this was a shared balcony with 2 other rooms, not ideal as couldnt leave door open when others are on balcony as they could hear (and see) everything!! Not too much of a problem, as we only used the room as a base, could be annoying if you spent more time in the room. Food as described in previous reviews, plentiful and decent quality, bar the wine from the machine which was like battery acid (matter of taste I guess)!

Location is scenic this means hilly! As aforementioned, don't chose this hotel if you have mobility issues as lots of steps and steep slopes. But, thats how you get the good views, being high up.

If you plan on making excursions be warned: Limone is far north of lake and so if you are going somewhere south of the lake (i.e. Milan, Venice etc) you will probably be the first pickup of passengers and then have to tour all the way round the lake to pick up all the other resorts! This took 1.5 hours on the trip to Milan, before we even got on the main road - insist on a comfort (toilet) break if you need it! This is not a reflection of Thomson/First Choice/tour operators as they use local companies for the excursions and it's just because Limone is so far from the other resorts. We booked one excursion from an independent company and it was the same process.

Milan is a full day, Verona is fabulous and well worth the guided tour, and the Dolomites were fantastic and better than expected. Hint: don't be put off going to the Dolomites if the weather is cloudy in Limone, the FC rep told some people not to go for this reason, but we went and it was warm and sunny the whole day in the Dolomites, despite clouds and rain in Limone!! She had advised them to do something else, and then admitted she'd never been there herself!

Quiet in the evenings, no nightlife as such, definately a resort for relaxtion. Ferries only go a few times in the morning and a few times back in the afternoon. The high speed boat from Limone to Sirmione takes 2 hours, and the regular Navigarda ferry takes 3.5 hours!!

Overall a lovely hotel and place, but probably won't return, as the weather was changeable in the north end of the lake, but seemed more reliable in the flatter warmer south end. Bardolino might be my next stop on the Lake Garda!!

We spent a week at the Cristina. The hotel is spread over several levels as it is on a steep hillside. The food was good, the usual buffet system. I am allergic to wheat/gluten so travelling can be a nightmare. I emailed the hotel in advance and they said they would not supply bread but when I got there they got special bread and biscuits in for me and cooked me my own pasta dish every night. This was a lovely change to the usual experience of simply being told all the things you can't eat.
There are lots of buildings and terraces on different levels in lovely gardens so it never felt crowded and there were plenty of sunbeds near the pools. The staff were friendly and the views over the lake incredible. The downside is the walk from the centre to the hotel which took 20 minutes on steep roads including some steps. There is a bus every hour to and from the hotel at a small charge but it did not run after 6.30pm. You don't need a car as you can visit all the other towns on the ferries so it is a good choice if you like boats.

Our experience of this hotel pretty much endorses that of other's; i.e. the views from our rooms were stunning, the rooms clean and generally well maintained, and yes there are lots of steps. The food choices very good, and one could eat healthily (if we chose to!) with the provision of unlimited tea/coffee/fruit teas with Breakfast and free wine and soft drinks with our Dinner, as well as afternoon tea/coffee with cake and biscuits as we had a half board package.
In addition we saw the open balcony arrangement as a bonus (whilst someone else has seen that as a negative) since we were two friends with adjoining rooms and this gave us the opportunity to sit outside our rooms, enjoying the amazing views of the Lake and Mountains, whilst not being impeded by sectioned off balconies, but that aspect is clearly dependant on your circumstances and expectations, and indeed the room that you are allocated.
As with the couple from Glasgow, we were the recipients of disappointing transfer arrangements and incorrect information regarding trips/excursions available, but as that is not down to the hotel but Crystal Holiday's, we have taken that up with them and no reflection on the hotel itself, but mention it merely so anyone travelling with Crystal/Thomson is aware.
Our only criticism of the hotel is that they do not seem to answer incoming calls, which was frustrating, since whilst there my partner from England was trying to call me and could get no response despite trying on several occasions, which resulted in expensive calls on my mobile.
Overall we were impressed with the location, hotel facilities, food offering, and value for money etc. to the degree that we are planning to return again next year!

