“3 days weren't long enough!”
Reviewed July 11, 2011

I've visited Limone twice before staying at the Panorama's sister hotels, Le Palme and Splendid Palace, so when I had the chance of a 3 night stay at the Panorama I decided to give it a go. By choice I suppose I wouldn't really want a hotel so far out from the resort but as it was only 3 nights and I just wanted to lounge by the pool all day I decided it would be fine.

On arrival at the hotel check-in was very quick, all the information is in your room so it was basically just a case of getting the room key. I was surprised, however, at how busy the pool area was and the amount of children around which I have to say was the only disappointing thing about the holiday. This is my 7th trip to Lake Garda, always before or after the school holidays, and there have never been many children, if any, in the hotels. They're obviously all at the Panorama! As you can guess I don't really do children and unfortunately these ones were very vocal. Nonetheless the weather was glorious for the 3 days and I spent all my days by the pool, which is lovely and never got that busy that you couldn't have a good swim if you wanted.

I had a single room on the 5th (lowest) floor which was comfortable enough with a small bathroom. I didn't have any problems with noise through the walls or ants in the room as other guests have described.

Having previously been to a Golden hotel in Spain where the choice of food is exceptional, I felt there wasn't a lot of choice here at the Panorama, but what there was was quite nice. I liked the fact that they had several different pastas for you to try. The desserts were very nice too!! And of course the free drinks with evening meal is a very good saving and nice Rose wine :-)

The Manager of the hotel I recognised as he had previously worked at the Splendid Palace when I was there 4 years ago; nice to see a "hands on" Manager for a change who is very accommodating, as were all the staff. I found the hotel had a very laid back, helpful and friendly attitude towards everything.

The hotel offer the use of a laptop in reception for 50 cents for half an hour which is exceptional value for money. In Spain the going rate is 1 euro for 5 minutes!!

Of course the views from the hotel are fantastic and you could never get sick of them. For me this was a lovely relaxing break and certainly 3 nights wasn't long enough. I would like to think that at some point I will return for longer!

Very mixed bag of reviews here but after staying there for a week I think it was great. It has amazing views over the lake and a wide selection of food at breakfast and dinner. It is more like a carvery which has been pointed out already but what's wrong with that? Decor is a bit old fashioned but why quibble about the interior when you have the lake and monter baldo to look at. Fridge in the room, fantastic air con and great maid service made it very enjoyable. The indoor and outdoor pools were very pleasant and the hot tub was great to relax in. The walk into town was just over a mile so not a backbreaker and well worth the trip with a free courtesy bus if you want.
The staff were very helpful and on the days we went to Verona and Venice we were porovided with very large packed lunches.

A great relaxing place to stay and I wouldn't have second thoughts about going back.

Room Tip: Floors numbered downwards so the lower the number the better the view!

Decor was dated, naff plastic plants in reception, not a good first impression. Room was large but bed rock hard and the smallest shower cubicle I have ever seen. Not true of all rooms according to other guests. Buffet meals supposedly but all hot items were dished out by a member of staff, just one doing 3/4 pastas, 3/4 meats and 3/4 vegetables, who got irrate if you tried to help yourself. Food not very good anyway. Long walk into Limone but mini bus service provided free of charge. Walk was pleasant except you had to cross busy fast road twice to get to the footpath. Would not want to do this with children or if you had mobility problems. Shame about the above as the staff we met were lovely and the service was excellent. Would definitely give the staff 4 stars but not the hotel.

Our 4th visit to the Panorama. The hotel just gets better each time. Same room as last year, since when it has been redecorated and refurnished with inclusion of a fridge - most useful. The rooms and public spaces are spotlessly clean. Staff, (most of whom were there last year) cannot do enough to help. Menu has been extended to appeal to an even greater degree to British tastes (just lacks British sausage for breakfast!) Met a number of guests who are repeat visitors (in one case 24 visits!) and are very much looking forward to our next visit. Tip - Walk to the village, but think twice before walking back. If the courtesy coach is full for return trip, the driver will always come back for you.

Room Tip: Rooms above tennis court have great views.

Had reservations about the hotel as some unfavourable comments in previous reviews, we really wanted the Splendid Palace as this came top on Trip Advisor but it wasnt available for our dates. Let me just say we had a look round the Splendid Palace while we were there and the Panorama is soooo much nicer! Obviously everyone has mentioned the views from the Panorama and they surely must be the best in Limone, no need to be paying extra for lake views or worrying if your room will be looking out onto a back street, all the rooms have wonderful lake views. Also the reception, bar and restaurant are bright and comfortable with nicely co-ordinated furnishings, cannot think why these areas would need refurb as we are quite fussy and found it charming, also loved the glass lift. Our room was a family room and therefore more spacious than a twin, if you book a single room they are all on level 5 so you will not be on the same floor if you book a twin and single. We enjoyed the walk into Limone, very pretty town, some reviewers felt hotel too far out but you know this when you book it. Food very good but strange custom of using small side plates for hot breakfast. If you want to take home a present for a child there is a lovely little toy shop at Verona Airport filled with the quircky little things they love for a few euros.

First the good bits
- great view
- lovely staff
- value for money in terms of drink prices and drinks are free in the restaurant

but unfortunately there are loads of bad bits of the hotel to mention
- my room had lots of ants in the carpet (room 510)
- overall the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment
- buffet style dinner was of poor quality it was either cold or cold and salty, one evening there was turkey curry on offer that is not the type of cuisine i had in mind when going to italy
- lunch in the bar / pool area was of poor quality
- quite a walk from the hotel town
- high % of german guests in the hotel so it was mainly catered towards them

Basically i have stayed in 4* hotels before in italy and this was in my point of view nowhere near as good, would not go there again or recommend it to anyone
