An excellent hotel generally with minor imperfections. Let's deal with the positives.

A great location, situated on a cliffside overlooking the lake and five minutes walk from the ferry port and the shops, bars and restaurants in Limone. Be warned however, the walk back is steeply uphill on cobbles and includes a flight of steps into the hotel itself. It's not a hotel for you if your mobility is impaired.

Excellent food. All meals are buffet style with a huge choice. Free beer, wine or soft drinks is an added bonus, as is the Happy Hour where you get two drinks for the price of one.

All the staff are brilliant. Without exception they are very friendly and helpful. The room servicing is excellent, the rooms are spotless and clean linen is provided daily.

Now for the negatives.

Some of the rooms are a long way from reception, the bar and restaurant. There is great pressure on the lifts at busy times and no porterage is available for help with luggage which can be a trial when arriving and departing the hotel.

WiFi is available at a charge (10€ a week) but we were not told that it was only available in reception and the bar. The charge was halved when we complained but, do not expect WiFi access in the rooms.

Overall, we had a great time and, with the provisos given above we'd certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms in "La Pergola" (rooms 010 - 033) are lovely and have a fantastic view, but they...

Overall an excellent holiday.
Location has great views, in an authentic village, busy but not rowdy. Not great for those with mobility issues, but fine for most. Hotel is spread over 5 floors, pool at the bottom (L4) with the restaurant on the top (L0). Set into the mountain side the best views are at the top. Most have good lake views, but not all, so you pay to guarantee.
Very clean and to a good standard, initially looks a bit dated but that's just the style.
Staff very friendly, helpful and hardworking. Most speak good English.
66/33 split of guests - German/English. 30-50 age group, with a small number of kids. No teenagers or rowdy yobs, so peaceful and no hassle.
Nice pool in and outdoors, plus an additional 'secret garden' pool. Good number of sunbed and parasols, but still some feel the need to reserve. Free fitness room access, sauna is chargeable.
Food was excellent great variety and well cooked, for both breakfast and dinner. Buffet style with local beer, wine and soft drinks included free in the dinning room.
Prices at the bar are on the high side e.g.beer and spirits €4-6. Prices outside the hotels are simular.
Hotel entertainment each evening was patchy as with all places I've stayed at; nothing provided daytime.
Limone is the the longest transfer from the airport, 2 hrs+ by shared coach, although less by direct taxi. But the northern part of the lake is much more scenic, whilst the southern end is flatter and busier.
We experienced the Venice excursion which was very expensive, although a must if you've not been before. Other lakeside villages are easily accessible by a regular lake boat shuttle service. Monte B cable car ride and mountain top walk is a worthwhile experience in Malcesine. In Limone try walking/climbing to the very top of the river and waterfall trail, which starts at the small but clean rocky beach. Here you can also hire various watersport equipment.
Minor negatives are paying extra for WiFi, room safe and tourist tax. Not a big extra expense, so I feel adding it to the overall price is less annoying. Room A/C is poor, so I complained. It was fixed do just slept with the balcony door open, no real problem. Weather started changeable, but after Day2 it was great..
My wife and I went to lake Garda (Nago) 6 yrs ago and loved it. This time we took the kids (early 20s), and they seemed to enjoy a different holiday with no crowded beaches and noisy nightclubs.
Would we go back... Most certainly!

Just home after spending 7 wonderful nights at the Splendid Palace Hotel in Limone. The hotel itself is a bit dated but the friendly staff and excellent food certainly make up for it. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony looking out over the lake, the views were breathtaking! The hotel has 3 swimming pools, 1 indoor and 2 outdoor pools. The 2nd outdoor pool is in a little secret garden a couple of minutes walk from the hotel itself, quite small but really nice for a quick dip. There was entertainment most nights in the bar which was a nice surprise. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as long as you dont mind the old fashioned decor.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the second floor with balcony. The first floor can be a bit noisy as it is directl...

We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights mid June and loved every minute. The hotel has the most amazing views of the lake and mountains you could imagine, lake view room is a must! The staff are all efficient and friendly, the service was faultless. Special mention to Ania at reception for making our holiday extra special with her kindness.
Limone itself, we think is the prettiest of all the resorts round the lake, but enjoyed visiting the others very much. Garda is great place for lots of shops and has busy and buzzing lakeside bars and cafés, Bardolino has a lovely harbour and promenade, Riva is very quaint and has lots of mountains surrounding it and Malcesine is full of nice places to eat and drink and lots of interesting streets and shops as well as the castle.
As well as using the boats to get around, we went on 3 of the organised trips to Milan, Venice and The Dolomites. Milan was a bit disappointing, as it was not what we expected. The Sforza castle and the Duomo Cathedral were worth seeing, but the shops were nothing special. It was a long journey there and we got 4 hours to wander, lots more time on the coach than in Milan. The Venice by night trip was fab, again a long journey but well worth it, as we left the hotel at 8.45am and didn't return until 2am. We got 9 hours in Venice and was gorgeous to see it all lit up at night. Also the coaches used were very comfortable and all our tour guides were really good! The Dolomites was a good trip, they are the most magnificent sight, but again a long time on the coach. Definitely worth it if you are happy with long journeys and you get to stop in a place called Ortisei on the way back, which is a gorgeous Austrian themed town. If you go try the apple strudel there, best ever tasted!
The hotel food was a good choice, with meats, fish, vegetarian and pastas every evening. You get free drinks with your meal, however the wine wasn't good, the beer was fine and there was water and soft drinks too. Breakfast was nice, but never very hot. Waiting on staff very good and food was kept replenished.
The rooftop terrace was the most gorgeous place for a drink, which were very fairly priced, considering the location.
Have read in previous reviews about hotel decor being old fashioned. Completely disagree with this. The hotel decor was in keeping with the place, it was authentic italian style and we loved it much more than a modern hotel stuck in the middle of such a beautiful natural place. Also the beds were really comfortable with lovely pillows!
All in all a wonderful place to stay, would highly recommend it and can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Rooms on level 1 and 6 are by far the best for lake views.