Great hotel and resort experience, but really poor Thomson service experience.

As first-timers in Italy we would give the Hotel Christina really top marks for cleanliness, for professional and attentive (young!) staff and location (and spectacular lake views if, big if, you get the right rooms).

We would give fairly good marks for the food (we went half-board). It was not top quality cordon blue, but it was very acceptable and good value for the price. The help-yourself rule was genuine (including the wine and excellent coffee) – we couldn’t identify anything that made us think ‘ah that’s how they keep the cost down’. The desserts selection is so tempting it’s just awful – so good and tempting that you put the pounds on. Some parts of the hotel are getting dated and need upgrading, but our room was very good. An odd thing was that the bar advertised as ‘lively’ was generally quiet and without so-called entertainment (just as we liked it), but the bar is the adjoining and shared complex would have been to the taste of those who wanted more noise and music.

The mix of guests was definitely to the 30s plus. But the hotel seemed family friendly so far as we could see. Lots of Germans that we found knew how to dress and behalf casual but acceptable in the dinning room and poolside bar – if only many Brits had the same level of consideration and self-respect.

Negative points we would give are for the lack of effective air-conditioning in the dinning room – it could get really hot and humid at times and we saw several guests asking for windows to be opened etc. Also, as with many Mediterranean countries, some of the public areas around the hotel, can be surprisingly risk-laden i.e. pretty rough and jaggy steps and retaining walls with varied lighting. It is most definitely not a hotel (or perhaps even a resort?) for those with mobility problems. The hotel has lots a steps and steep drives whilst the resort has lots of hilly streets.

The courier bus to the resort centre (and the pedestrian lane shortcuts) are a life saver, but make sure the (freindly) driver understands you are entitled to free travel.

Limone is a really pleasant and easy-going lakeside resort, but not for the clubbing set. We were pleasantly surprised by the lakeside publci beach.

We were very disappointed about the ferries that everyone told us we would be endlessly hopping on and off. We found them to be expensive, not very frequent and to be complicated and time-consuming to make you way around the lake in. This is maybe especially true of Limone because it is situated way up in the more remote north end of the lake,

On the awful Thomson experience, it started after arrival at the airport. The connecting coach started warm and just got hotter, and hotter – and hotter. The air-conditioning was not working, despite the initial assurances from the courier that it was. Several passengers with the external temperatures of 30 degrees plus were really suffering with some evident distress. We passed two serious traffic accidents on the busy motorway, then the not very friendly driver decided to recurrently chat with his pals on the mobile whilst driving.

Later at the hotel we booked on a couple of Thomson local tours and found the information given to us at the welcome reception and booking was inconsistent and in the end downright wrong.

For example when we specially asked, we were assured that the coach would pick us up and set us down at the hotel. But we later found out from another guest that the pick-up and setting-down was in fact a good ten or more minutes walk away in a hilly locality – not much fun when you miss breakfast and your catching a coach at 8 o’clock in the morning. Worse was to come when we did the (expensive) day trip to Venice. We were told the journey would be three hours but it turned into almost four and a half hours there and the same on return. One reason was that we spent almost an hour on each journey picking up guests from other hotels and resorts before we started the journey proper to Venice.

If it had not been for the exceptionally helpful staff at Hotel Christina we would have missed dinner as we got back so late and well over half an hour after the end of servings. (and meantime we had had the embarrassment of the other coach passengers being told that on the return journey there would be no comfort break on the long journey back – so that we would get back for dinner at out hotel!)

Score; Hotel Christina 8 out of ten, Thomson 2 out of ten.

One other point; be prepared for delays at the airport (Verona anyway). Initially we felt Thomson had let us down again by delivering us homeward bound to the airport far too early. But in fact we spent an hour in the checking-in queu; seems that airport systems are commonly now having problems with the new regulations on documentation being presented and checked individually for members of families or large groups.
