Can't understand our travel guide saying this place is "middle class" and "spoilt".... A very pretty and unique walled village that is certainly worth a couple of hours visit.

Very nice little village sorraunded by walls, very typical, it 's certainly worth a visit. You can park the car below the village and inside there are two nice restaurant and a bar with a few little shop. The walls offer a beautiful view, but you have to pay to go around. You can spot Monteriggioni while visiting the country around, it is worth a visit because of its position ,near the "chiantishire" and S .Giminiano.

Situated between Siena & San Gimignano this is a lovely place to visit. There's a car park just outside the walls with a reasonable charge and its free to go inside Monteriggioni but there's a charge to go up on the walls which is essential to see the great views - although there is a gateway to the north where you can see out. There are places inside the walls to purchase local crafts & wines from & there's also a restaurant in the main square.

Monteriggioni is a special little place to visit for no more than half a day. Just of the highway, north of Sienna it makes a good stop over between places like San Gimigango and Sienna. The best view on approach is from the road from Colle Di Val D’elsa. There is a side road to the right as you approach where you can pull over for photos (like this one). Parking is 2 euros, but look out for a few free spaces immediately you enter the car park. There are a small number of chops, cafe/restaurants in town – and you can walk on the wall in two places for one ticket. Worth a couple of hours with lunch.

Monteriggioni tempts you from the motorway to come in and have a look. There is lots of parking which costs in the summer but is free in the winter. I bought a crunchy bread roll filled with local cheese and prosciutto, and a glass of local vino bianco and sat in the piazza in the winter sun. To enjoy the afternoon. There were few tourist because of the time of the year and it was a great way to spend the afternoon. There are small shops offering local crafts and produce. Enchanting!