We had a fantastic 2 weeks in Limone and the northern part of Lake Garda. It is very beautiful and there is so much to discover in the area. The little town of Limone is very picturesque and there are some lovely restaurants. The resort is quiet in the evenings but on Sundays throughout the session there is entertainment at the new harbour. Whilst we were there we saw a stunning fireworks display and a surprisingly good Beatles tribute act.
The hotel is in a superb location with view of Limone and Monte Baldo from our balcony. Like previous reviewers have said, the rooms on floors upper levels have the best views and are away from the pool.
We felt this hotel catered for the 'older' generation and probably suited them very well. Although we are in our late 40's we where probably the youngest British people there. We felt that the room was small, very basic and outdated. The decor was from the 1970's with carpets up the corridor walls! As the most popular hotel in Limone we thought it would be more modern. The shower was tiny and hairdryer useless. We couldn't pass each other in the room which was annoying when staying for 2 weeks. However the hotel was spotless and rooms were cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels.
The food was okay but we felt there was a lack of the 'Italian' flavour we were expecting. Mass catering is always difficult but we were disappointed with tinned vegetables (carrots and peas). Don't get us wrong it wasn't awful just a bit bland for our tastes. Breakfast was always the same, the eggs were lovely and so was the bread but again expected fresh fruit salad rather than tinned fruit. If you like roast meat, potatoes, gravy and vegetables you will be happy. We wished that we had been self-catering as the local restaurants and shops had lovely, fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
We found the staff wonderful, really helpful and cheerful from reception, hospitality, dining and bar staff. The staff all work very hard and deserve the highest praise.
This was our first visit to the Lake Garda area and we most definitely will return to this beautiful place.

I returned from this holiday yesterday afternoon, and have serious holiday blues.

I haven't seen the world much, Paris twice, Spain a few times, Portugal, Cyprus and this holiday............of all this was by far the greatest. I find it hard to believe that anyone could think the waiters ignorant, they were always very friendly and very good at their job. In fact so much better than English waiters, which do tend to be rude and ignorant.

The hotel, although the room was far from reception, was lovely and the views breath taking. I am not sure how to put it into words just how amazing it really was, I wish I was still sat on the balcony sipping on a cocktail. The rooms were spacious, although the bathroom tiny it had everything you needed. The rooms were cleaned daily and very well, even folding clothes that may have been left on the bed.

The waiters in the bar cannot be faulted, they are quick, very friendly and always go the extra mile to please you, not to mention they are always smiling and happy. We had a few conversations with a couple of them and they really seem to enjoy their jobs, which makes a difference.

We went on a couple of excursions, I would recommend Verone above all. Limone itself is lovely, we must have walked around atleast three times within the week. The small streets and old buildings make it a very picturesque village that I would love to return to. If you like ice cream I recommend the first parlour on the promenade as you come down the hill from the hotel, especially the cherry one.

Overall this was an amazing holiday and I am already condisering saving up to go there next year too

Room Tip: We had room 809, it was a little out of the way, but if you wanted to go to bed early it meant you c...

We decided on Splendid Palace on two points it's closeness to resort centre and good reviews. We were not disappointed. It was our Anniversary and my Hubby's Birthday whilst we were away early June and we could not have asked for a nicer place to celebrate.
Yes the Hotel is dated and could probably do with an overhaul but how long do you stay in room when there is an amazing view from balcony. Be warned on first visit it is a bit of a rabbit warren but this is part of the fun.
Our room was very comfy we like hard beds I needed another pillow and this was brought straight away. Plenty of wardrobe and storage space.
Lovely staff from Reception, Bar, restaurant and the really hard working cleaners.
Food wow what can I say what a feast, salad fresh each day, home made soup x 2, pasta x 3, roast meat or fish each night. Unlimited wine and beer I recommend Rose of the three. We won't mention pudding it's was too calorific in choice!
We tried to get to bar for Happy Hour each night when tall cocktails were two for one very nice. We also had bottle of fizz complimentary during our stay and another for our Anniversary with fruit.
But the best bit of this Hotel which makes it so special is the secret garden, accessed by key code it is old Lemon Grove converted with pool and loungers/umbrellas. We arrived each day around 4 to 4.30 after free tea by bar and enjoyed watching lake from cool refreshing pool. Wonderful if want to get away from buzz of main pool area.
Brilliant base for town and ferry. Would recommend but not for the infirm as there are quite a few steps and is on top of cliff with incline from centre of town to negotiate.
